I have just purchased a2018 Focus sport with only 3200kms on the clock 2 days ago. Today i took it for about 1 hours drive today and every time I applied the brakes from about 70kms per hour i could hear a noise coming from either the tyres and or the brakes .Its a hard noise to explain, i suppose it sounds like the brakes are grating with no vibration felt .The noise can even be heard over the sound system. Can someone enlighten me of the problem if possible.

Hi Sorry have not ever had this problem. I run my tyres on 32, don't know if that makes a difference. But it begs the question how did you get a 2018 model with only 3200kms? I run my car mostly on 70/80/100 km speed limit roads and have never experienced this in 2 yrs.
Hi Andrew. I understand your situation, as I Once bought a second hand lemon Tarago ( usually reliable) for our growing family. Anyway, my Focus sedan (not a sport hatch like yours) hasn’t displayed your problem over the city or country (up to 110km/h) roads. If you’ve taken it off sealed roads you might have grit in your brakes, but this should disappear. Perhaps extreme braking at high speeds could bind this grit to the discs or pads? If the 3,200 km was extreme driving, the discs and/or brake pads could be worn already. Did you thoroughly check the history of this car before purchase? Could it have been rebuilt from wrecks at a chop shop? Has it had a front end crash, either front on or side on? Have suspension and brake components been built up using incorrect parts? Get your car checked by your RAC in your state (the usual pre-purchase test) if you didn’t do it pre-purchase, as it’s worth the money. Find a reliable front end specialist - it costs nothing for an inspection. A good Ford dealer like my local Etheridge Ford in Ringwood has mechanics that are experts (don’t be shy of a dealer, they know their cars) and could answer the above questions. I think this is actually the place to start, and could save you heaps of money. I hope you get this solved. I’m interested to hear the result.

I have a ford focus 2006, it was revving high and on it's own too, I had a scan put on it and it said throttle body so I purchased a new one and had it put on and hasn't solved anything it's still revving like crazy off n on by it's self ???

I'm definitely not a mechanic, but my Mark II Focus (2.0l) experienced all manner of shenanigans (extremely irregular idling, etc) due to a vacuum leak from a broken hose.
A leak after the throttle body would result in abnormally high idle, but the engine can also get very confused if the leak is after the sensor that measures air quantity. Trick will be to identify which hose is the culprit. If you're unlucky it's a hose behind the intake manifold. You might need a smoke machine...

I have a 2017 focus sport auto LZ
It's a standard torque converter gearbox. No issues what so ever. Previous models with the PowerShift transmission were a problem.
45000klms on the clock. No squeaks or rattles. It's just the same as I drove it off the lot.

I heard the Focus diesel had a wet clutch and did not have problems like the dry clutch model used for the petrol Fiestas and Focus's from the 2012-2014 era.

To be honest I would stay away from Ford especially the Focus regardless of what model or make....
Ford are useless and most unhelpful if you live in Australia they have zero care for the customer and take no responsibility for fixing anything they put the blame on the way you drive your car...
My car sits in a car bay only to collect dust it can't be driven at all
Like Trudy, my experience and talking to several highly experienced mechanics would have me steer well clear of any Ford Focus. Early Ford Focus models had some then state of the art electronics and become unfixable when they fail with age. 'Limp mode" problems abound. I previously owned several Australian built Ford Falcons which I found very reliable.
For second-hand reliability Toyota Corolla are a much better bet and Mazda is not far behind. Gumtree and FB Marketplace generally have some good value cars for sale.
After the Ford Focus debacle I bought a manual 2012 Toyota Corolla with 107k for $7,200 and it's fantastic.

Have been looking at the Ford Focus LW with manual transmission as I can see the autos have serious problems. Are there any other issues we should be aware of ? We were looking at them as a teenagers first car but now have concerns. Any info and feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

If you have issues. Ford will fix it. Lots of misunderstandings around this. Its only certain models. So ask for Vin from seller. Call the local Ford ask them. Local dealer is happy to fix because Head office Ford pays them.

Everyone on here is talking about issues with the gearbox and transmission in automatic ford focuses but what about the manual are there in any issues in them? Also is there anything I need to know about the Ford Focus LX LV
2 answers
Have not come across any issues! If you have the Mazda LF-DE engine in your Ford Focus you most likely will not have trans problems. If you have the seconds generation Focus with an engine ranging from the 1.8 to the 2.5 you will have the Mazda engine, anything smaller is a rehashed first generation Zetec renamed Duratec. As for auto transmissions only the first generation Focus had some trans problems which were addressed in the second generation and was also a Mazda transmission. So if you have the first generation Focus you may have problems on the horizon!
What's the difference between first and second generation Focus?

We have an lz titanium which was changed over due to our faulty lw with duel clutch problems. Our lz is using 10.6 LT per 100 llama. Andy suggestions why we are using so much fuel?
1 answer
Which octane are you using? While the lz will run on 91 octane, 95 or 98 might help. Worth a try. PK.
