Accelerator cable is broken how to find out
No answers
Nigel P.asked
My CR-V RD7 shakes badly between 20km/h - 40km/h. When I accelerate to about 80km/h, the shaking goes off. What may be the possible cause?
1 answer
Broken engine mounts? If you put the car in neutral and rev the engine do you feel the shaking? If yes, engine mounts may be the likely cause. If not then it could be front drive shafts.

My rd7 makes low continuous whirring noise. What could it be? Checked transmission oil and seems okay.
1 answer
It could simply be a light whine from a transmission/differential bearing which is common on a lot of vehicles and never poses a potential fail.If you are concerned it would be a good idea to get it inspected by a qualified mechanic just in case it is a belt pulley bearing or something similar which are often a low cost repair. I am not sure that Product Review is the correct place to be asking for mechanical advice though :)

Does anybody know if you can display the value of the average fuel consumption on the dash board of a 2005 rd7 model?
2 answers
Yes. I am not sure if the Japanese domestic model has it, but I know that the export version definitely had the digital indicator.
Yes it is on one of the options for the odometer screen. Just push the knob and watch the display change till you see the average fuel consumption displayed.

I have a 2002 model CRV. In the last year, it has started to blow a puff of blue smoke after its idled for a few seconds. It doesn't always do it, it's very intermittent. Checked the pcv valve and it's ok. Cannot find the egr valve but when l do, it will be checked. Has anyone else had this issue and how was it fixed? Thanks team.

sounds like valve stem seals...it will keep doing it till they are replaced
Thanks. l think you are right. just seemed a bit odd it doesn't do it from cold start. only after idle. Time to Upgrade!
Agree with Gruffo. Mine blows smoke and smells bad slowing down from high speed or coming down a hill so yeah, valve stem seals.

i have a 2004 Honda CRV, had it since NEW. For the most part I love my car. I have a question for you. When I am driving, suddenly the Drive light on the dash board starts to flash. It does not ever stop whilst I am driving. Can you please tell me why it is doing this? This has been going on now for the past year. There is also another problem, about 6 times this has happened over the last year as well....
It has just stopped on me twice, and 4 times it has only just started, weakly, like it is not functioning on all cylinders. A friend suggested to have someone look at the fuel injector. i have always had it serviced regularly, and mechanics have not found the problem.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Jeanette Gatti.

does anybody answer these questions in a professional capacity?
Of course mechanical repairs and servicing workshop can't find the problem as it seems like an electrics fault possibly in the onboard computer - I'd recommend you take the vehicle to a Honda Australia workshop or perhaps a auto electrician shop such as ultratune or kmart tyres and auto might be able to help
Shops like ultratune are experts at diagnosis and repairs of faults and are cheaper than the original manufacturers workshops and if the vehicle isn't under warranty then that's great though if it's still under warranty the car dealers workshop is supposed to fix the problem under warranty

How many km's would a 2002 cr-V Honda get from a full tank?
2 answers
About 150 km i rekon!
Depends on the size of the tank = I don't know how many litres the 2002 model holds. However on my 2013 CRV-4WD auto I get about 560km before the 'range' indicator says 0kms - at which point there is about 8-10litres left in the tank. Extrapolating from that I'd expect 650-700 before it would run bone dry.

Hi, in my crv from last two days I find out 'D' sign start flicking after driving couple of min. If u change it to 'N' or 'R' it stil flickers. But if u stop the engine and start again it back to normal. Can anyone help me in this issue?? Thanks

i am guessing that its just a problem with the display on your dash, take it to an auto electrician if youre worried, but i doubt its a real problem
Go to an auto electrician. It's probably just wire connected in your dash.
Hi, Flashing D is an error code from the transmission, if it is still changing and working OK it is probably not major. Could be an intermittent connection from one of the sensors on the transmission. These auto's are like a manual transmission but with clutches changing the gears, not planetary gears like a conventional auto trans. Sensors measure all sorts of things, gear change, oil pressure, temp etc. Honda or a good transmission tech can read the codes. My issue was an intermittent connection on the 3rd gear sensor, was still changing perfectly.

Anyone know what the estimated life of a CRV would be, i.e. how many klms before running into engine issues. Looking at getting a 2002 CRV sports model with 221,000 klms from a second hand dealer with 12 months warranty for around $8000.00. Should I pay and extra $1000.00 to get an extra 3 years warranty. Car looks in great shape for its age and mileage but I am not a mechanic so will ask a mechanic to do an inspection before purchase if I go this way. Any thoughts? Thanks.

If its an Auto, I would say forget it. There are too many issues with transmission problems after as little of 80,000km

Hi are the Honda crvs any good of road along the beach? Thanks
1 answer
Yes they are good both off road and on the beach as the 4wd is auto. However the profile is not high without a lift kit so i would advise keeping this in consideration and stick to well used tracks. Recently i went on a trip through national forest and encountered various surfaces and the Honda coped well. I would not take on sand dunes though. Hope this helps.

I bought a used Honda CR V in Feb 2012. It is now Oct and I am getting a vibration when I drive over speeds of 80km. I thought it was the tyres. but i got them changed n got the vehicle aligned, but it still vibrates. What could be the problem?

Seriously mate this car is a dream to drive so I would be getting a second opinion on the wheel balance. I share with a mechanic and he said that shuddering over 80ks is definitely a wheel balance issue. I also thought it could be that the car has been in an accident so get the chassis checked at the same time. I really hope for your sake it is the first option. I received some good advice once, when buying a car - run a magnet in cloth over the side panels as bog doesn't magnetize and is a good indicator of a side prang. Also check how the doors fit in the recesses and hinges. You may know this already but it has saved me a number of times from buying a lemon. Good Luck!
Here’s the breakdown of the reasons for the shudder in the Honda CRVs new and older models:
1. Bushes and dampeners. Mechanic should be able to do a quick check of this if it is in for a service.
2. Drive shaft. Mechanic should be able to see if there is anything loose or worn. May not be absolutely clear though. But they can push things around underneath and check it during a routine service. If this is the problem you can either get new replacement part which will cost $1200 plus labour or your mechanic can search around for a wreck part on a low mileage CRV, do some cleaning up of it and try that for $600 plus labour. You can get an Accord replacement part however they are not strong/hard enough.
