Repair nightmare

published

I have an IB 50 ac/dc fridge freezer, it is 6 years old and now the thermister (thermostat controller) is no longer working. I have contacted Evakool re the problem, and ordered a new one, but 6+ weeks later I am still waiting for the part with no eta of supply. Be very careful when buying Evakool as they do not seem to be able to supply parts for repairs to be carried out.

Purchased in October 2021 for $849.00.

Unbeatable service, great products.

First I got the fridge/freezer unit, and I'll add more once it's done a proper trip, but so far very good. Later ordered the travel cover and aux power supply. It's almost Christmas and still they managed such a fast delivery I cannot believe it. Customer service staff I spoke with on the phone couldn't have been better, friendly, efficient and made efforts to ensure I got exactly the right product for my need.

Ripped off

A load of junk. First one did not work properly so took it back. No refund but they did replace it with another evakkool which worked last Xmas. Needed it again this Xmas but would not get cold so now out of warranty.$750 to have it work only once. Evakool they call it, but if like me you buy one, you are an eva fool.

Purchased 60 lt it lasted approx. 6 weeks then stopped working, had it replace with another it only lasted about same distance in time. They work when your got them hooked up at home or driving on smooth bitumen, but the moment you start driving over rough bitumen or gravel roads ( and i still mean roads not rough off roading ), they fault and wont reset. And the warranty, evakool will admit that they're was a fault made when assembling your unit, but there is no claim back on goods lost ( persished ) due to the fridge not working correctly.
Cheap
Misleading infomation on what it could do and very poor warranty

Re "this fridge is a pile of junk". Has anyone got any ideas on how I can fix it myself? Need help please, don't want to spend any more money on it.

Have no real solution all I can suggest is to put some of those freeze packs they use in eskys in the unit, turn it to Max at night after the unit is reset and hopefully it chills everything down enough that night, because the next day when you start driving again the unit will probably stop working again.

I have cut the 12v wires leading into my EvaKool fridge freezer (70 litre Model FM70-FF ) To run it off my friend's solar system but now, on trying to reconnect on my 12v system I have lost the tape on one of the wires telling me which wire was positive, I don't want to blow up my fridge. As you plug it into the fridge what are the polarities of the left and right wires?

Dave, looks like it will be a 50/50 chance you will get it right. I might have some good news for you but don't take my word on it, the fridge should have reverse polarity detection built in.
