Lives up to my expectations
Can't fault the economy averaged 7.6 ltr per 100klm room and comfort is good. The rear floor entry is a bit high, easy controls to use. Reliability is excellent though was expected from this proven engine. Performance it can get up and go if you want it too, I have the 2wd wish i could have afforded the 4wd thinking long term reliability that's why i got a mu-x.

Great, with a few caveats.
Love the MUX. Overall a great car. Good view out, especially looking out the rear passenger side as a driver trying to see oncoming traffic.
The negatives...
We have a terrible wind whistle which we can’t find. Painful. Anyone have an answer??
Road noise is high.
Turbo lags a bit.
The rear storage unit is so tiny, almost worthless.
The ride seems to float along, bouncy is how I would describe it.
Would we buy again? Yes. If only we could stop the wind whistle!!

Love our latest addition Isuzu MUX
Love our MUX, can not fault anything. Our grandchildren absolutely love Grandpa's car, especially the dvd player. They think they are so cool when grandpa picks them up from school in the Isuzu. We have fun watching the grass grow and have one tree starting (an app that tells you how you are travelling ecomonically). Dealership was fantastic Harrison Isuzu, Shane sales manager and Johnathan salesman.

After some disappointing cars the MU-X is by far the BEST car I have owned
After owning several below average vehicles from new over the years, I have finally found one I am very happy with.
The MU-X 4WD ticked all my boxes in the car I wanted, and after 18 months, I wouldn't swap it.
I was after a 4WD I could take off-road, that was reliable, economical, and without the big price tag that usually comes with the Toyota's or Nissan's. Although I can service a car, I am no mechanic so reliability was my main criteria, as I intend to go outback touring. The Isuzu is renowned for it's reliability, and there are very few...Read more
issues reported online compared to other makes and models. The car was new from the dealer and I added a Bull Bar, Warn 9,500lb winch, snorkel, 2 inch lift, and my best addition, a replacement 125 litre long range tank, all for around $60,000. When compared with other Mid sized 4WDs, I couldn't even come close to the $60,000 price after adding all the extra's. Personally I find the car comfortable to drive, and much quieter than my previous 2014 Challenger. The thing I notice the most was that even though the Challenger on Paper was more powerful, the MU-X seemed to cruise with less effort and noise. The Challenger with it's smaller engine seemed to rev much harder to get the same amount of power. This was also very noticeable when towing. The MU-X towed my caravan much more effortlessly whereas the Challenger really struggled. After driving around with the extra couple hundred kilo's of accessories I am averaging 9.1 litres per 100km, and while towing a 1500kg caravan I averaged 12.5 litres per 100km. (I do however drive conservatively) I am not one for all the fancy interiors which some of the higher priced cars have, but the MU-X is more than adequate for my purposes. I just needed something that was practical for 4WDing. Leg room is excellent, and you are not forced to sit too close to the steering wheel. The car has not missed a beat and I average 30,000km a year in my cars. For those who are interested, off-road the car performs more than adequate. If you are looking for a serious hard core machine, then look elsewhere, but if you want a 4WD tourer that is capable to do the odd river crossing or the occasional rough 4WD trail, then this maybe the vehicle for you.

Great car, terrible customer service.
I bought the ISUZU MU-X over a Prado because of the 5 year warranty. I've had two warranty claims with terrible service/communication from the dealer at Chullora. They have repeatedly lied to me, don't seem to know the vehicle (didn't know where the fuel pump was). They tell me it will be ready, don't answer their phones and then I find out it's not ready when I try to pick it up (this happened 6 times for the one warranty claim).
Now my GPS/stereo is broken. I took it in for a service they said new one was order and they would call me when...Read more
it is ready. After 4 weeks I call them, they forgot to record the serial number needed to order a new one (they had previously told me it was already ordered) and I need to take the car back in for a day so they can remove the unit, then I will need to take it back in a third time when the new unit arrives. They should have called me when they realised that they had stuffed up the first time. They are so hopeless that the guy at the service desk admitted that customers need to chase them as they don't call people back. The 5 year warranty would be great, if you can actually get the vehicle fixed. I've had poor service at a few other ISUZU dealers as well but Heartland at Chullora takes the cake. ISUZU Australia, great vehicle I should be on my second by now, but you need to teach your dealers about customer service. The dealer at Geraldton was fantastic, send him around Australia to your other dealers.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

love the car - few things to fix at service time
* km left until i have to fuel up
changes dramatically
e.g 1 minute i might have 500km left
it changes to 600 then 300km
*usb mp3 music going blank and screeching after half hr
* car pulling to right
* cruise control -car is changing back gears and revving dangerous.

Radio problem took 6 months to resolve
Driving experience is good. Like the suspension, like the steering quality, fuel economy has been great. Havent towed yet but am confident it will do a great job. However, a problem with the radio fading in and out reception wise, quality of sound and tuning problems because of the poor reception, the fact that it took 6 months to fix the problem, my doubts about whether some of the work supposedly done to fix the problem was actually carried out, all these things were extremely frustrating and stressfull cost me a lot of time and money...Read more
in trips to and from 2 dealers. 2 dealers were involved because the dealer i bought from had staff problems and couldnt look at the vehicle for a month. I bought from hampstead gardens, took the mux back several times, the radio was changed once the aerial once, checked for loose connections and everything else supposedly then i took vehicle to port wakefield rd waterloo corner road where radio was changed, aerial was changed, connections etc checked again, since told though that only one of these aerial changes was logged on the computer. The service assistant tried to get the matter resolved without success, got the area service nnanager(based in perth involved) via email and requested he contact me via email (didnt happen) dissapointing all he did was suggest changing the aerial. An aerial was ordered and in meantime i went back to gampstead vardens (smaller dealership and i think better service). New aerial obtained from port wakefield rd dealer. I requested that nanager from hampstead gardens become involved which he did and agreed to take vehicle and drive it for several days to experience all the problems. Aerial obtained from port wakefield rd dealer and fitted at hampstead gardens have now driven car for a week and problem appears to have been fixed. Why didnt previous aerial changes not fix the problem, surely 2 or 3 other aerials cant be faulty. Until the nanager got involved i was getting nowhere except very annoyed. Still like the vehicle overall though.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Very happy owner after 2 years
Very happy with our purchase. Great after sales service. We feel valued as customers. Reliable, tows well. Basic interior - which is very much a plus for us as we have kids. Easy to park but fits all we need. Flexibility of use. Exceeded our expectations, very happy to recommend.

Great vehicle but weird beeping
Has anyone had a problem with an intermittent beeping (single 1 second beep) with a MUX (MY15)? It seems to be activated by opening the rear cargo door. It then occurs the next few times that either the rear cargo door or driver's side door is opened then goes away. When it happens, a 'CHECK SYSTEM' message appears on the driver's display. It has occurred with motor running and not running, key in close proximity to vehicle and not. Dealer has checked it but cannot replicate the problem. I'm trying the spare key at the moment to see if it's related to that.
Apart from this, the MUX is a great vehicle - on road and off road.

Noisiest car I have ever owned
I like the car but am VERY disappointed with the noise from the engine. One friend said it sounds like a B52 Bomber. Another said it sounds like a Tractor. Not exactly the kind of remarks I'd expect from a brand new car. I am actually embarrassed to drive it.

Very good SUV / Tow vehicle
Bought in 12/2017 to tow 2.6Tonne van. Discovered the Isuzu towbar is not rated for load levelling equipment. To have a 3000k/300k bar without load levelling ability and rating shows a lack of understanding of towing safety. The Commonwealth Trailer Building code cautions against using load levellers with a non rated towbar. This vehicle to tow near its limit needs a little help in the rear suspension and Hayman Reece gear or similar. Have replaced Isuzu towbar with Hayman reece bar and fitted Firestone HP airbags to rear springs. This vehi...Read more
cle is now a very stable and economical tug [13L:/100k towing 2.6t] It performs better that the engine stats indicate. It is at least the equal of any of its competitors, albeit with a few less gimmicky bits that I can live without The supplied battery is old technology and too small. It has been replaced by a maintenance free larger battery. The so called smart alternator is not tow friendly [as with all new vehicles] and it needed a DC/DC converter to help charge the AGMs in the van. In spite of these shortcomings it is now up to the standard of performance and safety I need. Based on price, performance and economy, I recommend it as a very good buy. Dont buy the Isuzu bar, the rated Hayman reece is cheaper, and you will be conforming with the Trailer Code. As normal transport it is comfortable, economical and pleasant to drive. It is quieter than its earlier model. .Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Beware of the Isuzu towbar
In 2014 we purchased an MUX and we are very happy with it however we brought the car to tow a 22ft caravan. We had an Isuzu towbar installed. Last year on out travels the towbar completely snapped as it was rusted through. The caravan came off the car. We were very lucky we were about to set up for the night when this happened. We could have been killed or someone else could have been killed if we were on an open road. The dealership informed us there was no warranty cover as we had a weight distribution system on the caravan. We were never tol...Read more
d about this. Isuzu would not honour the warranty. In our travels a lot of caravaners use the same system in their Isuzu DMAX or MUX. Is Isuzu going to wait until someone is killed before doing something about this problem. I contacted a specialist towbar dealership who advised me in writing that I could use stabilisers if I wanted an Isuzu towbar fitted. How many Isuzu owners with this towbar are risking serious injury or even death. please be sure to get your facts before purchasing an Isuzu.Purchased in September 2021.

The MU-X mechanically with his four-wheel drive options and it's looks with its leather interior are amazing although it's slightly heavier on the steering then some smaller vehicle such as the Captiva and the CX 9 Trail Blazers outlanders Ford Territory and others in this class it's still quite an amazing Drive I do not seem to mind the slightly truckie feel it definitely gives you a sense of power with no problems tackling day today Road use and Hills it comes with a warranty on the interior for life and the exterior paint also has a life war...Read more

Great vehicle. Love it. Yes I would buy another one.
Purchased as a demonstrator from Blue Ribbon Motors at Ipswich. Great service and very helpful.
It's a great commuter. I am a tall person (196cm). It has heaps of room for my frame. Very economical, heaps of power. Love it. Very Quiet compared to my Wife's Hilux.
Four things I don't like
1: The leather seats don't have very much support. I rate them as bit worse than the drivers bucket seat in a Toyota Hilux Workmate (the poverty pack version).
2: The doors auto-unlock as soon as you turn the car off.
3: The cruise control does not always ...Read more

BRILLIANT (SO FAR)
Date of delivery 12 Dec 17 - Ferntree Gully Isuzu
If you believe it is both common courtesy and professional not to forget a customer after the contract has been signed and vehicle delivered then you should find Ferntree Gully Isuzu to be very courteous and professional as I have to date.
Other reviews about the softness of the suspension are correct, however, you quickly get used to this quirk and a proper driving technique more than compensates for a soft suspension. I am informed by wealthy friends the NAV system is a bit dated and “...Read more
clunky” compared to more modern systems on far more expensive vehicles. However, it does the job as well as Google maps from my observations to date. Fuel economy is great and the vehicle has achieved about 7.5 litres per 100km on a mix of country, freeway, off the black top, suburban, and peak hour grind for the first 7000 km. It had a bull bar, tow bar, and snorkel fitted prior to delivery. I have not yet needed to engage 4WD high or low yet which would no doubt affect fuel consumption. The DPF cleans itself without fuss every 500 plus km and the process takes less than 10 minutes regardless of speed / driving conditions from my experience. Potential buyers would be well advised to read what some Toyota owners are saying about their experiences with DPF self cleaning / regeneration on this website and more concerning, the Toyota response, or lack thereof. I would also recommend you do your research on “Ad blue” before you buy a vehicle using that. Sales staff do not mention it all while you are researching what vehicle is best for you.Similar opinion? Great tug but a weird wind whistle and ‘floats’ along.
Just got the 2016 MU-X. It pulls the new 21’ caravan very well, even without the Haymen Reece on. Fuel eco is OK. I do have three concerns.
1. The rear boot space is tiny, I am used to X-Trail or Prado type drawers and space. I might have to rip out the third row of seats.
2. There is a strange wind (?) noise. Comes and goes, but seems to not be speed determined, rather wind speed and direction. VERY annoying and if you know how to get rid of it, email Tiwassie2 at gee mail dot com. PLEASE!
3. When it is driving along unladen, it ‘floats’. S...Read more

Troubles not being fixed by dealer
The car is great, easy to drive, economical and a great tow vehicle. It performs well in all conditions. Only let-down is the navigation system, the maps are outdated and dealer hasn't upgraded them, even though they have been requested to do so well before the 3 years were up; this was a complimentary service offered by Isuzu before the 3 years were up. Now Isuzu are saying it is our responsibilty at retail cost to get this done! NOT GOOD ENOUGH

Just excellent
I bought my MUX new in May 2016 and have done 80,000 km since. It has not given me one scrap of trouble in that time. It is comfortable, economical and reliable. I mainly use it for work but we towed a 2 tonne caravan from Brisbane to Adelaide and back in the middle of Summer last year without any hassles at all, averaging 13.5 l/100km on the trip. My only complaints are that the suspension (particularly front) is soft and under damped, and the unguarded fuel tank and exhaust appear to be more vulnerable off road than on its d-max cousin (wh...Read more
ich has a fuel tank guard). Also I believe that the scheduled 20,000km interval between oil changes is too long for a diesel (I get oil and filter changed at 10,000km). Overall though, highly recommend.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Isuzu Mux, forget the rest
We purchased a Dmax in 2015 for a company car and compared to the other items out there absolutely loved it. Our family car was recently showing its age and needed some money spent on it so we decided to go with the MUX. You can’t get better for value for money compared to the others and it’s more refined than the Dmax (eg lower engine noise) that keeps the wife happy. We are now a Isuzu family and are looking forward to years of trouble free motoring ahead.
