Worth the money if you have multiple places to visit.
We're a family of 4 and travelled to multiple cities over 2 weeks so well worth the money as it covers both tbebullet and express trains which are great. Only point of note is it doesn't cover the metro subways, but they're relatively cheap anyway.

Definitely worth the money!
Purchase and delivery of the Rail Pass were trouble free.
The rail pass is very handy to have if you plan to travel to a few different places whilst in Japan.
I usually check prices of train fares on Hyperdia before I travel to see what is the cheapest option (Rail Pass or Pay as you go).
JR run train services just about everywhere. There may be the odd time where you need to pay for a subway ticket but it still ends up being cost effective to have the pass.

No issues encountered
We experienced no issues and the service was fantastic.
Only suggestion is that make it better known that the rail pass can be used for travel to Narita airport on the express train.
Otherwise a great product and very well done.

Great pass. Easy to use!
Very easy to use. Valid on most lines through Tokyo but we also had to buy a fair few extra rides. Maybe the passes should include local lines as well. It would have been a bit faster to have some sort of electronic ticket too rather than having to show the attendant every time we went in and out of the gates. All in all, Japan trains are excellent. They are always on time, always clean, quiet, easy to navigate and safe. We loved the shinkanzens too!

Super useful, if a bit old fashioned
If you plan to move around the country, it is invaluable. The shinkansens are brilliant. If you are intending to just stay in one major city, it may still be useful, but be careful to check first if the JR lines run near where you will be staying. There are areas in Tokyo for instance where the nearest JR line is a 30 minute walk.
Also, JR passes are paper, and the vast majority of ticket gates are electronic. This means you can't use the automatic gates, but need to use the human attended gate at every location. Some stations set up a seco...Read more
nd well signed gate for JR pass holders in a effort to relieve the congestion, but not all. It seems weird and a little annoying that for a country with such a sophisticated electronic public transport system that these passes have not been modernised. Also if you lose or destroy your paper (actually cardboard) pass, it cannot be replaced.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Don’t travel without one!
We just spent 12 days in Japan, travelling from Shinjuku to Hakuba, back to Tokyo then Kyoto and Osaka and lots of day trips in between thanks to the JR Pass. The staff were also very helpful and trains on time and clean.

Money well spent
There is nothing I can find with the service that disappointed me. The trains were easy to use. They were clean and they were on time. A very effective way to travel around.

Great value and such an efficient system
Japan rail pass was so worthwhile for us.
Only criticism was the paper based system, would be better if the pass itself could be issued electronically eg a QR code like an electronic boarding pass

Great way to get around Japan when travelling to different areas
The pass covers a lot of areas outside Tokyo and saves you money if you are travelling around to different parts of Japan. We covered the snow monkeys in Nagano, back to Tokyo, then to Kyoto, Hiroshima, Fukuoka and back to Tokyo. It was well worth it and easy to use, just show your pass at the gates to staff. Easy to cash in voucher at the airport for the passes then on our way.

Fantastic Value
Planning your trip can lead to maximum value but even if you are not completely organised it is still good value. Apart from the value Japan Rail is easy to use with helpful information and ticket offices. I was concerned that it would be difficult. How wrong I was.

Very happy with my refund
All I would say is that the express post highlighted on the website is not a true express post. Also for customers Australia Post does not track parcels accurately and the scanning of parcels only happens at start and finish of delivery. This is frustrating when your waiting for an important parcel. May I suggest option of express courier.

Super efficient
We purchased JR pass from overseas to be used when travelling in Japan. Easy to purchase and travel between Kyoto, Tokyo and Nozawa Onsen. The tickets were posted to my hotel address in Japan on time. When my iPhone was lost on the train between Nazawa Onsen and Tokyo it was recovered and posted to my hotel efficiently.

We used JR-Pass for a Shinkansen return trips between Tokyo and Osaka, express train lines between Osaka and Kyoto, and some JR lines in Tokyo and Osaka. Really worth the money.

Convenient and great value
We found the process of using JRPASS was much simpler and easier than Eurail pass. We saved time and money. No extra paperwork required. We used JRPASS to travel between Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara, Hiroshima and Nozawa.

Good value
If you are travelling to several areas in Japan, the JR Rail Pass is good value as trains are expensive. The trains are very comfortable, clean and punctual. The Japan Rail Pass Now company was very efficient in delivering the vouchers for the passes and they provide useful information about how the system works.
Two issues we found were: 1. You cannot book seats before you get your actual pass and are in the country with your passport. This can present a problem if you are travelling in peak times. 2. You cannot use the super fast (ie. non stop) Shinkansen trains on major routes, we could still use Shinkansen trains but they tended to have a few stops. This is not a big problem but it does limit your choice of trains.

Great value
Provided great value for money for our travel to south of Tokyo. Very easy to organise - the only negative was the line up at the airport to get our Pass on arrival however we were warned that this may take some time with the information provided with our Exchange Ticket

Good pricing, superfast turnaround, easy to apply, very informative. Ideal!
Takes the pain out of JR Pass application with a one-stop application and payment process, good information on how it works and what to do to collect on arrival and a very fast mail service to get your paperwork to you as soon as possible. Highly recommended.

A wonderful purchase and a matchless train experience
The Japanese rail pass (green pass, so we could reserve tickets) was almost the best thing about visiting Japan. It makes travel incredibly easy; the trains are ALWAYS on time, clean and well-appointed. Fantastic value and a fantastic experience!
