A very competent machine that performs as well as a very good 2 stroke.
We have 1.5 acres of ex cattle farm so all lawn related machines earn their keep. The UMK425 had a baptism of fire straight after purchase by doing 3 hours heavy use on long grass, weeds, woody weeds etc on a large domestic block. Next day it was used on my block for the usual tasks and I thought did the job with ease. The torque of the motor meant I do not need to use constant full throttle and as a result much quieter over long duration use. The slightly additional weight penalty (over similar 2 strokes) of the 4 stroke Honda was not that not...Read more
iceable to me. The tap and go line head on the Honda is excellent in use and makes for uninterrupted progress. Servicing: I changed the oil on Honda's after the first use and I cannot recommend that enough. Very simple procedure indeed. The oil was quite discoloured on first change, but on later use was nice and gold. As it holds only .08L oil is not a big deal and I will do as it slightly discolours in future. Starting procedure simple and air cleaner and spark access very simple. I cannot recommend the Honda enough and my much earlier doubts about power and weight penalty over 2 strokes have proved unfounded. The Honda has particular relevance on domestic blocks where screaming 2 strokes tend to spoil the tranquility during the weekend. Cost wise - I paid $499 for the machine from a Honda small engine dealer - yes, not the cheapest - but you get what you pay for. Longevity: I have a 19 year old Honda Buffalo mower that has needed nothing other than 2 spark plugs and air filters plus regular oil changes over that time. It is still in excellent condition and justified its price in the long term. I see no reason why the UMK425 will not give similar service.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

It works :-) but I'm not sure if it was worth the extra money over the bend shaft model
First of all I'm a noob when it comes to gardening and tools, initially I was going to buy the bend shaft model but after some research I settled on the straight shaft, it was $200 more expensive and I don't know if it's actually $200 better :-).
It works fine but I have issue with the line feeder, I'm pretty sure that it's my lack of knowledge/experience but so far I just manually pull out a bit more line with hands whenever it's needed.
From looking at some other brands/models, I can see that Honda has a very good quality and it's been put together solid and I hope that I wouldn't need to replace it for many years to come.

So good so far.
I was originally going to buy the ums425 but when I learned that a bent trimmer has a flexible drive shaft instead of a solid Rod drive shaft as in a straight trimmer, I upgraded to this one instead. The Honda dealer told me that in 15 years, he has never repaired the drive shaft of the bent ums425, but I just had a Victa bent/flexible shaft break, so I opted for straight model umk425 instead. Even though Honda seems to be reliable in both I didn't want to take the chance. I used it for the first time today and cut the grass on idle it was that...Read more
powerful. The 2 stroke Victa needed full throttle and going over again and again (sales guy said every 2 stroke normally needs full throttle) but this 4 stroke Honda cut it on idle first time. Big difference. Well worth the investment plus 4 year warranty minimum so I'm happy.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Like all Hondas, it does exactly what it should
I have been using a budget Homelite two stroke brush cutter for 6 years and told myself when it died I would get a decent four stroke honda one. The cheapo finally expired so I went and got the Honda for $500 on special at Haughton Honda. I wish I had done it years ago.
It starts on the first pull every time and runs so much quieter than my old two stroke you could almost get away without wearing earplugs.
I was slightly worried that the Honda wouldn't have enough grunt, only being 25cc and on paper it is low on power compared to two stoke eq...Read more
uivalents. The reality is the four stroke makes so much more torque that it absolutely scythes through everything. Half the time it's only running at half revs and nothing seems to slow down the RPM at all. The line spool feeder works really well too and takes seconds to open and reload. The supplied harness is comfortable and the unit is light - so the whole job is so much less of a chore. It takes about half the time and half the fuel it used to. I have a steep sloping 1200m2 block of native vegetation and it rips through everything. Stop thinking about it and spend the money - you'll be glad you did the first time you use it.

Pay more.. it's worth it.
My wife wanted a good brushcutter/whipper-snipper that she could use. Personally I regard them as 'instruments of the devil'. You know the story.. won't start, noisy, stops when hot, insufficient power, won't auto feed correctly, heavy, bad for your back etc etc. Bitter personal experiences from years ago. So I did a bit of research and opted for this model. Am I converted? Not quite, but close. So, it starts easily, it's relatively quiet compared to 2-strokes, it keeps on running after prolonged use (cutting 600m high heavy grass including tus...Read more
socks), it cuts well, the auto feed works as stated, it's relatively light, and my back was still ok after using it for a few hours. What's not to like? Well worth the extra money, and the added bonus is that my wife is happy to spend time whipper-snipping.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Awesome tool!
I am a 50 year old woman and I have had various petrol whipper snipper tools in the past and the main problem has always been starting the thing. This awesome tool does exactly what it is claimed it will do. Choke on tug, second tug and the thing is purring... music to my ears! It looks and feels well built. When you change the line it is straightforward and everything goes back easily. It cuts great and has a comfortable, adjustable balance. I've only had it a few weeks, but I felt compelled to write a review. I would recommend this as a great tool for women, mainly because of the ease of starting it and that despite being a four stroke, it is light to handle.

Unbelievable. Great machine.
I am 12 years old and that Honda umk425u made me cutting my neighbours lawns a breeze and it's so easy and so quiet. I would recommend this machine. I am owing up to Honda and am thinking to get a new mower from Honda
It's powerful and impresses my neighbours since it cuts so well. I really appreciate that Honda made such a wonderful trimmer.

Buy the best first time
Six months ago I purchased my second Honda only because I accidentally ran over my first one and totalled it. Some days I work these machines for a solid 6-7 hours an they never miss a beat. I bought a blade kit as well for slashing Guinea grass and it works really well. I can change over from blade to the cord head in a matter of minutes in the field. Have never had any issues with the bump feed head, easy to load and works well. I really abuse these machines some times but they just keep on performing. Best features- starts first time every time, quiet, fuel efficiency, and not too heavy.

Whip it good!
Waited a year to write this review because reactionary sprays when something brainlessly minor happens aren't much use to anyone. You have to live with it for a while.
After buying three of these for the local landcare group I bought one for me because they are so damn good. The commercial grade is a no-brainer for northern NSW properties where if you go away for a week in summer you're flat out finding your house when you get back.
The Honda starts first time unless it's a really cold day, has enough grunt to put a small truck in the sh...Read more
ade and will clear just about anything. It takes a variety of heads and can be used on any angle. Miserly on fuel as a multinational corporation is on workers' rights. The harness is well designed and the machine is dead easy to use. The brushcutter head that comes with it is a sharp piece of design. Its only flaw is if you aren't careful with how you load up the cutter filament, the auto feed jams. About 2m is heaps, any more becomes self defeating because you have to stop and reload the spool. Hint - if you're out in the paddock take the roll and side cutters with the fuel can. The upside - you can reload the head in a minute - great design.1 comment

Great highly recommended brushcutter
My old 35 year old Stihl FS80 had finally died and time to look for a new replacement. I had narrowed this down to the Stihl FS85R and the Honda UMK425. The Stihl was one of the German made ones and it was certainly built to last and a great machine, but parts are not too had to come by for something this old. After reading reviews and looking at the Honda and Stihl side by side I settled on the Honda and am glad I did. Slightly cheaper than the Stihl and slightly heavier with the 4 stroke motor but I felt a better machine and nicer balance. I ...Read more
have now done 10 hours with this and am very happy with the purchase. The motor is a delight to start, two easy pulls every time. Quieter than my old Stihl and has more grunt. I went for the loop hanndle this time as most of the work is around edges, rocks and steep banks. Much easier to manouver in these areas than the bike handle I had before and a bit of getting used to. I would still recommend the bike handle for flat areas of large area mowing. I have done the first oil change which very easy. The fuel capacity will allow for well over an hour before refilling. The bump feed head is very easy to respool although I do go through a lot of line, probably due to cutting around rocks. The head also doesnt tangle in reeds like the old manual feed on the Stihl. What I really like is the greater power at low revs. For light work you dont have to rev it hard and it cuts well withough the motor bogging down. With all my power tools I prefer quality and something that is reliable and will last rather than cheap junk. The UMK425 with its 25CC engine is more than enough for anything I will throw at it and no need to go for the larger engine unless a commercial contractor doing a lot of heavy stuff. I have also noticed that after an hour of work I dont get the tingly fingers like I used to get from the old Stihl and it is less tiring to use. Overall a well built and designed brushcutter and easy to use. The little 4 stroke is a lovely engine, fairly quiet, plenty of low down power and very responsive to the throttle.1 comment

Easy Start, Powerful Clean Running - Highly Recommend
I have owned several cheaper brand brush cutters that required excessive effort to start and lacked reliable performance. I decided it was time to treat myself to a good quality brand.
I did the research and decided on the Honda UMK425C.
The Honda starts with the first pull every time, even when cold, unless I’ve forgotten to turn the ‘stop’ switch on!! Yes, I’ve done that a few times.
The Honda runs clean, as it’s a 4 stroke and doesn’t require that smelly oil mixture. The Honda has very efficient fuel consumption.
The automatic bump cord...Read more

Best line trimmer I've bought
Brilliant buy. Starts 2nd pull when cold, 1st when warm. Powerful engine works hard and very efficient on fuel. Love the 4 stroke, no blue fumes getting up my nose! I change the oil and check it over in the winter and it's good for the spring/summer season. I'm moving everything over to Honda 4 stroke engines after this experience. So far: leaf blower, fire pump, chipper. Next lawn mower.

Great Machine All Year Round
Hi guys, I have been using the Honda brush cutters since they first entered the market and in fact I still have one of the originals in use now going on 17 years give or take, it still starts first pull every time and only replaced the spark plug twice.
The current machine I am using is the umk425 and in my opinion it has plenty of power for the job, great on fuel and though it seems heavy at first you will get used to it, by all means I recommend spending that bit more on this machine as you will get 20+ years out of it. Cheers!

Great Machine
Originally we had a Stihl FS80 which run out of time and was not a great machine but did the job, then we bought a Stihl FS90 as a replacement, which was a bad move, you need to read its review. After two or so months with the FS90 we bought a Honda, well the best move we did, as we are a small mowing business any down time is a bad thing, the Honda GX25 engine will give you a reliable bit of gear.
Now for a bit of the bad, our Honda is a little hard to start but when it starts it will run well, until we stop and refuel then the hard start ...Read more
again, but this is not a major problem and is still better than our previous machines. Well after FOUR YEARS of commercial use its still going, uses no oil between changes and blows no smoke at all, its a credit to the little GX25 engine, BUT YOU MUST MAINTAIN THEM, OIL CHANGES AND AIR FILTER. Anyone that has had a bad experience with Honda UMK425 should look at how they use it because they are a great machine. Today we bought another Honda, the UMC 435, a bit more power for the bigger jobs, Review coming soon.1 comment

Brilliant
Bought this machine nearly 5yrs ago and have been using it 5-7 times a week. Has never missed a beat. Not one. Easy to restring. Easy to clean spark plug air cleaner etc. Plenty of grunt for almost anything. Starts 2nd pull when cold and 1st when hot. Comfortable to use (I use it without the harness). Straight drive shaft is easy to get under trees etc and still light and manouverable enough for cramped areas. $500 well spent

Direct Comment from a Honda dealer. "wouldn't own one myself"
I've had my Honda for three years. It did work great until now. Suddenly hard to start and stops running when it gets hot. Took it to two Honda dealers who tell me that leaving petrol in it for long periods of time without using it causes problems with the carby, petrol becomes thick and clogs the jets. Apparently I am suppose to empty the tank of all petrol when I'm not using it. It's not written in the manual which I highlighted to them, their reply being the dealer is suppose to bring this to my attention as it's a known problem at Hond...Read more
a. Apparently not covered under warranty and now I'm up for a carby kit or new carby. Nice. For residential use, stick to a two stroke, you can leave fuel in them forever without a problem, it doesn't hurt any of my chainsaws or other two stroke motors....1 comment

4-Stroke Honda Brush Cutter Only Way to go!
After using Husqy's or Stihl's for almost 10 years I made the change to a 4-stroke Honda with bull bar handles all I can say is WOW! It is quieter, doesn't smell, is more economical, runs for longer without needing a break, my hands don't vibrate and it is easy to start!!! Anyone who says this is not suitable for commercial or large applications is incorrect I have used this at nearly all of my family members homes and use at least twice weekly on my 10acre property. Highly Recommended!!!! I purchased from The Honda Shop in Midland and received quality service and advice..... VERY HAPPY
Everything
Nothing Really... is slightly heavier than smaller 2 strokes well worth it!

Awesome brushcutter.
I bought one of these about a month ago, and I can only say positive things about it. It starts on the second pull when cold, and the first when warm; it has more than enough power for what I put it through (5 acres of hills with grass on average half a metre tall and very thick); it's very quiet, especially compared to my 14 year old Kawasaki 26 cc 2-stroke and produces absolutely no smoke; it's a bit heavier, but for the extra power, lower fuel consumption, no smoke, quietness and smoothness, it's well worth it.
Servicing is incredibly easy...Read more

Awesome brush cutter
Love this baby, super small 4 stroke engine, light and powerful, heaps of power and runs like a dream. Starts first pull and never gives me any problems. Recently I tried a cheapy brushcutter as my first 425 was stolen from the back my ute, so I purchased a Dingo off eBay, what a mistake that was, damm thing seized on me mid job. Tossed it away and bought another 425. I dont understand how they can make a 4 stroke this small and powerful, its quite amazing
Reliable and smooth running, heaps of power
