I too bought a 30m retractable hose thinking it to be a good investment despite original price. After a few years now of limited use it has stopped retracting and has no weight on the spring. I am told this is not repairable!! A "retractable" hose that doesn't retract is surely unfit for purpose. How will this be rectified ?

dear waz my wake up call was when my 2 holman hoses broke their springs . Their 2 yr warranty is great for a person who uses it constantly because it will break down before the warranty expires and their can exchange it but for me who treats it with respect and uses it to wash the car and a bit of watering the warranty is superflous .The units casing and quality of hose and low price makes buying it irresistible however when its internals exist of plastic parts and a spring that no longer retracts then you start looking for another hose company. I am currently using their hose between 2 brackets thats all its good for. take the time to pull it apart and you will see how poor it quality is. regards tony

My hose reel rewind guide is worn (hose bunching on one side). I want to order a replacement but the only info here is to ring. Can I order a part on line? I can then check the cost, address, name and part are correct rather than guessing the other person heard me correctly. Thanks.

I've had 2 did the same, they finally retracted but not fully, went downhill from there. If it's under warranty, return it. Either get a replacement or my recommendation get your money back and get a hoselink reel

I spoke to a lady at Holmans regarding the problem, she requested the number under the cover which was 17/13. She then said it was still under warranty, to return it to Bunnings and that they will give me a replacement. I haven’t done that yet because of the social distancing measures. I intend to take it to Bunnings when things clear up.

Hey there, I’ve got a Holman 30 auto retract hose reel.
My issue is that I had a leak at the internal hose fitting. I’ve unwound the hose from the unit locked it in with the locking bars and fixed the leak(hose pulling out from female hose fitting screw on clamp). When I’ve gone to click the female hose end onto the hose reel male receptor the locking bars have let go and the reel has completely unwound. My question is, is the reel and tensioner spring resettable like a workshop hydraulic hose reel, or is the item now U/S and needs replacing? I’m hoping I can just wind the reel by hand to set the tension again!!

Hi, 17/46 is the number under my lid. The guide basically lost all tension after the unit kept bunching to one side and now when it reels back in I have to move it from side to side manually to try and mimic the layering action. Of course, the last few metres never goes back in.
I’m looking for the receipt as we speak, but wouldn’t think it would be more than 18 months old. Love the concept, but should have known nothing is made to last anymore. Back to the old wheel rim if the $140 gizmo can’t be fixed... cheers Yonny.

From the other reviews read this is a common problem
my 30m has stopped retracting
numbers under the lid are 17/31
and as it was a gift ... no receipt
it was a xmas two years ago
but do know it was from Bunnings
hoping you can help

Hello John, without a receipt it is going to be very difficult for Bunnings to exchange.
This illustrates the importance of retaining receipts for warrantied products, once a receipt has been discarded, it is difficult to establish age of the product or if you are the original purchaser. The batch number of your unit indicates the year and week of manufacture.

We do allow 6 months to be added to this number, however, a batch number is only an indication of the age of the unit, it is not a proof of purchase.
Please refer to your receipt, and Bunnings will honour the 2-year replacement warranty if the unit is within that period. Thank you, your Holman Team!

check your bank statements, I returned an item to a garden centre (not Bunnings) with just the item listed on my credit card statement. It was the only item I had ever bought there but Bunnings may accept that, especially if it was the only item purchased at the time.... which it never is, who only ever only buys one item from Bunnings. Theoretically they could find the sales item in their computers from that but that would be a very long shot.

Hello.
I have had my holman retractable hose for about 2 years. Great purchase.
However, just recently the little wheel spinner that moves from side to side to guide the hose in when it retracts has stopped moving, therefore all the hose is bunching up on one side.
Just wondering is there an easy way to fix it??

I would suggest that you contact them direct and ask for a fix

Open the inspection cover on top lever the white sliding piece out or cut it out remove off hose as well Cut it off .... when retracting just move hose left to right

At the end of 2017 early 2018 our 20 townhouse complex each had a new 30m retractable hose installed. I have never used the hose beyond the 7m x 7m courtyard but two days ago I pulled it out 20 metres to the driveway to wash down a car covered in ash. Tried to put the hose back but it will not retract more than 5m of hose leaving 10 - 15 metres of hose out. Is there anyway to fix this? Look inside cover and xaw 17/31 XW30. Unable to get purchase details from the previous Strata Manager but it was a group buy. Can you advise if this is still under warranty or how I can fix it. Thanks Chris

Sometimes, as with all hose or cord rewinds, pull it all the way out and then slowly let it feed back in. This should rectify the problem

Hello CC. If your retractable is not performing correctly and it is under warranty ( which the batch number does indicate) the process is to return it to Bunnings with your proof of purchase and it will be replaced for you.

Hi my Holman reel returns OK but all in one spot. The sliding merchanism is jammimg and the belt jumping notches. Lubrication doesn't seem to help. Is the sliding guide replaceable?

So my Holman 30 1721 model failed about 3 months into use and I see it is not an uncommon problem, I have just used it as an expensive non retracting hose for ages until now when I have tried to reloop the hose around the cylinder . I have given up. Based on the series is it under warranty? Pieces of metal have fallen out parts of the spring, I am guessing. Purchased from Bunnings.

Hello Steve, thank you for your query. This is beyond warranty, based on the batch number. If you have your receipt, you are welcome to take it to Bunnings, it will be at their discretion whether they exchange it or not.

I have the exact same problem but I fixed it to the wall. Its a lot of trouble the remove and take back to Bunnings. Ive had this hose for 10months and no longer retracts.

Does the Spring break on the retractable Holman 30 m. hose. Can I pull it to bits and reweld or whatever as I am a handyman. Ron Horton. It is out of warranty.

Hello Ron, yes, in some cases the internal spring may fail. we do not recommend you open your unit for repairs.

Same problem, Last 15m of hose stopped retracting & cant seem to locate receipt. Under lid batch No. 17/19 is this still under warranty?

Hello Marty, While some parts in the units can be repaired, or replaced, other parts, such as the locking mechanism and internal spring, are not.
We do offer replacement on units that fail within the warranty period. Without a receipt, we can only take the batch number.
This shows your unit is beyond warranty, but we would be happy to have it replaced for you, however, If you do not have your proof of purchase it will be up to Bunnings discretion whether they exchange it or not.

Just a reminder for those with problems with ANYTHING just out of warranty. If you used a gold/platinum or similar credit card to purchase then you have an extra 12 months warranty through the card's insurance policy. I'm sure you would need the receipt.

I have the 20m retractable unit. It's been working fine but now the 'brake' is not working and the hose will retract if it doesn't have someone holding it, and it makes a horrible banging noise when it does retract. I noticed the plastic on the side of the unit where the badge is gets pushed outwards and then inwards as the wheel turns. The wheel is also rubbing against the 'fan belt' on the inside of the unit. It seems like the wheel has been knocked out of position or something? Is this something I could fix myself?
