HANSA C7
had lots of chippers shredders, bought this used about 4 year ago after adjusting new blades and putting new belts on it has completed an enormous amount of work I have cut down 20 trees on this house block there are lots that remain and require general trimming, would love to get the later model I have used it to chip leftover timber it has saved a lot more than its purchase cost in tip fees and the time it takes to complete a task, recommend these machines excellent value, never mind the cost look at what it does.
Purchased in March 2021.

Hansa C7 is just amazing
The Hansa C7 is the perfect machine for a lifestyle block. I find myself using it 2-3 times a week and have owned it for a couple of years now. Its had a service (thanks to the excellent service standards of STIHL Shop in Richmond) - belt replaced but not much else. Of course, you need to take care of the machine and not overload it or put anything too large in but that is just common sense.
Purchased in January 2021 at Stihl Dealer.

Great mulching machine perfect for my needs
Bought the Hansa C7 to replace my old Superswift garden mulcher which died. What a huge difference a job which usually used to take a whole day down to just 2 hours with the C7. I mainly have pine trees, and it took all the prunnings whole, and the mulch goes straight on the garden. The engine is easy to start. I did have a blockage with some wet leaves but I had powered down the machine not realising it was still processing which caused this. I Opened up the C7 which was easy to do, and used a blower which unblocked the machine and solved thi...Read more
s issue. At full power mixing the leaves with shorter branches works well. The larger branches feed straight through. The C7 is very portable, and fits through my front entrance without any issues so I can use this machine all over my property. Wish I had bought one of these years ago. Also the height of the C7 is great for me I can transfer branches from my wheelbarrow straight to the C7, and more efficient now as no double handling is needed which saves a lot of time.1 comment

Absolute frustration
Have given up on this machine bought new. So frustrating to have to stop it constantly due to clogging. Won’t take anything slightly moist. So temperamental I’ve gone back to burning. Easy to start. Previously made all my own garden compost with another brand which was hard to start but chewed through everything.

would stop the mulch from exiting the machine? Secondly, the machine must be operated at full RPM, otherwise if will not discharge correctly. Otherwise with this very wet material we would suggest feeding it through the machine together with branches. By mixing it together this will ensure the housing is kept clear. Failing this, please feel free to contact the dealer from which you purchased it from to get to the bottom of the issue you have been experiencing.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Excellent. Wish I'd bought one 20 years ago.
I've been burning all my garden waste for years.....what a pity. This machine is easy to start, easy to use, chomps up big branches, and produces mulch. It's all made with high quality components and finishes, and a Honda motor, will last me years. I've already sharpened the blades, easy to do and a delight to see how well it is all made.

The machine is more than adequate for our 1/2 acre property
The machine can handle most twigs and branches provided that you feed in with caution. I sometimes experience blockages with wet leaves and branches. The engine has been easy to start so far and has not stalled under heavy loads and seems suitably sized for the application. The only problem has been with one wheel which was damaged prior to delivery (the rim was dented) causing repeated slow leaks and flats. Hansa have now replaced the wheel.

8+ years and still going strong
To be honest I have no idea how long I've owned my Hansa C7 - it's at least eight years and I bought it second hand. It's a very well made and solid machine. The honda engine starts first pull every time.
The wide chute makes feeding bushy stuff or branches that aren't straight easier - much better than other chippers that have a tiny tube designed for broom-stick straight branches.
The self feeding design works well and the adjustable outlet allows you a bit of control over how far the chips go. Just be aware that the chips come out pr...Read more
etty quickly so trying to collect them in a wheelbarrow won't be very successful. I have chipped up to 100mm branches however I chopped them up into 200-300mm lengths before feeding them in, otherwise the machine will bog down and stall - I don't recommend doing this, rather anything this big turn it into firewood instead. :-) In all the time I've owned the C7 the only replacement parts I've used is two sets of blades. The first set I replaced when I bought it and the second set only because my watch strap broke as I fed a branch in so the chipper ate it - it was not a pretty outcome for the watch or the blades. :-( The C7 is great machine and will serve you well for many many years.Similar opinion? Value for money
Hard to receive value nowadays but the Hansa C7 Chipper has been one.My honest opinion is if you maintain this machine, keep the blades sharp and set correctly, grease the nibbles and follow manufactures recommendations this machine for the average household should last a lifetime. That would make it great value in my opinion.I made the mistake of lending it to my neighbour and he dropped a set of hand held hardened secateurs into the machine, that was no problem for Hansa C7 they came out the chute in about 400 pieces and he then carried on chipping for the rest of the day. When I found out I checked the machine over for damage and only found the blades needed sharpening. I'm very happy with our machine and love the mulch.

What an awesome machine
I looked at a lot of shedders/ Chippers/Mulchers before I was prepared to spend my hard earned cash. I really liked the ruggedness of the C7. I had watched a lot of videos of this machine and I could not find much that showed people chipping or shredding palm fronds. This would be the main thing I’d be using the C7 for along with general garden waste. I have a 5 Acre property with more palm trees than I could count in a day. Literally hundreds of them. You can imagine the mess they make. Well I put two tanks of fuel through the chippe...Read more
r today after picking it up from the dealer yesterday. Went over it myself just to be certain everything was good to go then got stuck into it. The C7 made short work of the palm fronds. I was very surprised at how effortlessly it chewed them up. Some of which had been laying out in the sun for weeks or months. I will admit that it had rained a couple of days ago so they may have been softened a bit, but not by much. Had the machine going for about 6 hours and still have some fuel left in the tank. I did manage to stall it twice getting a little over zealous with some tree branches that were pretty close to the limit. I found that if you have something right on the limit that might be a touch too much I just cut it into shorter lengths. This allowed the flywheel to chip away then regain its momentum. So far I haven’t found a palm frond that will stop it. I have had to trim some of the tree end of the palm fronds off if they are really wide as they won’t fit down the shute. But the rest goes through very easily. I haven’t inspected the blades yet, but I would imagine that chewing up hundreds of palm fronds will blunten them pretty quickly. I plan to buy a second set and swap them over, thus rotating them through the sharpening process. When it’s all said and done I’m very happy with it. Last thing..... buy some good ear muffs. Lucky I’m on 5 Acres and my neighbors are a fair distance. It’s pretty noisy. Lol. Worth every cent! I’ll update this in a few days when I finish the rest of the block.3 comments

Hi Mark, thanks for the great review! Look forward to the update.

il. It seemed to be slightly out of spec. One thing I might advise to make this an even better product is to include the torque settings for all the bolts in the user handbook. For people like myself that live a long way out of town in would be sending my knives in for sharpening and rotating a second set through it.John L.Hansa Chippers
Hi Mark, thanks for the great suggestion, the torque settings will be included in the next manual update due in February 2018. If you wish, we can send you the updated version when available. Send an email to [email protected].

the machine is made very heavy, yet not strong enough to run up and down a ramp for transport. and the PR guy is not a reasonable person (like most) I've had bolts come loose and snap off, being soft metal. now I need to weld an angle between the axels to stop the tyres rubbing against the machine.

Fantastic Chipper!
I am a professional gardener in Melbourne and I use my Hansa C7 Chipper almost everyday. Has saved me a fortune in tipping costs as I just shred everything into the trailer. I can fit 3 trailer loads of rubbish into a single trailer and only get charged once! I have put entire trees through this thing and chipped it up.
Only issue... get a bottle of Locktight and make sure all nuts and bolts are secure as they will vibrate off with extended use.

Nuts getting loose very often, machine stops frequently, unable to transport for repairs as it is to
Unless you have a Trailer, should not buy this chipper. Not good for average back yard, very heavy and nobody wants to transport. Very noisy.
I asked the dealer to pick up and repair the Chipper that I would pay the cost, did not have any corporation from the dealer, contacted manufacturer who advise me to take to any Mover shop. Mover shop could not repair it.

Incredible, much better than expected!
Bought an electric 'mulcher' from a popular hardware dealership - it was a waste of money. Kept jamming and just couldn't do the job. After this disaster, we tried hard to justify the heaps more dollars to buy the C7. Simply we shouldn't have worried and should have bought the C7 first. It works brilliantly with everything we can throw at it on our 9 acre property. It continually surprises us just how good it is at chipping and mulching everything we put through it, and gives us good mulch for our garden. Totally recommend this product.

Does what it says it will.
Bought the C7 model for my garden maintenance business, after looking at other makes and models. I considered the C13 towable model but couldn't justify the extra cost at this stage. I'm also pleased it is NZ designed and made. If chipping mulch was a bigger part of my business operation then I wouldn't hesitate to buy the C13. I had an hour clock installed by the retailer so I know what to charge clients and schedule maintenance. This machine has met all my expectations. Longer and thicker branches need to be fed slower so the flywheel ma...Read more

Solid
Bought a C7 a couple of days ago. Agonized over the price, thinking about all the other things we could spend almost $3000 on... small motorbike.. Holiday in NZ! Took it out on its first job yesterday - it exceeded all expectations - non stop hard work most of the day, including through a period of steady rain. It has started paying for itself already. Well thought out design, awesome build quality, awesome honda motor with 4 year warranty.
Will continue with reviews every 6 months.

rong, trouble free. When operating at maximum capacity / load remember to let the rotor rpm recover before feeding more heavy material in. Palm fronds and other flax type plants are a challenge, best solution is to feed them in with fresh cut branches. Found it to be very economical.. with light stuff it will work hard all day long on one tank of gas. December 2017: Had the blades sharpened for the first time. Simple process to remove and refit them. Have seen comments about the rotor getting clogged & jammed with chips.. doesn’t happen often but just open her up, grab your leaf blower and blow the chips out. Only takes a sec.Similar opinion? Very solid, reliable performer for the home garden
After considering the cheaper alternatives, I decided to go for the Hansa as being NZ made, easy to service and with readily available parts/warranty should something go wrong. The online videos made them look plenty powerful enough for our one acre section.
In summary, it's a brilliant bit of kit....plenty of grunt and easy to start and operate. Servicing the cutting disc is easy too, and I've had the blades sharpened once so far. Adjusting the belt tension is easy, although I'm not quite sure I got it right recently, and after eight month...Read more
s of hard chipping, I've got to get a replacement belt as the first one has worn through. Highly recommended over the cheap, lightweight options (which, to be fair, I haven't used). EDIT: After reading the manual, the correct belt tension is ~1cm of deflection, which is still a little vague, but now with a brand new belt, tensioned decently, it's running as good as new.Similar opinion? Very well designed machine that excels
Well the Hansa replaced a very ordinary Peacemaker that kept braking crankshafts and never did a great job.
The Hansa shreds 10 times faster than the Peacemaker ever did and is a superior belt driven design.
This means it's easier to start as the heavy fly wheel is decoupled reducing stresses on the motor.
Great Honda motor runs smoothly and starts easily.
Overall a very well designed and built shredder but expensive.
It's nice when a machine just does its job with no fuss!

Works well for for certain workloads; with one key design fault
I purchased for a pretty large workload on acreage but this machine has one key design fault IMO. It performed well and can shred through branch sizes as described by the manufacturer. However if some of the thicker branches are too long it will stall as the fly wheel looses momentum. And this is where the design fault exists. On stall there is essentially a bucket full of chips in the base of the flywheel well. And generally these are really jammed in there and you cannot restart the mulcher until these are removed and cleared out. Unfortunate...Read more
ly the only way to access them is to attempt spinning the flywheel yourself by hand and this thing is fringing dangerous. So unless there is something I'm missing I feel this a major design fault and ultimately pretty dangerous. After some time with this machine you will start to understand what its capabilities are and will have less stalls and therefore less finger loosing opportunities. I do recommend this machine but if I had the cash to splash I would have gone the next model for my needs which would mean less use of chain saw. My learnings from this purchase are as follows: 1. Buy the bigger one if you can afford it i.e. C13 2. Make sure you wear gloves. :-).Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Keatingsasked
I do lots of palms and lots of foxtails. They seem to wear blades quickly. Machine has done about 35 hrs. I am on 3rd set of blades and need to turn anvil around. Is this normal? Any suggestions?
Can anvil be resharpened? If so, what cutting angle?
3 answers
I have had the blades sharpened - not replaced - 3 times. (Cost $20 each time). The anvil is at 90deg, (blades 40 deg) you should be able to rotate it once, then I'd guess resharpen it or get a new one. Wear depends on what you are chipping with the machine, perhaps palms are more abrasive, particular if dry. Ask the Hansa people, they are very helpful and have given me a jig (which I have not used yet) for resetting the blades after sharpening.
I sharpen my blades also. What does jig do? Is it to get correct anvil setting?
John L.Hansa Chippers
Hi Keatings, Mark is right, you can get your blades sharpened and it is quite affordable. For you to be going through blades that quick and the anvil needing replacement you must be putting through small stones or something similar (grit or sand) when picking up the palms from the ground. We sell hundreds of sets of blades a year but i could count the fingers on one hand the amount of anvils we sell a year.
You cannot sharpen the anvil as this will increase the gap between the blade and the angle too much. Turn it around 180 degrees and use but under normal working conditions this should last you at least 3 years.
