Great mower
Very, very happy with this mower. It cuts well, feels solidly built and is easy to use.
The downside: there was a small production run of engines which had faulty throttles. Mine was unfortunately one of those, and it took a couple of trips back to the retailer (Haughton Honda, in Adelaide) to get it fixed. But since then it's been flawless and is a pleasure to use.

Great Mower
I run a lawn mowing business, have for the last 12 yrs. Never a problem with the old design and the new. I have four buffalo 19", each rotated every 2 days. These mowers get flogged every day Monday to Saturday, never missed a beat, but you must, like anything look after them. Change the oil, blades, filter etc weekly. In regards to the clogging on the new models, don t mow wet grass, looks shithouse, take the day off. I have two new models, bit heavy for a weak person, but you shouldn't be lifting them onto a ute without a ramp anyway. Cuts lo...Read more
ng grass no problem. At the end of the day its not the mower that's the problem, its usually the person pushing it doesn't know how to operate it correctly. I know contactors that have been using the same Honda mower for 15 years plus, maintenance is the key though.1 comment

HRU196K1 - Great engine but poorly engineered catcher design. Not worth the money.
I always wanted to own a Honda mower due to their 1 pull start and reliability so I purchased at HRU196K for $930 but was let down with the mower chassis and catcher design after getting it home.
I would not recommend this mower due to the catcher design alone because it is extremely frustrating even with dry grass and wish I had only come across this website before purchasing my mower…
Honda engineers should have done better - my 5 year old $350 Victa 2-stroke did a better job at picking up the grass and never missed a beat either.

Interesting to read this after intensive research of the current market. The latest Honda mowers are disappointing - mesh catcher in attempts to reduce already V heavy weight. Now two blade where they... Read more
previously said four was best! Also small aperture for grass exit into catcher - have a good look before buying. All this and not to mention the ridiculous engine stopping device, each time lever on handle is released! Can understand a blade release but engine stopping each time...........wonder how long the starter mechanism will work after starting engine 10-30+ times per mow, depending on lawn size? Suggest one looks carefully at other options - there are products with strong plastic catchers and ability to pick up wet grass without spillage out there!I can't understand you, where do you think the grass is going to go if the catcher is full?what do you think the catcher should empty itself so you don't spill grass when you empty it.
Logan the problem being is that you have to clear the shute every time you fill a bag especially if there is any hint of moisture. In other ealier models with a full open shute there was no shute to clear.
