2013 Odyssey = Best for running around town with a load full of "smelly" kids
In 2013 we've traded in our forever problematic VW Tiguan for a Honda Odyssey....what a far cry!!!
Super easy to drive, plenty of space, comfortable, and I didn't need to pay in excesses of $800 for service..... like the Tiguan !!!
What I like the most is the dual air-cond with third row vent + second row controller - in our case that really helps, especially when I'm with 4+ kids in the car after footy.
The engine is more than adequate for city driving, but it will struggle with 7 people + cargo box in your way to Gold Coast......(and make sure U are not in a rush :).... Saying that the car is very comfortable and long trips are easy to manage.

Best option for growing family
Easy to drive with amazing 360degree camera making it so easy to park. The two middle seats are fantastic for long journeys and have the option to fold down flat. It is a really comfortable car that I have driven for some 10+ hour journeys and it just felt like a breeze. The electric sliding doors and keyless entry make it so easy when your trying to get in with little ones. Going from a small car I was really tentative to get something so big, but this car is just so easy I would never look back!

This is perfect for family
Drive very smooth as silk. Few things missing like just provide power park brake button instead of lag park paddle, missing car boot door auto shutdown. Running cost is not bad as considering big car. Approx 9L per 100 kms. Over all very nice car. very happy, value for money too.

The only option for fuel economy and a large family
I'm about to have a 3rd baby and needed an occasional 7 seater. I didn't want a large van that drives like a bus and really did not want a large suv that uses heaps of petrol. This one seems to tick al the boxes. Heaps of boot space with the back seats down. I'm able to fit 3 car seats across the 2nd row (2 sns maxi riders and sns saftey capsule). When we have visitors the 2 carseats go into the back row and guests sit in the middle row. With the back seat up i can dtill fit in luggage and a pram. There is plenty of leg room in the 3rd row. It is really smooth to drive but totally gutless.

Everything you want in style
Absolutely LOVE our odyssey. I cannot believe I did not discover minivans earlier! The selling point for me was the electric sliding rear doors and 4cyl engine. For us the car is to be used around the city, so why would I need the v6 which just costs more in petrol?? The space inside is amazing, my children are not yelling directly behind me anymore

Fantastic family car
We bought my Honda Odyssey VTiL in May 2015 brand new. We have 3 car seats installed for our small children.
The auto sliding doors are so convenient - no worrying about narrow parks, hitting other car doors & I can open them when my hands are full.
The seats are so easy to move and configure which makes accessing the rear seats ( where we have 2 of our car seats) simple and also allows adults to move around the back comfortably. The captains chairs are very comfortable. We chose the VTiL because of the captains seating.
The car drives ...Read more
well, it doesn't have a lot of guts but when your average speed is 31km an hour that doesn't really matter. The 360% cameras are a life saver & make getting into tight spaces easy. As far as "mini vans" go - this is the most stylish. The interior is gorgeous & the technology is awesome. The boot space is deceptively large as the space goes under the back seats & I can comfortably fit a pram and a $200 shop in there. If you have car seats in the back the anchor straps do encroach on the boot space & it would be good if they could make these points isofix like the captains chair seats. The rear seats are easy to fold down if you need more space & there is always enough space in the back for bags on the floor etc. After 12 months the car hasn't had a single problem & still looks and runs like new. I get about 500km to a tank give or take. This is a fantastic family car & I would definitely buy again. The VTiL is worth the extra money for the added features too.Similar opinion? Not Bad for People carrier like this.
I bought my Odyssey VTi December 2015, test drive to Sydney from Canberra 1 full tank return. Sliding door great for narrow parking, fuel excellent highway thirsty in urban, touch screen sometimes not responsive, need to keep pressing. Engine quiet so far. Speaker sound out put great, very spacious, 8 seaters & still more space for luggage.

We love it! - and, I have even have learned to love its few astonishing design flaws....
What a great family car 5/5. Yes, it has sliding doors like a van, might even look like a van to some, but it drives and behaves like a car with the benefits of a van based people mover. It has many brilliant features that make life in peoplemoveralia (if there is such a place) wonderful. My injured back is getting better because I can get 20kgs of sleeping kid in/out of the car really easily.
So what about those design flaws?
I'll start with a small one - the electric seat position motor (front seats) is way too slow. My wife is not tall...Read more
and I am above average, so she winds it right forward and I right back. If I need to jump in and go somewhere, I have to hold the seat switch and wait for an eternity before I can get into the car - that sucks especially if it is raining or I'm really in a hurry. The GPS/Moving map requires a smartphone. OK in theory, but not well implemented or supported by Honda. In my case every time Apple updates iOS(iPhone) the Honda app stops working. For the first 12 months it was basically unusable until Honda finally updated it with a version that worked properly ....nuff said. USB ports/cables attach directly above the centre drink holders. I spend my life untangling these from the drink holders, or I need to replace cables that have been bashed flat under a drink bottle. Honda could have provided a cable loop or channel to hold them up and away - but didn't....Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great 7 Seater
We picked up a single owner 2012 Honda Odyssey Luxury with 22,000 kms on the odometer. Clocked up another ~20,000 kms in the year we had it.
Many of the trips were interstate SYD-MEL, SYD-ADL, SYD-CBR 2-3 persons with luggage.
Highway fuel consumption was great but it did tend to get thirsty in city cycle.
Highway 7.2-8.17 L/100km
Urban 9.4-12.3 L/100km
The 2.4L petrol motor is a bit underpowered. We really only noticed this when overtaking or if contemplating darting into a gap in traffic - don't! ...Read more
Fit and finish was great and everything worked as it should. The car was very comfortable. Leather interior was easy to keep clean. The GPS worked flawlessly though with dated maps. As per usual, OEM map updates are horrendously expensive. We used a Garmin GPS or our phones when we needed to access newer maps. Ours had parking sensors front & rear plus the rear view camera. All handy as the Luxury has spoilers and skirts that are just a bit lower than the standard model. We found that the tow hitch would sometimes ground when entering steep driveways. We never used the sunroof. We never carried children so cannot comment on fitting child seats. We did have the Odyssey fully loaded with adult passengers on a number of occasions. The third row can be a little tight if passengers are over 175cm tall. The dual zone airconditioning helps keeping those in the back row comfortable. All servicing was done at Honda Waitara. No issues, fair prices and good service. We can definitely recommend the RB3 Odyssey.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Good family car
Bought 2014 (July) VTiL model on December 2014 and is so happy with this car. Researched for 6 months on 7 seat SUVs and decided to go ahead with this people mover as im not fussed about the 6 cylinder power. 2.4L DOHC i-VTEC engine is doing well if not heavly loaded but 7 adults ca comfortably travel. Clever thinking and advanced technology. Love the camera, blind spot monitoring, captains chair and park assist.

Don't have an accident in Odyssey VTi - L
Very nice vehicle. 2500km with driver and 5 passengers not a problem until.......Had a run in with a roo north of Perth. Damage to front grill, bonnet, one headlight and AC condenser. Had to wait 4 weeks fro repairer to get parts ex Japan. On re assembly repairer found problem with radiator - guess what - another 4 weeks (over the Xmas holidays) for delivery of radiator from Japan. NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Honda you should be ashamed of the parts service provided!
So, if you think you MAY have an accident DON'T buy a Honda Odyssey

2014 VTI Honda Odyssey
Great car, the sliding doors makes it so much easier for kids to jump in and out.
Fantastic interior compared to 80's style interior of its competitors.
Quiet to drive, the CVT transmission works very well, unable to feel gear changes !
The only negative is the VTI model only comes with X 1 remote key and X 1 service key.
Honda expect you to share your remote key with your partner !
If you don't like sharing you can use service key but have to manually key locks to lock / unlock car.
If you don't like that then additional key will cost $...Read more

Fantastic family car
We had an older Odyssey for ten years and upgraded to a 2012 Luxury in 2013. Very very happy with the new one; better donk and gear shifts, leather, sat nav, electric rear seat, sunroof, the list goes on. It's just a sexy car! The sat nav can be a bit weird (some times she says Left when she means Right) but she gets there and provides some entertainment haha. We also got lucky finding we had another 4 years warranty. Honda (our service dealer, not the one we bought it from) did a free handover inspection and even made a minor repair all on the...Read more

Excellent People Mover Option
Bought new in 2006 from Burswood Honda, and have been super impressed with both the car and the Dealer.
After some tough negotiating, we got the Honda for little more than the (old model) Carnival was selling for, and it was chalk & Cheese. The build quality of the Honda has been impeccable, despite the flogging it has received at the hands of my wife and kids.
Really cannot understand the comments from some about child restraints? Obviously if you fit fixed child seats to the 2nd row, you won’t be able to fold those seats down.

Good car but hopeless with child seats
We have the 2010 model which we bought new. It's hard to believe that year after year Honda fail to address the issue of child restraints. When I bought the car I had 2 kids in forward-facing restraints. Being a family car I didn't even think to ask about anchor points. Big mistake! The straps from the seats in the middle row have to go over the rear seats rendering the rear seats pretty much useless / dangerous to use. Plus you can't access the rear seats unless you unhook the restraint straps - or climb in through the boot. If you put anchor...Read more
points in deciding to use the third row of seats for your restraints you can't fold the back seats down to make boot space or they will be gouged by the anchor points. So the seats have to stay upright until you take the anchor out. There is virtually no boot space with the third row of seats up, and pretty much none at all if you have restraint straps crossing the boot space from the third row. The third row is squeeze and quite difficult to get in and out of, suitable for small adults or children but not elderly people or those with disabilities. Another issue, as previously mentioned, is the clock / CD display which is impossible to read in daylight. Servicing costs are horrendous.3 comments

an do this in a small hatch (and numerous other vehicles such as my sister's Ford Territory) why can't they do it on the Odyssey? It's such a shame because it really is a very good car otherwise. Now I have kids out of child seats I love it. jimchik - I'm glad it helped! Most 7 seaters struggle a little bit with boot space, but if you use child seats in the 3rd row you'll have no boot at all. If you had 3 kids side-by-side in the second row and the 3rd row folded flat you'd have good boot space (like a wagon) but wouldn't be able to comfortably use the 3rd row seats with straps in people's faces.Similar opinion? Nice to drive but some ergonomic issues
06 Luxury bought 2nd hand in 11 with 90,000 km's on the clock.
Handles beautifully. Drives just like a large hatchback really. Tight turning circle makes parking a cinch. Engine loves to rev, tiptronic auto means you can gear up and down like a virtual manual. Engine is spinning at about 2000rpm sitting at 100km/h so highway fuel economy is great (down to 7L/100km) Around town expect 12.5-13L/100km.
3rd row is powered so with the press of a button it transforms from a 5 to a 7 seater and vice versa. Can seat up to 175cm tall passengers ...Read more
in the 3rd row comfortably. Air conditioning vents for all three row is important. Has 6 airbags BUT lacks ESC and traction control. Lap only seat belt for middle seat in middle row. At least the side curtain airbag cover the third row. Ergonomic issue warning. There are 5 child anchorage sites but they are ALL in the rear if the car. Three in the roof and two in lower boot lip for the third row. Need to remove a cover approximately the size of a 20 cent piece then screw in an aftermarket anchor. Using the top tether anchor point cuts deeply into the head room of the 3rd row making them virtually unusable! Using the lower tether anchor points cuts deeply into the precious little boot space as a 7 seater making it virtually unusable. To sum up, if you need anchor points. Don't buy this car! Drives and handles well. Good highway fuel economy, relatively inexpensive as a second hand option nowadays. Anchorage points are illogically placed. The lower front spoiler scrapes steeper driveways and even some speed humps far too easilySimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Nice car shame about the donk
Nicely finished good turning circle but with all six of us in it it is very sluggish. Not sure why every place on earth gets it with a V6 but us, but they do and I'm not happy. My CX9 has far more grunt and luggage space so I'm skipping it for now. If CX9 ever comes with a diesel it will steal this segment but an Odyssey with a V6 would also be something to seriously consider. If you do most of you km by yourself but need the space on the odd occasion then just buy it.
Finish excellent and engine is smooth and quite
Does not cut it with a big load on board and lets face it that's it's fundamental purpose.

Disappointed for the price
I bought a 2010 model, and i have to say it was bought in haste as we were needing a people mover asap!
We looked at this car in the rain and as a result didnt pay a lot of attention to the finer more important details such as where child restraints would/could go etc.
First thing I noticed when we got home with the car was the viewing of the time display. It was near impossible to read the clock time during the daytime. There was no way of making it brighter so I didnt have to squint to read the time, and hence took valualbe safe eyesigh...Read more
t off the road whilst doing so. I took it back to the dealer who upon looking at it were baffled as to why that was the case and were surprised that there wasnt a switch of some sort to brighten it. .. So we put up with it. That was only a small issue, but my biggest one was when we tried to fit a baby seat into the car. As we also had other small children we needed to look at ease of access for everyone concerned. When we put the car seat on either the left or right side of the middle row, it meant that one of the back seats wasnt able to be used as it wasnt safe to have an extention strap over the head of anyone sitting at the back, so rendered that seat useless. If we put the car seat in the middle seat of the middle row, as it was a slightly raised seat (and being leather) the car seat was extremely loose and swayed from side to side very easily even though the straps were done up as tight as they could be. It is particularly worse in a rear facing car seat as there was more swing as the distance from the back anchor to the seat was longer.1 comment

great car, small turning circle, smooth engine, plush leather in luxury model. decent amount of space with seats 6/7 in use, enough for small stroller and bits and pieces on top. looks good (space ship as some ppl say) seating postions good and adjustment is great, so both wife and I can change to comfortbale position. Did struggle when fully loaded with about 160 -180 kg of camping geat at the back/in pd and 4 people in it when going up some hills.
nice feel, comfy, small turning circle.

I don't think so. Only in the two outside seats 2nd/middle row. Also be aware the top tether straps from the 2nd/middle row pass over the top of the 3rd row seats. You can easily fit 3 full harness kids seats across the middle row. Also finally, the 3rd row is the least safe in a car crash, it's listed in the handbook as being part of the crumple zone. So I'd consider it for occasional use only.
Hi thanks for the reply. I guess you're referring to the 8 seater version. That's a shame but makes sense given what you mention about the 3rd row being in the crumple zone. Makes the 7 seater option slightly less attractive, as without the 3rd row there are only 4 seats! So most people would be utilizing the 3rd row ( I imagine) with this 7 seater version.
That is strange about the 2nd row anchors. I always thought the anchors were located on the rear of the seat (so no obstruction/intrusion to the 3rd row seats).
Here in NZ the 7 seater is model name is L (or LS from 2018) and is the more expensive version. The 8 seater is the S and has fabric seats.
In Aus I think they are called VTI-L and VTI respectively.
