Janome 8900 QCP SE (Special Edition)
Having owned many Janome machines over a lot of years, the 8900 SE has been the best of all. It is extremely user-friendly and overall, a no-fuss machine that never fails to please. While it is promoted in the quilting range of machine with an 11" freearm, it is equally as appealing to any home sewist no matter what you wish to sew. Mostly I make clothes and home dec items but have just made a couple of handbags and a lined hat for Winter and the 8900SE never hesitates on any fabric or project. bulky items. At 1000 spm (stitches per minute) it won't take all day to sew things either, but on the other hand it will also go stitch-by-stitch with great precision. Speed can be controlled by a slider switch on the front or via the large foot pedal...this new large foot pedal is great and allows you to use either foot without having to move it. If you prefer to ditch the foot pedal that's Ok too, because the stop/start button is yet another option and within easy reach along with reverse, lock stitch, needle up/down and thread cutter (scissors). Needle up/down can also be adjusted in the Settings menu along with heaps of other personal settings so the machine is tailored to how 'you' want to sew. The extra long freearm (11") is very useful as is the LED lighting and of course, the adjustable knee lift is great when you want to keep your hands on your project. The automatic sliding buttonhole foot (R) now has a stabiliser plate to use when stitching a buttonhole in an uneven area, such as top buttonhole on a shirt where the collar and/or facings combine to make the surface uneven...attach the stabiliser plate to even out the surface. There are 11 built-in auto buttonholes including a welted buttonhole and The needle thread cuts perfectly 'every' time and pulls thread tails to the back. This model does a 9mm wide stitch that is 5mm long and 270 built-in deco stitches with 3 alphabets. Auto tension and 7 piece feed dog system is yet another great feature and the detachable Acufeed foot holder where you can attach a variety of different foot plates is 'the' best! You will never need a clunky walking foot again. The free-arm storage unit, when in place, gives a large flat surface for sewing not to mention it's a great place to store the accessories but feet can also be stored under the top lid. A good assortment of feet and accessories comes as standard with this machine, the SE is an upgrade of the previous 8900 and denoted by the 'Special Edition' logo on the front, bottom right of the machine. It has a soft blue faceplate too whereas the 8900 has several colour options.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
