Don't believe Fisher & Paykel's product description
The Fisher & Paykel website for this model says “SmartDrive technology for a quiet & reliable wash”. It is NOT quiet. About 2 minutes after the machine starts filling it bangs at 2 second intervals for about 1½ minutes. The same occurs on filling during the final rinse (the machine is level & no out of balance code appears). This occurs on EVERY wash even if a manual water level is chosen (the machine is just over 2 months old). Fisher & Paykel insist this is “normal operation - this knocking noise is the machine trying to sense the load size”...Read more
. In addition to the above, the machine is also noisy at some different stages of operation, including revving up very noticeably going into spin cycles (even if selecting a lower spin speed). I could not recommend this model and personally would be hesitant to choose any Fisher & Paykel product in the future if this model is an example.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Fine as long as you don’t want to wash any dark colours! Lint filter should NOT be optional extra.
We have just purchased a 8.5 kg Fisher and Paykel top loader washer and to say I was disappointed in how the dark colours came out is a gross understatement. Everything is covered in lint. When I googled whether this was a known problem or whether I was doing something wrong, I found that this is a KNOWN PROBLEM with Fisher and Paykel machines but they refuse to do anything about it. Having to shell out another $50 for a lint filter that actually works and is produced by F&P is a joke and an insult. Lift your game F&P! Put a lint filter in your machines that work! Until they put these lint filters in as standard - DONT BUY

Noisy, horrible quality - don't waste your money.
Fisher & Paykel quality has gone downhill with their 2018 range. Our new 8.5kg machine is noisy, cheaply made & the service department are a joke. The advice I got from their own service guy was to "buy another brand". Don't get me wrong, the old machines were really good, but these new models are cheaply made & very noisy. I would never buy Fisher & Paykel ever again.

Fisher & Paykel 8.5kg washing machine
Replacing our old F&P washing machine that we gave to one of the kids that just moved out - its 24 years old and still working. The new machine is great, we have tested over a couple of months now and I cant fault it.
Its quiet and easy to use, auto water level works great and spins at 1000RPM no worries.
You need to read the instructions as it has some clever safety features that locks the lid in certain parts of a cycle, but can be reopened to add things.
If you have an out of balance machine in a spin cycle - your loading it wrong or its...Read more

Love Fisher and Paykel quality
Replaced our old Fisher & Paykel top loader with this wash machine. We love Fisher & Paykel for its quality and reliability. This machine is quiet and looks smaller than an 8.5 kilo washer which is a plus for smaller laudries. The only con is that the wash cycle time is longer than the older models and you can’t fasten the cycle.

Running perfectly (so far)
I see a lot reviews here with various complaints about Fisher & Paykel bur our Washsmart has run like a clock so far. Ok its less than a year old, so I suppose that's quite young in the life of a whitegood but we have had a good experience and no faults at all. My one wishes are: 1/ the spin was a little faster as things come out fairly wet 2/ they used heavier grade metal because the overall machine feels light compared to the old days.
Lets see how long it lasts!

8.5KG NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE
I AM SO UNHAPPY WITH THIS NEW PURCHASE. I bought an 8.5kg toploader to wash doonas like my last washing machine however the bowl is half the size of my old Fisher and Paykel how can this be???? I will be lucky to get one queen sheet in this machine what a waste of money. I have a 5.5kg washing machine in the shed and this is bigger than the 8.5 DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT TOO EXPENSIVE FOR A REALLY SMALL WASHING MACHINE.

Complete Rubbish
If you set the wash temperature to warm, the rinse temperature is cold. You cannot change it.
If you set the water level, the washing machine stops while filling (apparently, to weigh your load even though you set the level yourself).
If you pause the wash cycle, just after filling with water, to put your dirty clothes in (to make sure that the detergent has dissolved first), the washing machine will empty itself after three minutes. You lose the water and detergent, incredibly stupid, wasteful and annoying.
If you pause the washing cycle, ...Read more

Perfect washing
Does great wash on every cycle. Clothes come out clean, doesn't stretch my clothes. It's very quite even on spin cycle. My favourite option is having a quick wash with a shorter soak time. Best machine I've ever had. Only thing is my machine does a spin cycle before water is even in it when you start from rinse cycle

Does its job
this washing machine sometimes can leave clothes stinky, it does not always rinse properly, clothes come out dirty often.
it does not wear out clothes.
it is fairly loud.
i enjoy that there is a good amount of selection with which type of wash to do, for each different material

Fisher & Paykel disaster
I purchased this machine in September 2016, after 10 untroubled years with my last F & P machine. I am disgusted with the machine. It leaves ugly lint marks all over my washing. I have read and followed all manufacturers directions and still it is happening. No more Fisher & Paykel for me

Very Happy!
Easy to use, quiet and washes very well. Had this machine for a month now & can not fault it at ALL! Great to have a count down timer and the 8.5kg unit is smartly compact. I strongly suggest reading the manual prior to start to ensure you are operating correctly as it gives you an insight into all its amazing features. So happy to have chosen it!

Washes OK but hopeless filter.
I have had this washer a few months and don't like it as well as my previous washer...a Westinghouse. The machine washes thoroughly....in fact a little too thoroughly at times, often leaving my clothes baggy looking. The normal cycle is around 47 minutes which is really good and the machine is quiet and chugs along well. Although fairly basic the washer does have all the must haves and it seems to be fairly robust. I absolutely loath the filter though, or lack thereof, utterly useless and leaves my clothes covered in fluff, fibres or just whatever is floating around. It's an OK washer but if you have a lot of black clothes forget it, you'll be forever on the end of a clothes brush removing fuzz..

A great machine for a family in every way.
Could not be happier. Finally a machine that does what it’s supposed to do, and then some. Firstly, washes great. Can soak if needed. Good range of programs, love the allergy cycle with two rinses. Spins really well, clothes come out semi dry. Can fit lots in. Great for whites and colours. Lint free. Noise level minimal. Overall a great machine in every way.

May as well get a front loader
I owned a previous fisher & paykel washing machine and it lasted 15 long years doing 1-4 loads a day. I wanted to get a similar model because of how great my old one was. However this one is no where near as good. It has a timer on the screen which shows you how long it has to go instead of telling you where its up to in the cycle. If I open the door during the first 15 minutes, the machine starts all over again and refills. Also if I open in the last 15 minutes it starts to spin dry from the beginning again. The lid locks as well so needs to b...Read more
e paused to open at all times. However luckily for me this function is faulty and I can open the lid sometimes which stops the machine restarting. The reason I bought a top loader was so I could add extra washing. This machine doesn't allow that unless you want it to start again. It also has a safety feature which drains the entire load of water if paused for longer than 3 seconds. I've also had issues with the detergent holder as it doesn't clip in properly and falls out. Luckily the one from my old machine fits and I use that instead.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Something we all need.
Just delivered this morning and already onto my third load. Its so quiet, keep checking to see if its still going! It has a super touch panel which is very sensitive and hardly needs touching at all. I'm over the moon happy. My last F/P lasted 17 years so if this one does as well I will have nothing to complain about.

Great washing machine
really effective washing machine at effectively cleaning clothes without too much noise. The drum is big enough to easily slot all the clothes in whilst rarely having issues with the tumbler not being stable. My favourite feature is the delicate wash, it really cleanse clothes without damaging them. The only downside is it is a little bit difficult to clean but outweighed by such great performance!

Does the job. Room for improvement.
Bought this after our Simpson died prematurely after 6 years. Read online some good reviews about the longevity of Fisher & Paykel, so thought will give it a try. Have no complaints about its cleaning ability - it cleans, rinses, and spins satisfactorily as I would expect. It is fine when it is working properly.
However, a few things to note. 1) I have had intermittent 'computer' issues with the machine, where it seems to resets itself randomly in the middle of soak cycle, so that a few hours later I come back and it is still soaking. I hav...Read more
en't called F&P because it is intermittent and random, so I can't reproduce the problem, and I can't sit there and watch it to see why it does that. 2) It's 'soak' function is set to 2 hours and cannot be changed. I don't like/need to soak my clothes for that long, but there is no option to change the soaking time. 3) It doesn't have a lint filter, as it filters the lint out of the machine into the drain. For some people this may be an issue. 4) Occasionally I hear a beep mid-cycle indicating an error, but by the time I get there the error code has gone. Definitely some room for improvement and fine-tuning.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

New washing machine - quiet, modern, economical
I have bought 2 washing machines in 40 years, but my new Fisher & Paykel is the smartest one ever. It is light, well balanced for large loads, quiet, and measures the water level based on the weight of the load. I find this feature particularly eco-friendly in the current conservation awareness. The electronic buttons are very practical and the combinations for different types of washes are terrific.

Does the job
Great washing machine. Clothes come out clean and undamaged. Quiet for the most part but can get loud towards end of cycle. I would of liked the quick wash feature to be 30mins or less however it is 37 minutes. Fits a good amount for 2 adults and a baby.

My WashSmart 8.5 top loader is not turning on.
It started when I decided to clean my washer. Turn off the machine, unscrew the agitator and clean the surface carefully. When finished, I switch on the power point and turn on the machine the usual way and did not turn on.
I followed the User guide for this problem but it is not working as well. Please any help? Thank you

Washer 4 years old smart wash keeps going off balance any reasons obviously the clothes are bundled up but never used to do this does it routinely neighbour has same washer same age and hers has started doing same thing????

Our F&P washing machine (WA8560G1) is now doing the same thing - now stops due to "out of balance" numerous times each load - I suspect the suspension rods may need replacing. Machine is not that old (out of warranty) and I would have thought the suspension rods should have lasted a little longer. With time off due to the current health crisis, I have some time to investigate and replace if necessary - replacement seems straight forward once new suspension rods are purchased.
It is problem apparently well known for it my neighbour got a technician and think he replaced 2 having same problem
