Washing Machines Buying Guide
Our buying guide will explain which type of washing machine would suit you most, how much you can expect to pay for one, and which features are worth looking out for.

Faulty Product
This machine has put holes in our tshirts since we started using it, wish I could add photos, had it checked for issues but it's a design fault apparently, the agitator is dragging the fabric & its pinching causing holes in the fabric. The more we wash our tshirts holes get worse
Purchased at Harvey Norman Retail Stores - Appliances.

This machine was a bad choice - and I'd love to have my 23yo Whirlpool back
I didn’t really NEED a new washing machine but my old Whirlpool 7kg was 23 years old and I thought it was about time to upgrade even though it still worked just fine. That was not an entirely silly decision but picking this machine was a bad choice. I didn’t like it much in the first few months after buying it but I thought that would change as I got used to it – but No, my opinion hasn’t changed at all. Because there was no urgency for this purchase I shopped around, decided what machine I thought would best suit me, read customer reviews o...Read more
n line etc etc, and waited for the after-Christmas sales. On paper this machine sounded good, especially the “Allergy” cycle with hot wash and two deep rinses, but thank heavens I didn’t pay full price because it’s not worth even the heavily discounted priced I did pay. It is used for normal domestic purposes for a single person household, but I bought the 7kg size because I have king sized bedlinen and huge bath towels but you can always do a small load in a bigger machine if necessary. The control and wash cycles are pretty good and easy to use, but the instructions to customise some aspects of the cycles seem very complicated. Even if clothes are old, well-worn and frequently washed this machine will often put lint all over a load of washing, people tell me that this is due to water levels too high or too low, but water level seems to make no difference – if it wants to put lint on your washing it does so anyway. It would also be nice if it had a flat lid that you could sit the laundry basket on instead of a sloping lid which deposits the basket on the floor if you don’t put a non-slip mat underneath it. The main reason I hate this machine is the so-called “feature” of rotating the washbowl while the bowl fills with water – which is supposed to get rid of air bubbles in the clothes, but in fact it does the complete opposite – apart from socks and knickers and other very small items! The other part of this “feature” is that the machine occasionally agitates the load while filling – this will get rid of air IN BETWEEN items but it won’t get rid of air which is trapped INSIDE items because the items are wet even though they are not fully immersed yet. The customer service centre told me that this is “hard-wired” in the machine’s programming and cannot be changed. I think this crazy idea must have been dreamt up by some fresh-faced University graduate who’s never actually done a load of washing and has no idea that when cloth gets wet it holds air. And because the bowl goes round while the machine is filling everything has already got wet and trapped air inside it before the water level gets over the top of items. So, to overcome this problem I have to fill the machine with water and then put each item in separately, carefully getting the air out as I do so. The machine also fills the clothes with air pockets during the various cycles so that when it fills with rinse water half the clothes are back up at the top and half-out of the water. For each rinse cycle I have to stop the machine, and go and push the clothing back down into the water because the agitation action of this machine only works in one dimension and does not move the clothes down through the water. I now hate doing the washing – because it’s a far more manual (and very irritating) process than with my ancient Whirlpool where all I had to do was put the load in, choose the water level and then come back 30 minutes or so later when it was all finished There are a couple of positives with this machine – it is very quiet, and the spin cycle is excellent but I’d like to send a message to my 23yo Whirlpool – “please come home – I miss you like crazy”.Similar opinion? Cheap Poor quality product
This is the second Fisher & Paykel Washing Machine we have purchased, the first one lasted 5 years and the second one has also just stopped working after 5 years. I spoke to customer service and told them that it was turning itself off and on during the rinse cycle and now it will not even turn on when you hit the power button. I assume it is something wrong with the motherboard electrics. Customer service advised it would cost $147 for a technician to come out and additional cost for any parts required. I was surprised at the high cost of ...Read more
having this looked at and will be purchasing another brand in future. Very disappointed with the response from Customer Service and that both machines only lasted 5 years. I had my previous washing machine for 18 years!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Had problems from the beginning
Although I’ve had this machine for over 5 years, it is still currently working but at the end of its life now.
The biggest issue I have with this machine which is absolutely pathetic is on a full load of something like towels or a blanket or just a full load of clothes, when it comes to the spinning cycle it sounds literally like a plane is taking of, so so loud and then the whole machine rocks to a point where it ends up half a meter away, my son used to get scared of it. I am just so shocked that anything could be made so poorly. Keeping i...Read more
n mind this happened right away and still happens till now. I have to take half the load out and finish the wash and then start again with the remaining. Or would have to readjust the load inside multiple times in order to untangle the clothes (ie. I never overfill my machine) Apart from this I have problems of the machine leaking, not really cleaning the clothes well, plastic wings inside have broken off over time, let’s out a smell despite the fact I machine clean it regularly and it is pretty loud. Right now it is basically dying, it is leaking everywhere even when it is turned off. I have to turn off the taps when not in use and as of yesterday have decided to stop using it until my new one comes in because it is starting to mold the wall behind it from the constant leaking.Similar opinion? great!
it washes and rinses the clothes beautifully
the clothes always look new it doesn't wear the clothes out
the sound is not as annoying as other dishwashers- super quiet
Had the machine for three years and I can't fault it at all.
maybe it can be upgraded to a larger size to fit in more clothes and have more storage.

heap of rubbish
Brought this washing machine about 2 years ago, died, no warning, blew the electricity circuit, a piece of rubbish, rang service department, useless, said it would cost $165 to come out plus extra, went on internet they said just replace washing machine as the mother board has blown. Never buy another Fisher&Paykel again.

We had Fisher & Paykel for 17 years so we bought another 7 kg WA70T60GW1, let's see how this one do
It is a Fisher & Paykel brand, good warranty, and the price, with smart wash, fully auto, not too big or too small easy to use, and very quite, not too expensive.. Last washing machine we had, was Fisher & Paykel, and lasted 17 years, so we decide to stick with the same brand, value for money.

Consol & decal packed up after 5 years.
It washes well but the consol and decal have fallen apart after 5 years. The machine is never moved and is used once a week by elder (but not stupid) people.
I've previously had problems with another F&P washing machine where the "chip" failed and it was replaced byb the above.
I'm very, very disappointed in Fisher & Paykel.
I bought it out of loyalty to buying from an ANZAC company but maybe I'm better off supporting the Germans or Italians as the ANZAC product isn't up to scratch.

Have had problems two years in but owned this machine previously without problems.
Purchased in Feb 2015. Two years later the machine refused to operate. Fortunately had purchased extended warranty. Waited two weeks for serviceman to repair it which was annoying. Has been going well since. Is quiet and does a great job. Fingers crossed. Purchased this machine as I had had a similar model prior and it had lasted many years and worked hard for me during its time. Hopefully there will be no further problems.

Disappointed to say the least.
We have had several Fisher & Paykel washing machines over the years and this one is the one that lasted the shortest amount of time. 4 years - i know to some this might seem a good run out of a washing machine but i at least expect things as expensive as whitegoods to last 5yrs+.

Shortest time we've owned a machine
It's only 2 or 2 years old. It did clean and spin clothes well. But noisy and shakes a lot on the rinse, had to redistribute load often. In the end It kept getting stuck on the rinse cycle and beeping. Had a repairman out 3 times, nothing worked so in the end we're throwing it out and looking for a new one

Quite and a happy face washing machine
Our fisher & paykel wash smart top loader, is the quietest washing machine we have had, it washes beautifully and through and the clothes come out not too tightly spun, but just soft and great, the clothes always look happy, which makes me happy too.
I just was with the normal wash, I have washed with the delicate cycle and that's great too.

Could have been a bit better
This is a great washing machine with the only complaint being absence of a lint filter. Initially the clothes were covered with lint. Then I purchased an additional lint filter for 60bucks from F&P website and it took 3 months to arrive as they had no spares in stock. The filter was easy to install and now its working great. Overall a great buy if someone is looking for a top load washing machine

You get what you pay for...
Washes OK, rinses OK, spins Ok, isn't that loud
But the agitator fins are of bad design, they're not solid and allow clothes (particularly straps) to get caught in them whilst pulling the clothes out.
And just after 2 years of use, the hot water inlet snapped off, rendering this machine 'cold wash only'. The part is $115 + GST + Postage & Handling, and I don't want to know how much a technician will charge to take the old part out, and put the new part in. Enough to persuade me I should just buy another machine, I would guess.

nd of nuts to have to replace a washing machine that is still working fine other than a little bit of plastic snapped off, but as I said, you get what you pay for. It seemed cheap at the time of purchase, and now I know why. Wish I could afford a better quality washing machine...Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Quiet, washes OK but is rough on clothes
This washer cleans & rinses the clothes quite well however I've found it rough on them, especially towels which can become tattered with pulled threads. The design of the agitator fins are poor (they are only half fins) & sometimes cause clothing to become caught up & tangled. Care removing clothes is advisable as the fins could break. Disappointing that there is no removable lint filter. Lint sometimes appears on washed clothes - best not to use fabric conditioner for this reason. The machine is quiet when operating & can be set to spin ver...Read more

Not quite what I thought so!
It has an option of soak and hold which drove me to buy it. We had a Simpson 4kg (Made in Australia) which started leaking after 25 years of service.
This 7kg is OK but wobbles a lot on full load. At times we need to stop and redistribute the load and restart it. This problem was not there with a 4 kg old rugged and reliable Simpson washing Machine.
Negative effects of globalisation.

Best Washing Machine yet
Washes thoroughly, rinses well, plenty of room, seems bigger than it actually is! Quiet machine, easy to use, kids can use it! Best machine I've had. Love Fisher & Paykel products but this is probably the best I've had. Won't be changing brands any time soon. May even have to look at other products.

Love it
Washes clothes brilliantly, . Previously used this model before. Doesn't wear out the clothes and is a very quiet machine. Rebalances itself if loaded incorrectly. I seriously wouldn't look at another machine as I wanted this one with the easy iron feature. Clothes come out wet but not dripping and are able to hang on the line to dry with little or no ironing required. Front panel is very user friendly and you have a great selection of washing options. Big bowl for washing blankets, etc.

Lots of research but made a good choice
A single bloke, so it copes with my erratic wash days! Quiet, smooth running, simple to operate, easy on clothes and economical on water, power and detergent. Rarely gives me imbalance problems but lots of safeguards anyway. Good brand and I got a good price when I bought it. I'd definitely look at F&P again in the future.

Hi, I have a Wash Smart 7kg washing machine (Model: WA70T60GW1) which has worked fine for some time however it now won't progress to the Rinse cycle. I have tried all the recommended fixes to no avail. I am continually getting three lights when it stops, the middle light on the wash cycle (light 3 of 5), the first light of the Rinse Cycle (from Left) and the Spin Cycle light (only one). Does anyone know what it means?
