Hello, I have a Holman 20 which is not retracting and it feels like a weight of some sort has come lose which won't now pull it back in?
Can I fix this myself please?

Hello Marc G, I am sorry to hear you are having problems with your retractable hose reel.
Your unit should not be performing this way.
While some parts in the units can be repaired, or replaced, other parts, such as the locking mechanism and internal spring, are not.
We do offer replacement on units that fail within the warranty period.
Without a receipt, we can only take the batch number.

Hello Tony, The batch number of your unit indicates the year and week of manufacture.
With this number, your unit is beyond warranty.
a batch number is only an indication of the age of the unit, it is not a proof of purchase.
Please refer to your receipt, and Bunnings will honour the 2-year replacement warranty if the unit is within that period.

I have a XW 20 Holman retractable hose reel, the lock stopped working today, it has a date 17/46 can I take it for a replacement, it was a gift from my son and I don't have the receipt, assuming the adding of 6 months to the manufacture date can it return it to Bunnings for a replacement? Without being able to lock it is useless.

My unit failed 3 months after warranty. Considering this appears to be a common situation in the reviews and the initial Holman response was arrogantly offhand, I informed them I was making a complaint to ACCC that the unit is not “fit for purpose”. Which I did. I also informed Bunnings. I immediately got response both from Bunnings and Holman and received a full refund.

Like so many others here, my Holman 20m retractable hose has stopped locking. I cannot find my receipt (purchased from Bunnings), batch number XW20 PP 17/27. Not sure if it is still under warranty. if not it should be covered under Australian Consumer Law, shouldn't it? There are a couple of areas.
1) A purchased item has a major problem when it: is substantially unfit for its common purpose and can’t easily be fixed within a reasonable time. Holman have responded to a number of people saying the locking function cannot be replaced or repaired.
2) Suppliers and manufacturers guarantee that goods are of acceptable quality when sold to a consumer. This includes durability! There is a consumer expectation that the retractable hose will function fora reasonable time after purchase, a period longer than the 2 year warranty.

Do I turn ON the tap before I pull the hose out to use?
I have read that I must turn off the tap and release the pressure before I rewind it. Manual does not answer my question.

I purchased 20m and 30m Holman reels November last year from Bunnings (still looking for receipt). The 20m unit has stopped retracting... well it makes about 3 turns and then runs out of 'puff'. The 30m reel still working fine. Anything I can do to fix it? From your FAQ page it seems the warranty has only just expired.

Q : Can you extend the distance from the source tap to the reel slightly longer than the 2M suggested, or will this extension of only about 1/2 of one metre extra hose between the reel and the source tap effect the water flow?

Sorry unfortunately i can't answer that question as I've never had to extend the length of the source hose. To make sure i would contact Holman they may be able to help you.

You are within warranty period. Take it back to Bunnings for a refund...don't accept exchange for a new one. They are not designed to last in my view. Purchase another brand. TQ

Thanks. We located the receipt after I asked the question and we have a replacement hose and reel now. Hopefully this will last longer than the first one!
