Impressive Impressa.
We have had this unit at least 7 or 8 years now. It has 28,588 cups on the counter and only ever needed repairing once for a leaking solenoid.we don't use the milk jug at all so that has never been an issue. The beauty of these units is the build quality nearly 30 thousand cups and still on the original grinder blades and brewing unit. We live on a farm and only ever use rainwater so I guess that helps. A Z9 would be nice to own but I'm guessing a few more models will come and go before this one dies. Spend the money and buy the best you can afford. Life is too short for bad coffee.

Best Coffee Machine I've Used.
The Jura Impressa Z5 coffee machine is a high quality unit with multiple options yet still very easy to use and durable.
Brisbane is notorious for its' hard water and this normally wreaks havoc with coffee machines. Apart from having built in cleaning cycles to both clean and decalcify the machine (using Jura's products to do so - with the assistance of prompts by the machine), you are also able to use their Claris filter system in the water tank which actually negates the need to decalcify. It also guarantees that you have pure water and fr...Read more
esh, great tasting coffee every time. I drink a lot of coffee (approx 10 cups day) so use a cleaning tablet once a week and the quality of coffee is noticeably improved by doing so. On this subject, I'd advise using Jura's tablets as if you check, you'll find the cheaper 'substitutes' have a totally different chemical composition. The machine uses either beans or pre ground though I've found most pre grinds are too fine for the machine - and what's the point of having a professional standard machine if you're not using freshly ground anyway! The grinder burrs are ceramic so are very durable. You can adjust the grind to suit your taste - as well as water temp, brew strength and amount of coffee made per pre-set. All these adjustments are a button press away. The interesting thing I found when I originally switched from stove top machine to automatic pressurized machines is that you actually use a lot less coffee as they're so much more efficient. Even taking into account a weekly cleaning tablet (around $25 for six tablets) and a monthly change (or 250 litres - it uses a bit of water as it cleans itself every time you shut it down) of Claris water filter (around $20 each), you still get cafe quality coffee at a fraction of the cost. You can leave the machine on (it has different energy saving cycles) and even on energy save it'll heat up in 30 seconds and be ready to make coffee. It has a milk frother which I'm told is very effective - I don't drink milk so honestly can't comment - and can make from ristretto to espresso to your taste. It also has dual spouts so 2 cups at a time (of the same product obviously) can be brewed.1 comment

Good as new after Capped-fee Service
My Jura Z5 is now over 7 years old. Until a month ago, everything worked perfectly every day for those 7 years. The coffee was always hot and the froth had perfect microbubbles. Then something happened that caused the water to divert straight to the lower tray, instead of through the ground coffee. I did some research and found it to be a problem with the brewer unit.
I visited the local Jura retailer (Harvey Norman) to consider buying a new coffee machine. While I was looking at the new models, I mentioned the problem with the Z5 to the sa...Read more
lesperson. Instead of trying to sell me a new coffee machine, he told me about a 'Premium Service' provided by Jura, where the cost of parts and labour is 'capped'. A quick search of the Jura web site confirmed that I could have my Z5 serviced, with a maximum fee of A $295. I sent my Z5 to the nearest Jura service agent, who was 600km way in Brisbane (Queensland). The agent, Crema Coffee Garage, replaced the brewer unit (and a long list of other parts that were worn out). They also replaced the water filter, cleaned the machine, and returned it via express parcel post ($35, which is really cheap for the size of the box). My Z5 is like new again. It's working perfectly. I could have spent thousands on a new coffee machine, but I'm glad that Jura offers customers the Premium Service option, as I quite like my Z5.1 comment

Fab!
We bought our Z5 about 10 years ago and only just retired it a few months ago for a smaller, more counter space friendly model (an A9). The Z5 was really great and made almost 30,000 coffees over it's time with us (kind of cool we could tell from the counter!) Towards the very end small things started to go on it like the milk frothing pump. The grinder was quite noisy compared to newer models, but did slightly improve after we had it professionally cleaned and serviced. The coffees it made were always great though and cleaning it was pretty ea...Read more
sy. I know people have difficulties with the milk not being hot enough, but if you pre-warm the cups there's no drama at all. I once made a flat white in a takeaway cup and the temperature was higher than a ceramic mug pulled out of the cupboard. Overall I would highly recommend Jura as an excellent home coffee maker!1 comment

Best of the best, but it will cost you
We now had the Z5 for 8 months making some 8-12 cups of latte/cappuchino per day. We bought it refurbished online for $799 from a well known site. It was refurbished directly by Jura and as always they change the inside components and ship new accessories and give the same factory warranty as brand new machines. The best with the machine is the "one button" capuchinos, we love it. It also has extensive amount of ways to personalize your coffee: strength, amount of water, amount of milk, level of grind etc. Its also neat that you can give each b...Read more
utton a name like "Claras Capucchino" or "Eriks large espresso". As long as this machine dont break down its one of the best household machines we ever bought. It has only one "capucchino" button (= only one setting possible for the one-button feature). Filters dont last very long. Jura pills extremely expensive (but we found extremely good quality OEM pills for 1/5 of the cost). It likes cleaning itself all the time (but I guess thats a good thing).3 comments

We had a very good machine that lasted for 11 years and we upgraded to Nespresso first and then to Jura Z5 about 6 months ago; I did not like the idea of Nespresso - have to buy pods from specific place... I like to know what we are drinking... having real machine means that you can choose your coffee beens not capsules filled with something - that is my opinion and not everybody have to agree with me

Brilliant Machine
I have owned the Jura Z5 coffee machine for 18 months and love it.
The machine was not cheap; at the time we purchased it for $2,800.00 after haggling with the sales people at Harvey Norman. I also purchased the milk chiller which is brilliant.
It makes a perfect cappuccino with just the press of one button.
The machine is easy to use and seems to be very reliable.
One downside to the machine is that, depending on how you use the machine, it seems to need either cleaning (with the Jura tablets) or a new water filter fairly often - ...Read more
mine tends to need it every 6 weeks. But then again, I am using this machine everyday and make at least 3 cappuccinos, so I can't really complain. The machine does not need the water filters; that is optional but I choose to use them to save time on descaling.3 comments

ss days to repair, they were busy and were now quoting 5 business days. Fair enough. But we are now at Day 6 after the machine had been dropped in for repair and service and I have to keep phoning them for an update. This is a very frustrating experience for such an expensive machine - $2,800.00. At that price, I expect better service from Jura. I would be reluctant to buy another Jura machine in the future.Jura A.Jura

Necessary parts had been replaced and the machine serviced in a turnaround time of 7 business days. As my machine is out of warranty but under 6 years old, the maximum I paid was $285.00 which I thought was reasonable given that I use the machine daily. I am very happy with the way the machine is operating and can again, can make myself a great cup of coffee. My only suggestion to Jura would be to advise their customers if the necessary repairs are going to take longer than the 5 business days.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

I love the look of the Z5 on our kitchen bench and when we get our visitors I wont be offering bulk coffees of instant [censored word removed]! A bit early to have an opinion but after setting it up I am now having my near perfect Latte and Cappuccino. Also, what I paid for it is a big bonus. Display model with a 5 year extended warranty for $1830 at Clive Peeter's in Ringwood. I believe there is one more machine available as of today's date!!

I whole heartedly recommend the machine and have only two small issues with it as stated in cons. However, even though doing one task at a time it is really fast, effortless, with minimal mess and very little. maintenance. This machine is virtually handsfree once you have made your selection. You get froth like you would get head on a beer. I use clear glasses and love the layered colours of the coffee. I rarely buy coffee when going out and use this machine daily. I have no shortage of coffee requests at my house and we easily do 1kg of beans...Read more
a week. Raised eyebrows in approval are a most welcome compliment once a coffee is served and there are no shortages of those. The machine has 5 coffee strengths and the volume of milk, coffee or water can be adjusted to perfectly fill any cup. It comes with a water filter which does help the coffee process and is easy to insert. The machine also cleans itself with the drop of a tablet apart from a superficial wipe. If it needs something it tell you and is very easy to use. We are super impressed! This is our 3rd big bucks coffee machine and is the best by far and leaves the rest for dead. The Jura Z5 really has very few shortcomings in comparison to others where I have given up and opted for instant freeze dried instead. Not once have we bought freeze dried since unpacking this machine. A truly unbelievable machine. We have had this for 8 months. Effortless coffee making, fantastic milk froth, seperate hot water spout giving constant hot water without the whitish bubbly tinge other machines produce. Self cleaning, relatively compact design for a fully fledged automatic machine, water filter enabled. Can be programmed to turn on in morning and off at night. This is about as good as it gets in the coffee department. Although adjustable, Ideally if the coffee spouts could go a little higher to accommodate taller glasses standing on their own. (However almost all coffee machines have this problem!). It performs only one task a time, either frothed milk, water or coffee - not the end of the world. Very expensive at about $4300 big bucks so haggle because you can grab a bargain.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

i prefer the generation 2 model of the z5 impressa series, it does 2 cappuccinos at one time, can adjust the heat, strength, amount of coffee for each product, easy to navigate and actually tell what button your pressing for the different coffee just by looking at it. we have the z5gen2 at work and its made over 1000 coffee's and its only needed to be cleaned 3 times which again is very easy to do.
great tasting coffee, jura after sales service is fantastic, great 2 year warranty, milk thermo included.
cappuccino nozzle will steam like crazy if there is no milk in the thermo.

The coffee coming out of my z5 seems to be watery, even though ristretto is selected, and extra strong. Any idea why this could be?

Dear Zap, Thank you for your question, it sounds like a blocked shower head.'
Please remove the drip tray and put to the side.
Place your hand were the drip tray sits feel up there is a flap that moves foward please move and wipe clear of any ground coffee.
once cleaned put tray back in and test the machine and let me know if this has resolved the issue.

Hi there Kylie, thanks.
I did that, not a lot of grounds came out, but no difference in the coffee noticed. Since then I went for it, I've pulled out and cleaned the grinder (spout was half blocked, bizarrely a lot of unground beans underneath the grinder which I emptied out), removed and cleaned the brewing head (no issues seen except the expected mould in various places), cleaned whatever surfaces I could get at. It all back together and works fine, but no apparent difference in coffee strength. I've tried fine and coarse ground settings. Any ideas what I might be missing? The unit is new to us, bought used recently. Thanks.

Thank you for your question, Error 8 is a brew unit error please turn the machine off at the power point for a couple of minutes and turn back on sometimes doing a reset can resolve this issue otherwise the machine will need to come in to the nearest Jura service centre.

I have a Z5 at home. After 7500 cups of faultless coffees it has developed a fault. Even though the bean compartment is full, it displays "FILL BEANS" and stops.
Is there anything I can do at home or do I have to take the machine 90km to the Newcastle service agent for a fixed price ($395?)service?
3 answers
Hi John, that's too bad :( I never had an error message like that myself. Did you call the hotline on the machine to ask for help? How many years have you had your machine?
My machine was purchased as a retirement present to myself seven and a half years back. It was entirely because I very much liked its brother in my employer's Board Room. Advice was that I should take the machine to the service agent in Newcastle. On this site I read that I'm looking at a $395 capped service charge if I do. If there is a simple user-available way to verify that full service is necessary, it seems appropriate that I at least consider it.
Sounds like a blockage in you grinder clean hopper using a vacuum cleaner then refill I did it a few years ago and it fixed it also makes the vacuum cleaner smell better
