Shouldn't be happening, possible causes :
1. Leaving choke on for too long and flooding the engine while attempting to start.
2. Carburetor flooding due to stuck needle valve or dirt in the carby fuel bowl.
3. Drain screw on the bottom of the Fuel Bowl not tightened.
4. Fuel bowl seal faulty.

The floater in the carburetor is not working properly. Take it apart and remove the rust out of the pan - see if it still can work for you. Leaving gas in the generator, even for less than 6 months can stop the carburetor from doing its job. The pin (Rubber end) and the seat need to be cleaned and also the balance pin. Use a good spray and blow all the channels open. Put together and let it run. Thank me later.

Hi. Have recently acquired a Honda 20i with our horse lorry. Works perfectly but I would like to use it at the stables where we have no electricity. I want to run the jet washer but I can’t just plug it into the generator because of the round two pin plug - what do I need to buy as an adaptor please? I can only find a round three pin adaptor.
Thank you
Ps I’m in UK

Hi, I am not sure, sounds like you have the USA plug which is a 2 pin. As I am in Australia we have a different type of plug ( 3 pin flat).
I would recommend contacting a local Honda Generator Dealer.
Cheers.

this size genset wont run a pressure washer think 5 to 6 kva my gentrax 3.5 won't even turn over a mid size girni I think it is 1700 watts so multiply that by at least 5 to allow for start up current draw, and you get 8500 watts so you you need at least a 6 kva and still it mite damage that size genset trying to start it. air compressors and pressure washers are almost imposable to use without the very largest genet's, like 8 kva for safety and not to damage your genset.

Sorry, to difficult to guess, hard to know if its electrical or a carby problem, did you try a new spark plug? or check to see if the air filter is blocked? I think it needs an experienced eye to look at the problem.

How can I tell how many hours my EU20i has run for?

Hi, you have 2 options, one is to keep a manual log and the other is to purchase an electronic tacho/hour meter which is a small device that you attach to your generator with a 'probe' wire that wraps around the spark plug lead and by measuring the spark impulse it gives engine revs and importantly the engine running hours, it also comes with its own internal long life battery so it is very easy to install and set up.
I have been a long time retired now, but the ones we used to sell were called Tiny Tach, ask at your local Outdoor Power equipment shop, they should be able to assist.

Just checked the manual. It appears that on start up the red light will blink for each 50 hr block of operation.

Hi I have Honda Eu10i as emergency power. Have plugged into switch board as I have done before and it keeps showing red overload light - nothing is on. Never had this happen before- any suggestions?

Sorry, but a difficult one to answer. Did you try running the Generator unplugged and without load? also then try using it to run a small appliance or electric drill. A process of elimination of the problem is required. Suggest then if the problem persists you will need to take it to a Honda Dealer for further testing.
Good luck...

Hi Dave, I avoid e10 and only use standard unleaded.
I'm no expert but have been told don't bother with it.

Hi Dave,
Best to avoid E10 fuel, the ethanol in the fuel is hydroscopic and will absorb moisture which may condense out into water in the fuel tank

peter h.
peter h.

also the etholal separate's out of the fuel over time and will case engine damage on next start-up. it will also eat your fuel lines in your fuel system
sorry for poor spelling I am a mechanic not a accountant.
any way the Honda is not designed for e 10 don't use it. it is not to be used in outboards for the same reason long time frame betten uses of engine and the fuel line issue. and engine trying to run on pure ethnol after it has separated out of the host petrol causes massive engine damage.

I have a EU20i which is under 2 years old with very little use (purchased for emergency supply)
Since new it has output 240v 60Hz where the specs say 240v 50Hz
Is this a fault or misleading advertising?

Hi Rob, 240v 50 Hz is correct, not sure where you would see 60 Hz advertised, probably a mistake, but to be sure give Honda MPE Melbourne a call to check.
Cheers.

Hi Greg, I think you have misunderstood my question. When I first bought my EU20i I used a power meter to check the load I had plugged in, this meter provides a display of volts, amps, watts and frequency (Hz). The meter showed the output of the generator was 240 volts, 60 Hz. When I contacted the supplier they said I was getting good value for my money as it was outputting a higher frequency than the advertised 50 Hz. I will take it back under warranty (3 years I believe), I didn’t want to do it over summer as I bought the unit in case of blackouts, it has been one of those things that I need to get around to doing ASAP. Rob.

Ken G
Ken G

Hi Rob,
Did you ever resolve this issue.
I have a similar problem with an EU20i.
The label on the generator indicates the output is 240V 50Hz, but when I check, the output it is actually 240V, 60Hz.
I have an idea about how to solve the problem but don't know if I am right and haven't tried it yet.
regards,
Ken
