Don't "upgrade" if you want other connections from the box
Having used IQ2 for many years, I was quite happy with it but was talked into IQ4 as it's free for 15 year Foxtel subscribers. Whilst I was assured there was no cost and no downside, I was disappointed to see that I now have no ability to keep videos on my computer or a DVD as there are no output connections as on IQ2. Also, I cannot play audio through my stereo system as there are no audio outputs except Digital Audio Out (Optical) which is not compatible with my stereo system. side might be and what I was going to lose. Also, without buying an antenna splitter, you cannot watch free to air TV without going through the Foxbox because there is no antenna out connection. So, to watch Free To Air TV, you must turn on Foxtel, and select the station on that. So you now have no ability to record on a PVR and keep that favourite show forever, or burn it to DVD. You can record it to the IQ4, but there it will stay - can't copy it for a friend. That said, I cannot see any advantages in IQ4. I Cannot Understand Negative Reviews
For 18 months I hesitated to upgrade from IQ 2 to IQ 4 because of the on-line negative reviews. But in the face of IQ 2 obsolescence and lack of variety in the older system, I decided to upgrade earlier this year. I have to say I now truly regret having not upgraded far earlier. The IQ 4 is excellent with far more choice and on-demand programming than in the older IQ boxes.. The remote control is easy to handle; the recording space vastly bigger than on earlier systems - and there are more channels to choose from; the picture quality is fine and the navigation is straightforward. I cannot understand all the negative reviews and all I can say is that I am a satisfied customer with IQ 4 a real compensation during the current COVID-19 crisis

Great Media Player
I had the iQ2 but upgrading to the iQ4 has been awesome. Love it! Beautiful interface, great picture quality and excellent remote. The little differences everywhere just make it that much extra special. Great job Foxtel.

IQ4 - Over Rated and Under Performing
I upgraded to IQ4 because our IQ2 HDD was starting to fail and since we would lose all our recorded material thought we may as well upgrade.
It does a fair job but fall well l short of the hype. In one of the blurbs of how good it was I saw the note "IQ4, the only Media centre you will need". Whilst it does give you access to Netflix, it does give you access to your own media server where you have your own media collection so i still have to change inputs on my TV and have it navigate tot he media server. lications like You Tube and Plex. I have my IQ4 plumbed in through my Hi Fi (as well as my TV) but when i stream video from else where eg You Tube I cant run it through my HiFi. As for the performance of the device, I think the things it tries to do are beyond the electronics in the box. I mostly stream the shows i want to watch (cut out the ads) and the IQ4 regularly freezes, usually halfway through a show. You then have to go to the end and then rewind back to the pint just after where the freeze occurred. And finally, periodically, all the advanced features just stop working. Cannot pause, cannot rewind etc etc. All you can do is pull the plug and reboot. And i hate the menuing system.Purchased in August 2021 at Foxtel for A$150.00.

i have a 4k projector with 110" screen. ive got HD enabled, that is the purpose of the iq4 box.
i often have to restart the foxel box, turning off power point and back on again.... but who cares.
the picture quality is awesome. i love the iq4 box

Love my iQ4
The picture quality is excellent, even the free to air channels are clearer than they were on my old Mystar box. The hard drive is huge and the menu layout is great. iQ4 is an excellent upgrade!

Useless technology!
Useless technology/freezes/reboots itself, remote control needs battery replacements every few days, if you have a IQ 2 don’t bother upgrading to this JUNK!!!! I’d love to go back to a IQ2 if I could!

Every 2 days, I need to reboot the foxtel unit as the Power button on the remote doesn't work. It's very frustrating and a waste of time . Anyone else's have the same issue ?

Does not do what it is supposed to!
Had an IQ2 for years, which was a seamless experience. Changed our Foxtel through Telstra Package, and have had 2 issues.
Initially we upgraded to the sports pack, but the stations would not come through-that required a reset by Foxtel. We got the Channels, but now we cannot record, pause, rewind etc. shows I have recorded come up as an error message. And the error message tells me I have an IQ3 (I have an IQ4)After an hour on the phone, apparently the box is the problem, and we have to wait until another is sent out.
This technology needs a serious rethink. Just hopeless

Don't upgrade if you can help it, keep your IQ2!
I changed my Foxtel package through Telstra and was forced to take an IQ4 box despites my protestations about a bad experience with IQ3, but Foxtel just ignored me (even though my Telstra shop reps tried). Hopeless at downloading programs. Cancelled my subscription within a day after almost 11 years and would have kept it if I had been allowed to keep my IQ2 which is proven technology.

Connection to Wireless Headphones.
I connected a new IQ4 box to our second TV in my study yesterday, and the Sennheiser Wireless Headphones would not work. After spending approx. 2 hours over two days talking to (so called) technical support; and being told that the headphones are the problem (over and over again).
I called into JB HiFi and spoke to a staff member, who said that he didn't have much to do with Foxtell - however he explained what 'could be the problem' and suggested a (possible) solution. I came home and tried it - worked first time. Full marks to JB HiFi at Capalaba, Brisbane - and ZERO to Foxtell Technical Support.

IQ 4 box won't start
This is the second recent IQ4 box I have had and the same problem has occurred with both of them. When trying to start foxtel using the power button on the remote nothing happens.
The only way to get it to work is to reboot the box.
This issue reoccurs every two or so days so is very fustrating.
Has any one else had the problem and is there a solution.

No issues with iQ4
Had issues with iQ3 box on receipt therefore Foxtel upgraded us to iQ4 and not had a single issue. Worth paying for HD, picture quality epgood. Find Foxtel pricing expensive but the iQ4 box has been great.

Was installed ahead of schedule and the customer service was outstanding.
We have used Foxtel everyday since getting it and it has never disappointed.

Rubbish
I have been a Foxtel subscriber for over 20 years, four weeks ago I was forced to upgrade to IQ4 because my new apartment only has satellite. The IQ4 has not worked since day one! I have to reboot four or five times before I can actually watch any recorded programs, the IQ4 states 'there is nothing here' when I go to watch my recorded shows, it then fails to record anything I have scheduled to record. IQ4 box is absolute rubbish.
Netflix connection only works once after a reboot - or not at all. Forced to watch Netflix through smart TV. Recordings either do not eventuate or appear multiple times. Those that do record require reboot before being able to be viewed. Telephone support non existent. With so many streaming services available at a reasonable price best option is to totally ditch FOXTEL after 10 years.

Biggest piece of garbage ever put out.
This product is useless. Everytime I turn on the t.v to watch, I have to reboot it, wake it up by unplugging HDMI, or turning the amp and/or t.v on off.

Nothing wrong with iQ4
We upgraded to an iQ4 - its just a software update. Plugged everything in and turned it on. And thats the end of it. We also have a Foxtel internet hub, and the only problems we have ever experienced have been when theres bad weather and we cant get satellite reception, or when the internet goes down.
We upgraded the operating system so we can get Netflix without switching back to the tv source.
Maybe were lucky or just have a good connection, but the only problem we have with Foxtel is that its a bit expensive.

IQ goes up, performance goes down
I have now been running IQ4 for some 4 months. My IQ3 was working perfectly when Foxtel contacted me and said as I was such a good customer (been with them from the beginning) they were rewarding us with an IQ4 for free.
Of course I jumped at the invitation.
Mistake! When it works it works "fairly" well. The new menu system is good and the new handset is great. However, it drops the internet connection regularly and it's NOT my modem or internet - that hasn't changed. I am forced to use the wifi connection and not the ethernet connection ...Read more
because the ethernet connection simply will not work - yet as most people realise, ethernet is far more reliable than wi-fi. The signal comes into the box but will not get back to Foxtel. I have used three different ethernet cables. I might have rebooted the IQ3 2 or 3 times a year. I find I have to reboot the IQ4 almost weekly. programs fail to record when set up for auto-record, and sometimes with recorded programs they get half way through the show, the picture freezes, and then jumps to the end of the program. So what about Foxtel help. Yes, what about it? It is mostly automated and trying to talk to a person is almost impossible as the process insists that letting Foxtel auto-reset the box set will fix the problems. It doesn't.Purchased in July 2021.

Improved experience with Foxtel IQ4
Foxtel should be congratulated for IQ4 - providing 4K for some shows (e.g. Rugby World Cup), a remote that is easy to use, and integration with Netflix. Also pleased to hear that ABC iView be accessible soon. Best feature on the remote is the ability to easily turn on captions - don't have to listen quite so intensely to dialogue with different English dialects.

With not outputs, except HDMI, it seems impossible to record anywhere except on the IQ4, including free to air TV.

Yes, HDMI outputs will prevent you directing to a PVR to record the program. There are devices that ignore the HDMI encrypting (probably illegal). I guess if your TV had a PVR function you could plug a stick (Hard Drive) into your TV and record that way, in real time whilst you watch the show. And i understand the recordings on the IQ4 Hard Drive are encrypted so you cannot access them. To record Free to Air you need to by a Stand Alone PVR that has free to air decoders but then of course you have to switch between signal sources.

I upgraded from iq3, so I cannot answer your question properly, the point of it is to be able to provide the 4k, ultra high definition sports channel. The signal will be broadcast in 4k for all channels eventually.
I prefer it to iq3 box, u can watch Netflix through the iq4 box too (providing u have a Netflix subscription).
So is it better quality than iq3?
