Tough and easy to apply
Painted a new blackbutt floor in my studio. After drying as per instructions the furniture was moved in without it scuffing or marking. The surface is tough, it doesn't mark and hasn't yellowed. It has been six months and I am extremely happy with the finish.
Purchased in March 2021 at Bunnings Warehouse.

Solid product which worked well for me.
Used ultrafloor to retore harwoord internal staircase. It worked really well and the boards look a treat. Did 4 coats leaving a full day in between coats and sanding in between with 240 grit. Have kept the family off it for a full week and the finish seems pretty hardy. Tried gouging with a key to little effect. Of course the real test will be how it stands up to 2 x <10yo.
Clean up was super easy. Overall pretty happy.
I wish they did a semi-gloss to more closely match my floors. I did buy the Ultragrip additive but didn't use it as i didn't want to dull the finish any further. Thankfully the steps aren't too slippery.

Not happy with end product
Used ultra floor on first and second coats, sanded and cleaned in-between coats and came up very well. Applied 3rd coat three days later in same temp as first 2. 3rd coat terrible, looked all mottled and looking like product separated. Submitted enquiry to Dulux and took much chasing up to get a return call despite sending photos and details of application. I was not looking to blame anyone but advice on how to rectify. ad been down for 25 years so that did not make sense particularly when coats 1 & 2 were perfect finish. I thought after spending nearly $1,000 on a top shelf product some more help would have been appreciated. I have now contacted an alternative product company for assistance.3 comments

Great for what I wanted....but...
I wanted a non yellowing waterbased for furniture that receives light wear - I wanted it to protect my chalk paint, which it does.
As I want the furniture to show light wear as it goes along, this product is great for me.
I can understand how others would be angry, though, as it does scratch easily with a light fingernail pressure, even after weeks of curing in warm, non-humid conditions. s ONLY my opinion from using it for other things. Let's say, I'd never use it for my floors! I'm irritated that the cans are only gloss and satin - I'd have like to mix a can of satin and a can of matte to get a low shine finish - honestly, the satin may as well be semi-gloss on two coats, and almost full gloss on more coats. It's great for doing small pieces that are decorative, or frames and such that see no wear and tear at all. I use my home-made chalk paint on a lot of things, and get a good protective net over the pieces with this stuff. Honestly, I'd not recommend it for high traffic/high wear areas.3 comments

If you had read my review correctly, you would see that I said the finish scratched - I did NOT say that my fingernail went through - two different issues. I doubt very much that anyone's fingernail would go through 4 coats of anything, unless initial adhesion was an issue. However, it will leave a mark, a scratch, a noticeable abrasion point in the light. I have not had that issue with some other polyurethane varnishes. I'd say I'm not the only one noticing this, given the other review comments on here. I have a bare wood trinket box that I finished with it more than 12 months ago... I just tried to scratch the back, and it does still leave a mark with just a fingernail, albeit much less of one than it did a few weeks after finishing. I'd say it was impractical for people to leave their floors unused for these lengthy periods in order to get a scratch free cure... weather is always a factor and in Australia we seldom have ideal application conditions. Alright in your lab there, but real life has it's own ideas. I do periodic scratch tests on all my refinished pieces. Where I live it gets very hot, and this stuff does get softer in the heat, in my experience, in any brand.Will K.Intergrain

Don't waste your time! Scratches beyond belief
After researching at length we decided to to give the water based option of ultra floor satin finish the job of protecting our refinished grey iron bark floors. After 4 coats per instruction we were thrilled with the look of the product. We waited 10 days before we moved anything, including ourselves onto the surface. We rolled the fridge back into position and realised we had scratched the surface in doing so. The fridge is large and heavy so we weren't blaming the product although we had waited longer than the prescribed time to move in items...Read more
. I resanded the scratches and purchased another 4 litre tin to add to the 2 or so litres I still had left. That's 24 litres of this liquid gold all in at this point, so we are quite invested financially. I reapplied the 'final-final' coat on the Wednesday before Easter as we were going away for the Easter break leaving the floor to cure. Today marks day 10 after the final- final coat we have only worn socks, not moved ANY furniture back in, our dog a medium sized breed who only comes inside in the evenings has walked an 8 mt path to the upper level, read we have not even moved back in and th scratches are worse than we experienced with 10 years of wear with the solvent based poly. I phoned the help desk at intergrain today in the hopes they may be able to offer advice on a hardening additive that I could add to the final - final - final coat. Unfortunately there are no hardening options for the water based. I discussed my experience as relayed above in particular mentioning we were yet to move back in furniture and worried about the scratches chairs etc would offer. They suggested I take photos (but it might take a week for them to get back to me) and while the woman was helpful and professional she was quite frank that should a rep come out and see a dog that they would suggest the scratches be part of living with timber and pets. She also advised if it were her she would have chosen the oil based option. So right now I have finished -5 coats- with surface scratches very visible and we aren't back in the space. Kitchen is due to be installed in 4 weeks and the suggestion from intergrain was - A -get more and apply another coat, and regularly maintain with polish (leave the dog outside, said as a joke - but I think they really mean it). or B - re sand all 5 coats off and refinish with a solvent based option. I am completely broken by this whole experience. With the kitchen deadline looming I'm at a real loss as to what to do. I am $711.00 in for floor finish at this point and this final final final coat will add another $153.00 for the 4 litre tin required to do the job. Or if I go with option B - I am up for the resanding and new finish $$$ If you were wondering why I went water based in the first place, I didn't want the timber colour to yellow as the previous solvent poly had done. This reason and the fact that intergrain spruiked the ultra floor as there premium flooring finish. Do not finish your floors with this product And intergrain if you read this and fancy refunding me some money please feel free to do so. f Bona's staff based in Melbourne. He was very helpful, was familiar with the ultrafloor product and not surprised by the result we had. He was professional and got all the quantities I had used and calculated the product to gauge my coverage. He suggested an 'overcoat' method since we had not yet moved any furniture (with the exception of the fridge) back onto our floors. This product was very $$ I spent another $700 :() but let me tell you you totally get what you pay for in this case. I collected the product from the Oakleigh depot (to save a bit in delivery cost). I followed the instruction on the Bona Australia website regarding overcoating - lightly abrading with 240 grit paper on a pole vacuuming all dust and then generously coating. Generously is the key here- this product has excellent self levelling qualities so lay it on quickly, consistently and keep moving...don't over work it. So we are 4 months down the road and we have not experienced any minor or major scratches. The floor feels silky smooth even though we went for the ultra matt finish. 3 coats and 21 days drying time and you can scratch it with a light touch of finger nail
This product is so disappointing - we loved the look it gave - but it is suppose to be durable, but the slights thing scratches it so easily :( gentler run your finger nail, move a poof on the floor - just so disappointing for and expensive product. Previous product we used last 10years with less scratches then we have had in a week - no kids just 2 adults

week. The answers you needed include - 1st coat went on 19/02 - 2nd coat 24 hours later, 3rd coat went on the 22/02. We move furniture back on the 10/11 of feb. sq meters is approx 60sq. We used a 10litre can. Applied with paint brushes.Will K.Intergrain

Easy to apply but oh my god it stains.
Easy to apply, dries quick . Quite hard wearing
But - it's stains beyond belief . Any black rubber :ie chair feet /castors leave yellow marks . Doesnt clean off and has to be sanded back. Has allowed timber leaching and tinted my white floor paint yellow /pink after applying this product . They where crisp white before application, even after following vendor instruction. I have painted 5 rooms floor boards white and each time it's this product that has dicoloured it in some way . But I need it for the paint protection.

Rubbish - avoid at all costs
I purchased this to refinish my kitchen floor with the best finish possible. Given that this product is double the price of oil based poly you would hope to see good results. Not the case. This was an absolute disaster on a floor that had been sanded to bare wood with yellow discolouration coming through the finish. I am now in the position of having to strip this floor again because of this terrible product. I would strongly advise against ever using this product.
I will give it credit for being hard however, as I try to strip it off.

Be Aware of Issues
I used Ultrafloor wanting best possible long lasting finish. Following all tips and instructions I sanded Cyprus Pine timber floor and removed any sap residue with 'Metho'. The floor is 30 years old and solid so no movement issues. I laid 3 coats of Ultrafloor and all appeared fine. Five weeks later it is lifting and peeling at edges between planks. After calling tech support at Intergrain I was told this is movement of wood due to NSW weather. So in essence don't use on any solid wood flood as the product is so brittle when set it cannot withs...Read more

I used Ultrafloor to coat a new spotted gum floor (seasoned timber). Applied three coats with minimum 36 hrs between coats, also sanding lightly and wiping with metho between coats. Four weeks after curing the coating is peeling at some board joints and also in patches with the slightest friction. What to do?

UltraFloor can take up to 7 days to fully cure in perfect conditions. For something as heavy as a fish tank, it might be worth waiting 14 days to make sure your flooring is totally cured and ready for such weight.
