ActiveSmart E522BRXFDU (Stainless Steel, Right Door)

I took out and cleaned the evaporation tray at back. Disconnected water to replace flter, now after approx 4 hrs the fridge trips the power. If fridge is disconnected and then re-connected straight away-trips power again. If left overnight and switch on again in the morning will work fine for another 4 hrs-repeating same. Any suggestions?

Sorry Greg, I have no answer as yet. I have the same issue that has occurred to my E522B which keeps tripping the RCD. I have tested the heater element and it appears OK for the reading of this model (150 ohms). Did you end up finding the cause to your fault.

519L Bottom Mount E522BLXFDU5 (Stainless Steel, Left Door, Water & Ice)

I bought a Fisher and Paykel fridge August 2009. It is no longer working, the fluid has drained out through a crack that seems to be in the walls of the fridge because the repairman could not find it. He says it’s not worth repairing. Is less than 9 years normal duration for this fridge?

I can't answer the question as we bought the fridge after boxing day 2017 which is still new to us. Till today, it is operating really well. Well, we do hope our fridge can last longer than 9 years.

Fridges usually last 40 - 50 years, or untli something like this happens

We bought this Fridge recently and it didn't come with egg holders. We noticed from pictures of this model it has solid white plastic shelves on door but ours have a clear front section where the egg holders should be. Do F & P vary the configuration?.

Yes they do. Contact F&P spares and explain the anomoly.
They may be able to supply egg trays from a previous version.
Be polite and friendly, be surprised how it helps.

Hi, we havent had our fridge long enough to know if there is an annual filter change light, it should be done every 12 months though.

Thanks. It says to change it every 6 months; however we have only had it for four. Not sure if it's developed a fault or if the filter needs changing. Would be helpful if Fisher and Paykel responded to this question!

Does this fridge come with egg holder accessory and water filter as standard included in price for fridge?

2 answers
Scooba Steve
Scooba Steve

Yes, the egg holder and water filter (with the hoses and fittings up to the 15mm water supply) come standard. The thing I liked the most about the fridge design is the ice maker/ holder is in the freezer compartment itself which frees up the fridge space (other fridges have the ice maker in the door which takes up around a third of the room in the fridge).

Sue M

Yes it comes with an egg holder. Lots of door shelves to fit everything too from milk, juice, sauces etc. 2 dairy compartments above egg holder too.

I just brought this fridge second hand. Was working perfectly prior but since moving it and plugging it in it keeps tripping. Any advice on what to do before getting a technician out?

1 answer

If its tripping the power its because the fridge has a short. It would be worth checking that the evaporative drip tray around the back hasnt spilt water onto any wires or cords. If thats fine then something has moved during transit causing a dead short.

The ice cubes sticking together in one corner may be due to water leaking from the tube onto the ice cubes .

Hi Aidan, The only time i have had that problem is when i have drained the tank and the new water hasn't had a chance to cool properly

aidan.sheeko
aidan.sheeko

Thanks Y8Z. I actually called F&P customer service and here is what they say: the water from water dispenser is definitely not chilled but filtered. The water get cooled by fresh compartment - which means you have to drop temp inside fridge to get slightly colder than room temp.
This is for sure not what F&P advertise in thier site and manuals because they say clearly "chilled water". I am very disappointed and for any one to buy this fridge make sure that this is what you will get for your 400$ extra you pay for water dispenser plus another 400 or more for plumber to install it for you. Thanks

Has anyone had a problem with the ice maker, mine has stopped making ice for some reason?

1 answer
Y8Z
Y8Z

Yes I did, it ended up being the wire that controls the arm for the ice tray had broken. I ended up turning the fridge off and striping the wire back and reconnected it then put electrical tape over the exposed wire. Soldering would be better but I didn't have any. Worked for me however it would be smarter to pay for someone qualified to do it.

How do I set the. Temperature of the freezer an fridge?

1 answer
Zaklina
Zaklina

There is a button on the top right of the fridge, which has "Compartment". You touch it and it shows you the freezer or fridge (there will be a red light to show whether it's the fridge or the freezer) and you can then select the temperature by selecting the up and down arrows of the temperature.

It's probably not intuitive, but when you know how, it's really easy.

Hope that helps!

I am looking for a refidgerator with french doors on top and freezer in the bottom. I have to have stainless on the front and the sides. Does this fridge have that?

2 answers
Fisher & Paykel
Fisher&PaykelFisher & Paykel

no it doesnt, you should look at either the RF522ADX4 or the RF522ADUSX4

The ADUSX4 has a water dispensor in the door and ice maker in the freezer as well as soft close hinges.

These are the same size (790mm wide) as the E522 above, but if you want something bigger there are RF610 versions of the above prodcts which are 900mm wide

I agree. This fridge doesn't have french doors, but they do have a new version which does and is the same size. I would have bought it instead of this one if it was available a couple of years ago. Great fridge though - just a big noisy as fridges can be. The reason I would have went with the french doors is to minimise the space required when you open the door - with a full door you need more room than with a half door.

Hi Joe. It takes a few days to fill the ice bin but you can start to use the ice a few hours after you initiate the ice-making. You can turn off the ice-making whenever you like. The ice is easy to access and is just like normal ice cubes. Very handy feature. Good fridge.

ActiveSmart 519L Bottom Freezer (E522 FD Series)

I am thinking about purchasing the E522BRXFD3. It has a flat door with a rectangular handle (not that I really care about the shape of the door or the handle) but am greatly worried about alot of the reviews of the E522BRX fridges. It is a 510 litre. Has anyone got one and can tell me if it keeps the food cold enough? Also am concerned that it may be a bit noisy?(The model I am looking at is just the plain one with no ice maker only because we don't have the plumbing.) Thanks!

We've had the fridge for around a year now. No problems with keeping the food cold. As far as noise goes, yes it makes a noise but I can't say it's ever been an issue for us at all (and we have open plan kitchen/living room). I don't think it is particularly noisy and husband and kids have never even commented on it. If you are interested in the ice maker and water, you should talk to someone at the appliance store as you don't need a plumber. It is not difficult to do, especially if your fridge is sited near your sink. My husband did it in less than an hour. Having the filtered, cold water is great. Overall, I have found no reason not to recommend this fridge.

EMorrison
EMorrison

Hi Lynne, We got the ice maker/cold water dispenser model and had it plumbed in for around $700 as there was no water supply nearby, and we are very happy with it. The fridge runs quietly but there is occasional rumble/ crack noise due to the gas. it's not a problem. Food stays cold and we keep a thermometer in just to be sure.
