trick to fix
You can stop a machine from walking by placing it on some of that rubberised matting that is used in cutlery draws. I have not used this machine but have had over 50 years of sewing experience.

Sewing Machine
I purchased my Janome sewing machine approximately 3 years ago. It has never let me down. I just love using this machine. I do simple mending, attempted all the different stitches, added attachments and the machine has always stood up to the work I demand. I taught my granddaughter to sew on this machine and she loves it also (she is 8), so much so that when she comes to visit and I am using my Janome, she wants me to use my old machine so she can use my Janome. LOL, but we do give in don't we. Getting back to the sewing machine, I would like to add that the machine is so easy to use, even the new sewers in our group love the feel of the machine. Easy to clean also. I hope my Janome lasts me many years as did my previous machine.
Purchased in February 2021 at Airport Toyota Service Centre.

Awful
The worst machine I’ve ever owned. It’s noisy and it moves all over the table. I couldn’t go full speed because it would’ve fallen off the table, very annoying to thread. I would strongly advise that you don’t buy this machine. It’s not my first overlocker but definitely the worst. Thank goodness I could get my Elna fixed.

Hint on threading
I have had a Janome overlocker JL 603 and still love it for 42 years and today just bought a new one... Here is a threading hint Don't unthread it just pull a little extra off the cone or real and tie the next cotton on and run through But you do have to rethread the needles only because the knot won't go through Saves time and headaches

So far, fantastic!
I have written a review of the sewing machine that I purchased as part of a package deal with this overlocker. I have only had these a week so I really need more time to do a proper assessment. I'd like to see how I feel about them in 12 months time. However, straight out of the box, this works like a dream and has handled the fabric beautifully. I have not yet tried the 'tricks' it can do but so far, it's a very smooth running machine and much faster than the 30 year old overlocker I've just retired!

A little powerhouse of awesome
I bought this as I have always owned Janome sewing machines and this was a great offer by Craft Depot.
Yes the Overlocker is a little intimidating at first, but after taking lessons (your dealer offers them free) I am thrilled. Yes, it takes patience to thread, there are a couple of tricks I learned in how to make this so much easier. My machine stands up to the work I put it through (lots and lots) and keeps on humming. Great machine, Great price

It's amazing, with a couple of tricky bits
I have a Janome sewing machine that I totally love so decided that I would also go with a Janome overlocker. For the most part I love it. The machine came threaded but I had to set the tension. I spent a good 1-2 hours trying to get it right and used it for sometime with the white thread that it came with. Then I had to change to black. When I purchased it the lady gave me a quick demo on how to change thread without totally re-threading the machine which was very helpful. I then had to spend another hour or so playing with the tension to get i...Read more
t right as the setting I had previously had (which I wrote down and re-set the machine to after changing the thread) were not giving the best result. I have had a thread snap which I had to re-thread and it was tricky, but I knew it would be and got there in the end. Great machine, but tension can be a bit of a pain. Re-threading is tricky on almost all overlockers so can't really complain about that :)Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Good and not so good.
Wasn't too sure as to whether I needed an overlocker, so went for the fairly basic model. I now know that I would be totally lost without the overlocker - it saves so much time and of course gives a better finish to clothing. I LOVE what it does. The only downside to this machine, is the level of difficulty in threading it. Three of the four aren't too hard, but one is extremely difficult to get to. When the threads broke the first time I was beginning to regret having ever bought it, but have learnt a way to make it a bit easier. Maybe th...Read more
e dearer over lockers are easier to thread? Does tend to make a bit of a mess when being used, but can live with that because of the end result. I would suggest that if you haven't used an overlocker before, do have lessons. I "eventually" worked it out, but it is soooooo different to a sewing machine, and there were times that I thought I would never work it out.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Perfect until it needed rethreading / needle replacement
This is my first ever overlocker. It arrived threaded in the box, and ready to go with a good instructional DVD. I have used it for everything and now wonder how I have lived without it for so long. My mother advised me (very sensibly) to replace the thread before it ran out by pulling the new thread through the feeders with the old thread (if that makes sense). I did that with my first reel of thread (the red one) - so far, so good. My problems began when the green lower thread ran out. I spent several hours attempting to thread and rethread t...Read more
he machine with the thread continually undoing when I started sewing. Finally, after rethreading the whole machine a few times, it worked. However in the process, I bent a needle (when I was testing the thread). So... I have now replaced both needles and the second (longer) needle will not remain threaded when I start sewing. I don't know how it unthreads in the middle of sewing, but it does. As I said, this is my first overlocker, and I was warned that they are temperamental, but I've probably spent 3 hours troubleshooting on this in the 6 months I've owned it. Sews beautifully, smooth, pretty easy to rethread (but doesn't necessarily stay threaded) re-threading the machine appears to be a fine and practice art1 comment

Questions & Answers
Shirleyasked
I'm interested in a Janome 8002DX. Does anyone have a recent review on one. All the reviews I've read are old & people are having trouble with Treading & Tension.
1 answer
Hi Shirley, my review is very recent as I purchased my Janome 8002DX earlier this year. I haven't had any issues with threading and I find it very easy. Obviously there is a learning time involved but there are very clear graphics inside the cover to assist. On the issue of tension, I mostly have no issue with it at all. Once I have the tension right for regular overlocking, I don't find I need to alter it. The only time I did need to adjust it was when I tried out the blind hemming function, which didn't really work at all. I decided that blind hemming was better on my sewing machine instead, but still needs some work to get it right. The tension does need to be altered very slightly for different types of fabrics, but this is to be expected. If you follow the extensive manuals provided, you shouldn't have any issues. They provide a regular manual that tells you about all the parts and basics and a second manual that shows you how to create all the different stitches. I am still very happy with this overlocker and am delighted for the price and what it does. I hope this is helpful :)

What about if you live hundreds of miles out in the bush? Has anyone found a link on youtube maybe? I can't afford to spend $$ if I can't use it!! Debbie

If you live in the bush (Australia) then Draft Depot could deliver to your door. Janome Australia has "How to videos" http://www.janome.com.au/learn_videos.php?muid=lsew
Plus there are so many YouTube tutorials available, e.g: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pSRH6ldom4
or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOzqtC7pURg
Hope that helps =)
Ooops, I meant Craft Depot

Had to re thread the green looper and after I had done that, the machine keeps snapping the RH needle. Don't know why. Any advice would be appreciate?
1 answer
The needle threads need to be replaced last so as not to run under the loopers, which will cause the thread to break in middle of sewing. Even if needles don't need rethreading you still need to cut them at the needle (carefully pull out a longer length so that you do not lose the ends) and re-insert into needles after loopers are done. See Nancy Zieman's "Serge with Confidence" or similar guides for practical advice and inspiration.
