Jeep Grand Cherokee WH (2005-2010)

The WH Grand Cherokee has left me scratching my head on a few occasions. I have owned several Jeep's over the years including a WG Grand Cherokee. The WH (or WK1) was a complete re-design based on the Mercedes Benz ML370? (I think) regardless it was born out of the brief Benz ownership or Chrysler. In doing so, I think they cut some corners. After owning a 1997 3.4L V6 Prado for a few years, I decided I wanted an upgrade, but still wanted to retain off-road ability paired with on-road power. So I bought a Jeep. I purchased the 3.0 CRD Laredo basically to tow my 24 ft 3.1 Tonne Jayco Caravan. Boy it does that with ease and with a very pleasing fuel economy of app 16.4 lt/100, This figure was achieved on two long trips, one of 9,400 klms from Brisbane to Broken Hill, Silverton then around The Flinders Ranges in South Australia, The Eyre Peninsular, Adelaide, then the Great Ocean Rd to Melbourne, Ballarat, Eucheca, Albury, Gundagi

Purchased a 2010 wh jeep grand cherokee laredo 3.0 CRD with 156000 klms from a melb jeep dealer on short notice due to the breakdown of the intended tow vehicle. Only had for 3 days prior to connecting the caravan and heading off for 6 weeks to central australia. Covered 9500 klms in 6 weeks jeep never missed a beat and used 13.2 litres per 100 klms towing a 1800 kg poptop van. My second jeep and while the 2005 WH is an improvement over the old WJ it isn't on par with the competition. On the bright side a limited 5.7 V8 comes with 3.5 tonne towing, reasonable overtaking power, and some nice touches such as leather heated seats, rain sensing wipers, parking sensors, duel climate control and a few other nice toys that make things seem rather civilised and you won't find these on other cars at this price.

Considering all the features included, a Jeep Grand Cherokee is great value for money compare with other 4WD in its class. The ride in the front seats is very comfortable. It's a very capable vehicle for towing and so far (105,000km) it's pretty reliable. A few things that are not so great are: the back seat is incredibly cramped and uncomfortable for adults. Funny that the best thing that happened to Chrysler was Daimler and now they are split apart ??? I love this car and cannot rate it highly enough just drive off the car lot and enjoy. Superb for towing up to 3.5te without any drama. This is my 3rd Grand and i truly rate this CRD better than the 5.7 Hemi i had last. Last June 20014 a friend bought a 2006 Grand Cherokee limited 4.7L, I jumped in for a drive and then I had to have one. I bought mine in June with only 61,900km on the clock. I took the beast for a drive. Was great had it checked by RACV they said the front diff bush had to be changed took the car to Essendon Jeep and I must say they where good. My sister family purchased in July. First failure to start within 3 months of purchase. Since then weekly failed starts
Can range from 5-10 min, hours, two days or complete failed starts.
Also after start has failed on take off almost causing accident.
Purchased at Tynan sylvania who have completely refused to assess/inspect/repair the vehicle because they typically say "too busy to look at it". Been taking it to another service centre - been there over 8 times. Each time average 2-3 weeks off road. This time been 4 weeks.
