Quality Mower Worth The Purchase
As a commercial mower in 2008 I purchased one of these to make my life easier when doing the tuff and dirty jobs (high grass and big bumpy blocks) i was so impressed i purchased a 2nd one and wouldn't use anything else...great finish and durable not to mention time saving, even the missus could use it on the days she tagged along!

So disapointed.
I paid top dollar for a mower that I thought would cope with the harder jobs. Granted the grass is high and even a bit wet... but that's why I bought a mower for top dollar. This mower just cannot cope. Turns the job into a nightmare.
Clogs - bogs down and hasn't got the grunt to do the hard yards.

Your response is sensible but obvious. I set the mower at a higher setting when required. I clean the under carriage and chute often. However, no matter how high or clean a lemon is - it is still a ... Read more
lemon! I will call as you suggest to discuss. Also, to be fair, for smaller to average size jobs it is just fine.

Who'd waste their money on a Honda?
I help an elderly widow out around her yard and have done so for over 25 years. Her yard is over 2.5 acres but it has too many trees to use a ride-on. She bought one of these time wasters in 2008 because we were told it would cut the mowing time by about 1/3. This piece of rubbish chokes at long grass, thick grass, wet grass & dust- which sums up their yard completely. I have a 30+ year old 2 stroke Victa which runs rings around it. If she had the money & I had the time, I'd throw it & get something to do the job a lot easier.
easy start, good size catcher, self propel function
chute clogs too easily, engine cuts out as soon as the going gets tough, self propel function could be faster, hard to restart when hot

honda.com.au and we will have someone look into this issue for you. Many thanks, SarahWe have managed to find a mechanic who has improved it a little. I just put up with its idiosyncrasies because it is now of an age where it is easier to put up with it instead of trying to improve it

Find out how Honda Buffalo Classic HRU216D compares to other Petrol Lawn Mowers
Know better, choose better.
Amazed at this mower, will buy another!
I bought this mower as a job lot with some other lawn care gear when setting up my business. At the time I was using a trusty victa 2 stroke for push mow jobs. The advice when I bought the gear was that the mower was nearly knackered after more than 5 years of commercial use, but might be handy as a spare. The only pull - fest I had was first time I tried to start it, until I realised the fuel tank was bone dry! Cuts well, labours on wet grass and it does clog up - but still better than anything else I've used. It does catch pretty well, e...Read more
specially with new blades. I've started giving the cutting edge an extra tweak before I put new blades on, and extending the length of the cutting edge (works great). Not overly thirsty. I will be buying another one soon, second hand will be fine - so if you have one and dont like it - let me know, I'll make an offer! Highly recommended for larger lawns and commercial use. Starts first pull (mostly, if not then always on the second!), reliable, sturdy, good bag capacity Heavy (and unwieldy) for a pushie / self propelled (I think that is outweighed by the pros), Hates dirty air filters (but that is easily remedied!)1 comment

OK
Great mower but I have had three of these and found one if used in sandy based areas main housing wears out replacement 500 dollars and if u accidently use premium unleaded motor will over heat and seize another 600 dollars but cant find another to replace it so I stick to Honda till I find better
Great when working
Prob average25 hours a week have to change blades every 4 days which is costly and dealer says change oil weekly so it all adds up

I’ve just purchased a 2nd hand Honda HRU 216D Buffalo Classic.
Read the reviews here.
Just wondering what type of fuel to use in it.
Someone said don’t use premium unleaded.
TIA.
Penny.

Hi Penny, Ive always used the 98 octane premium fuel. If you want to check just call a Honda mower shop, they will tell you what to use or any shop that sells Honda mowers

Gday,
love my HRU 216D mower its about 7 ish years old now has cut wet and dry grass without effort and never failed, I am having just now a fuel supply problem and have taken apart the carburetta, cleand it out and reassembled it.
So what is happening is it starts and runs for about 6 mayby 8 seconds and then cuts out not to start unless I drain the fuel and clear out (as it seems) excess fuel in the chamber. Can you advise if this is a float problem or something else.
I like to repair and understand these things my self and look forward to your reply.

Whilst we understand your frustration that the unit may not have met your expectations. We appreciate all feedback from our customers, whether it be negative or positive. It gives us an opportunity to improve the services and products we provide. Here are some suggestions that may assist you: - If cutting long grass or wet grass the cutting height should be increased. Optimal collection will occur on height setting 5 and above in these conditions. - Releasing the blade brake will result in the air flow stopping, grass will then sit in the discharge chute and will need to manually cleared. Establish when the bag is full during normal usage as the new models collect more grass and will require to be emptied more frequently. If you would like to discuss this matter further please contact our customer relations team at: [email protected] or 1300 559 846 Many thanks, Sarah
