Wine has been accidentally spilt in the back of our brand new Jeep Wrangler Overland MY18. It has run into the weather proof speaker, which we have been able to clean out, and have pulled out the carpet, hosed it down and left it to dry in the sun before replacing it. However, there is still a very strong rancid smell and we can't figure out where and how to get rid of it. Any suggestions please?

Wrangler JK (2007-2020)

I’m possibly buying a Jeep Wrangler sports unlimited, diesel JK 2010 model with 130000 kms. I’m hoping to get some feedback regarding following issues and would appreciate any general feedback on this model.
1) Are they good for towing?
2) Is the diesel version better than petrol?
3) What is the consumption on and off road?

We fell in love in bought a second one.
We bought 2 Wrangler Unlimited Sahara (2007) and Rubicon (2011) both Diesel for long lasting motors in Europe to Import it to Central America Pacific side (6 months raining 6 months dry completely). The north americans only have been gas. Now we are driving them nearly 3 years here. We are Living there 500 m above the near Ocean and have to pass 10 km of ugly gravled roads to be at home in the mountains. Crossing small rivers too. Going above sharp stones. We also need to drive to the capital 6 Hours and it is comfortable. We left the hard tops, dreaming to put on the soft tops, but once tried and found out it is useless. The Aircondition and the dust of the roads are the reasons. There is no other car to be same robust off road. And you do a lot yourself. Model Sports is fine enough. Rubicon Features we nearly do not need even in very hard circumstances of steep roads. The Diesel consumption is 12 Liters/100 km in normal road and 16 l / 100 km in the steep mountains. You can get so many parts via the Internet from North america.

But the minor disadvantages are: the repairing staff in the Workshops have no idea how to find errors in the electronic parts of the engine, but this is true for all kind of modern cars. It will be better in Australia. They think the scanner will tell them what is wrong. But it is only a hint to understand the origin. There are some small design errors where to put the connections, some never have to touch water, then the CAN-bus does not work anymore until you find it. We had 4 experts giving up. After 7 weeks of blocked car and trying I called a 4by4-Guru in Germany who solved the Problem taking 2 calls and writing 3 emails with qualified questions within 2 days, I executed what he was telling via phone.. Sometimes some rain will enter a Little bit, but you can fix it by searching and thinking what to do. When I bring them to a workshop I am present to see that they are not doing bad things. Originally never was my intention to care myself about the cars. But now I love them. We would buy them again, and again the Diesel Version.

A PROBLEM THAT NOBODY CAN SOLVE ON MY JEEP 2008 2.8 l CRD.
When I start the car, after few seconds the following lamps are become on in the cluster: (1) Engine malfunction indicator lamp, (2) Low oil pressure indicator, (3) Electronic Throttle Control indicator and (4) Accelerator Pedal position Sensor. After that the engine loos power and can not go over2500 rpm.

For more than a year I tried to solve this problem with no success. The official local Dealer, after scanning the unit, the diagnosis codes indicated P0102- Mass Air Flow sensor, P012C Inlet Pressure Sensor, P2127 Accelerator position sensor. I replaced this three original sensor and spent close to $ 1,000, but the problem still exits and nobody is able to tell me what the problem is.

If some of your had been suffering with the same problem. How did you solve that?. please HELP

Your comments will be very much appreciated

The Workshops are not qualified in modern sensors within motors.
Hi Eugene, we own 2 Wrangler JK Unlimited Diesel. One from 2007 and one from 2011, using them in central america. Both with a distance of 2 months got the same error 2 months ago telling the (1) Engine malfunction indicator lamp - YES, ( (2) Low oil pressure indicator - NO), (3) Electronic Throttle Control indicator - YES and (4) Accelerator Pedal position Sensor - YES. That there is not the full power is clear, the engine will be in emergency mode. When it starts to show the read throttle lamp: )z( and power loosing within the first 10 minutes of driving then I stop, switch off, take out the key, open the door to stop other parts of the Computer running and wait for 2 minutes. In most cases for the rest of the rides including stops up to 1 hour it works then but the Motor lamp stays warning. Has power again. We are strongly searching to solve the Problem with real specialists that are MECHATRONICS. We will Keep up this comment to tell the results.

It does go through a fair bit of petrol (compared to my old Mazda 3) but it's pretty standard compared to other 4wds.
I love mine. It's so much fun to drive and just has so much space/ versatility.
Really depends on what you're looking for but I would reccommend it.

We owned JK Sport 2 door petrol and JK 4 door diesel. Bought brand new in 2014
For almost 3 years we only manged to take the 4 door one for offroading. This is where you see the real capabilities of the Jeeps.
They are fun to drive off the road.
On the other side for normal around town/motorway drive they fall behind compared to the other vehicles. Things we did not like:
- not very stable when it is wet. When you turn the Jepp would skidd quite often. Not impressed at all as in 2 occasions we were very close to an accident.
- Very hungry, especially the petrol model.
- pain in the neck to change the top and to roll back the soft one. Actually a big issue as in a good day when you have the top down it is just amazing.
- Feels very cheap inside and it is not a cheap vehicle.
- tyres very expensive.

We did like the Jeeps but not for around town drive.
The are great to go and explore. Loved them for that.

Sold them and got Hyundai as we don't go off-roading much and are happier now. (i30 and a Tucson).
So if you are not going to use them for off-roading - don't bother.

Hope our opinion helps a bit :-)
Cheers
I.

Great trucks (mine 166k no issues) - terrible for towing anything larger than box trailer etc.

G'day Popeye! Yes power isn't a problem, the manual has around 400nm and the 6sp auto puts out 463nm, only thing I noticed was I had to sit at 90kph when driving into headwind when temperatures where above 38c in the middle of Australia to keep the engine temperature at normal everyday level, could speed up to 110kph but It slowly would heat up to about 3/4 temp, but that's only on extreme days into headwind, hope that helps, I love my 4dr wrangler and glad I grabbed the diesel over the petrol

G'day again, I tow a 1.8t excavator with attachments on a ramped trailer with it for work which would have to be around 3t, have a super heavy steel rear bar and 2" raised springs all around with adjustable shockers/dampers as well, rated to carry 4.5t and doesn't get bogged down unless starting on a hill, but the diesel will stilll get up the rev range and get going

Wrangler JK (2007-2020)

I have a 2014 2 doors jeep Wrangler ( oscar mike ) if that makes a difference ? I understand that jeeps are heavy on Petrol but when I drive ( freeway ) 80 km each way to work and back (avg speed between 100-120 ks ph with the cruise control on ) my fuel light comes on @ between 390 & 400 ks, this has been serviced as required and they have re set the computer this seemed to get me to 480 ks before the low fuel light came on, but its back to coming on @ 380 kms ? I think this is a little excessive. any one have any ideas ? or at least what does everyone else get per tank of fuel ? Gail

1 answer
Rohan
Rohan

My wrangler the full light seems to come on when there's about 80 ks of fuel left in it. At higher speeds, 110 or 120 the fuel economy starts to go downhill due to the poor aerodynamics of the car. Keep it at 100 or less and the fuel economy will stay much better.

Hello Jaime Sanchez,
Have to say I'm not by any means an expert on Diesel engines, but can say the earlier diesel engines would last for a very long time. Not to sure these days, I am in a Face book club with very knowledgeable members, some member having jeeps for 30 or 40 years. The Face book page is JK Affinity (Jeep Wrangler Fanatics). These guys seem to know a lot about Jeeps, even older Jeeps. Maybe you can have a chat to them, they may recommend a later model or be able to give you advice on what to look for when buying a 09 Model. Some of the members have shops that can also advice on gear and provide cheap services and repairs etc.
I guess you will need to look at other areas apart from the engine also, gearbox, suspension etc etc. I know accessorizing your Jeep can get expensive, nearly all add on gear can be up to $1500 and plus, for Front bull bar, roof racks, etc. etc.
Hope I have helped a little.
May see you on the trails one day.
Regards
Paul

As Paul pointed out the older diesel engine did last for a long time! But as with the quality of cars these days and the general throw away society my opinion is that 200k is pushing a bit much, the wrangler crd is a great engine, but parts ARE costly for example, if the injectors havent been replaced yet they are at least $800 each x4, Just look at the service history. Hi all. Im looking at purchasing the 2013 Jeep wrangler unlimited sport 4 door manual diesel . After reading a few reviews am really worried about the overheating. Is this also occuring with the manual transmission during summer? Are most people finding faults due to heavy 4WD use? What ever we purchase will be mainly uswd on highways but want a car capable of taking a beating if we wanted to.

I haven't had any problems with my six speed maual. Seems to be a very strong gearbox. Even during rugged conditions, everything seem to be running fine. In temperature greater than 43c, the vehicle had no issues whatsoever. 6 speed manual would be the better option as this would suite the highways. Very economical once your cruising. Great performance for a 4 cylinder diesel. In general, for a 4wd straight out of the box, it's definately bang for buck. The JK's can take you where most other competitiors would struggle (without having to spend thousands on lift kit and suspension).

I have a grand cherokee laredo at the moment... & it's been giving me a few problems? I now want to change it for something new, & have to say that i absolute love the style, & shape of the jeep in general. I "ve researched the Jeep model in all styles & they don't get a grate rating!!! The reason why i'm asking is.... I was in a very bad car crash last year, & at the time i was driving a cherokee jeep, year 2002.... & i have to say that .... only for that Jeep, myself & my kids would have been killed. We replaced that model.... with a Laredo Jeep 2005, & only have it 1 year & has giving us nothing but trouble!!! Would really love your feedback

I can only say that I believe the Jeep was well built, but sadly let down by extremely poor service from Jeep dealers and bad backup from Jeep Australia. I had warranty problems, grossly over priced servicing, incompetent dealers who couldn't even fix a cigarette lighter, Jeep still owes me 280 dollars for promised reimbursement that was over 12 months ago. I would NEVER buy another jeep in Australia anyway, shame, because I liked the car

my wrangler struggles to tow a 1.7 tonne caravan- so forget a 2.1 tonne, the petrol has far less torque. If you plan on towing, do yourself a favour and sell the wrangler as if your towing you may need service and thats where you will get trouble

Not unless you want to burn your clutch out. Chrysler offered no warranty nor ever an explanation as to why they would not honor it. Mine burnt out in 10k's towing an 850kg A-van. Good luck. Mine was diesel and needed revs to get it moving. I think the diesel has been discontinued. Brewster.

Ebay is the best place to get your stock bumpers, and pretty cheap. Nothing wrong with them, it is just JK owners replace their stock bumpers with modified bumpers to accomodate winch etc. You can pick both bumpers for a couple of hundred, you may end up waiting for a few weeks to find them, but it is well worth it :)
