I have Penrite ( Aussie brand) Honda diff fluid but I can't be bothered replacing it. It only squeals when chucking a U turn so not worth doing IMO.

Update, just changed my diff fluid with the Penrite stuff and the squeal, shudder is gone on all but the tightest full lock turns. This will fix the squeal for sure.

Every fuel gauge is a little bit different before the fuel light comes on. Mine can still run another 50 kms on 100km/hr road with the light on and will still have enough fuel in it. Personally, I don't like leaving the fuel light on and keep on driving. I always make it a habit ti fill up before the fuel light comes on especially if you are living on places where there is no 24hr gas station that is nearby. In case of emergency at night you are pretty much stuck. Filling my tank with the light on in Australia with 98 ron is around 50-60 dollars at 1.35-1.54$/litre. I would use 95 ron most of the time which is a little bit cheaper than 98 ron. I find it my engine sounds funny if I fill up using E10, so I just don't use E10 on my CRV. If you like driving on twisty roads, CRV handles a little bit better in half filled fuel tank rather than full. If you do long drives mostly on motorways and do not like stopping for about 5-6 hours, one full tank will do the job, feather the gas pedal, you might even get more than that. Your bladder should be exploding by then. If you like economy, feather the gas pedal. If you like power floor the gas pedal. If you do the later, your will fuel will not last that long. I also find it that my engine was more responsive and powerful after I had a oil change, oil filter change, spark plug change, plus intake and exhaust valve adjustment. I did it myself, I was very happy about the results.

Don't know exactly for your model, but my 2013 build CRV takes 48 litres when the range calculator says 0. (Tank is rated at 58 litres) Fuel light comes on before range indicator reaches 0 (yes I know they are not that accurate) but I think it's safe to assume around 8- 10litres left when the fuel light comes on. So, subtract that from your tank's rated fuel capacity and you have answer to your question.

I'm not a mechanic but I was getting shudders at 3 000 km and the dealer's workshop immediately changed the oil and it fixed it. Regular oil changes with flush won't hurt your car but not sure if this will solve your issue. I also read about some people experiencing shudder problems and due to the 4WD on demand usually not being demanded enough some bits don't get enough of a workout and a skid around a paddock on full lock might help. I did have a Pajero which shuddered and a drive on full lock in both directions cleared the problem. Hope it helps. A diff would probably be more expensive than the car's value. Good luck.

Your crv definately needs the oil in the rear diff changed. It's a unique oil called Honda dual pump 2 fluid and the manual calls for it to be changed twice after you get problems similar to what your experienceing to fully flush all the fluid. They also call for a burnishing procedure to resurface the clutch plates, which you can perform by driving around in circles to wear the diffs clutch surfaces down slightly then change the fluid. This should stop the shuddering.

My 2005 2.4 litre auto averages 10.5 litres/100km city driving. Highway trips maybe better than 9.5. Consistent with it's mileage since new. Not sure how earlier models do.

I was curious to see what others were getting with a CRV of similar vintage and assumed that my model would be about 10.5 Litres/100kms as an average all round figure (urban, highway driving), so I guess I should be happy with what I get. Haven't had this Honda for long so will keep an eye on fuel consumption. and see how we go.

I have 98 model 5 sp Manual and I get between 500-600kms a tank mixed driving highway/ local driving on ulp 91 Ron standard fuel

Hi Michelle, although they were well build 350,000 km is a bit high for a CRV. The only big issue with this CRV it was the automatic transmission giving up bit earlier than expected. The manual transmission is more reliable (but also it depends on how it has been treated).
The only suggestion I give you is that if you know the person that was driving it and you know that those kms are mostly done on highway I would give it a go. If you don't know the person and if the seller is a car dealer I would stay away.
Price ways I'd say around $2,000, if you know the person.

That depend what kind of off road you want to do. I have this model and I like the driving position, road clearance and occasionally using as bug out vehicle, which means not heavy off road but just dirty road without corrugation. It is reliable if kept in its environment without abuse. I wouldn't go to Landcruiser mountain park with it for sure unless I stay where the roads are very easy on the car. But... I would go on the beach and trust it as far as you have a little compressor to deflate and inflate the tyre it is great. There are plenty of video in youtube showing how this little care behave on the beach and little offroad.

We ended up selling ours with 140,000kms - well traded it anyway for $5,500, so don't pay too much would be my advice if you do buy one with 240 k's on it.

Ours was still in brilliant condition and we never had a problem, but sold it for something more luxurious and slightly safer for the kids. The new car is a BMW x5 and while it's so nice to drive, we've already had a few niggly issues and have spent more on fixing them than we did fixing anything in the 7+ years of owning the CRV. The CRV never let us down.

It would be worthwhile googling some of the forums as well I reckon. Edmunds cold be a good first point of reference for you.

As a mechanic I have bought high km cars as long as the owner can prove that regular oil changes have been done. If the only thing that has been changed regularly is the oil and with quality oil then a Japanese engine should do between 300,000kms-500,000kms. You have to remember that everything else on the car wears as well like suspension bushes, shocks etc. honda automatic gearboxes are rubbish and don't last very long at all so if you can drive manual then I would buy a manual honda crv. Generally this model crv is a good car. Easy to work on and parts aren't that expensive. Timing belts to be changed every 100,000kms and change the water pump at the same time . Otherwise they are a good drive if you find a decent one.
