Worth for money and easy to clean
I bought it for a year, I use it twice a week, it did a good job fit its price. The bowl is easy to clean, the only thing is the rice crust in bottom. I usually need to turn off the power after cooked. The warm condition would make the crust getting worse.
Purchased in December 2021 at Big W.

Haven’t failed since I learned the trick!
Most rice cookers are pretty much the same but it’s how you start that makes the difference. Always, always rinse your rice! Place the dry rice in a sieve and shake it back and forth under cold running water. You'll see the milky water gradually become clear which means you’ve rinsed a lot of the starch off the rice. It’s starch that makes the rice stick to the pan. Since I learned this from a Chinese cook, I’ve never had a problem with my Kambrook rice cooker. I love the keep warm function it offers too.
Purchased in December 2021.

Burned out after 6 weeks
Bought this from big w 6 weeks ago. Used maybe 6 times, cooking 4 cups of white rice tonight terrible burning electrical smell and unit switched off no lights no power. Half cooked rice. Also the most basic measurements in the instructions are wrong. Says 1 cup uncooked rice and 1 cup water results in Raw crunchy rice. How did they manage to get that wrong?

What's the point? It's stuffed. I will take it back to Big W and get a refund.

Great while it lasted
Recieved as a gift at Christmas.
Good Size for a family and i love the added feature of being able to use the steamer for vegatables in the same pot. One evening in May I plugged it in and all the power went out in the house. It had become dangerous for no known reason. Having only used it about 20-30 times, I was very disappointed as the box brags how it is "The Smarter Choice" and has been tested for 600 Hours and basically Guaranteeing 12months and 7,500 cups of Fried Rice??????. Believing that this item would last a while and being a ...Read more

Ok, but not great.
I have only used my rice cooker a handful of times. Up until now, it worked perfectly & my rice was 10/10 every time. Today I noticed a horrible burning smell coming from the cooker & also noticed the cooking light was no longer on. I am assuming it has blown up? Admittedly, I was cheap, but I was hoping it would have lasted a bit longer than a handful of uses. Bit disappointed. Will definately buy another one, but might try a different brand next time.

Made for this throw away society - not me
A long time ago I had this same cooker, which stopped working before Xmas '15. My son bought me a new one which lasted a dozen uses. This time when I switched in on to cook and after a few seconds All the power went OFF, Dangerous Item causing the Safety Switch to Trigger which blew up my computer speaker system and possibly other items. CHEAP & NASTY bad for so many reasons. Waste of money. Profiteering on selling Landfill.

First one lasted a day, second lasted 3 weeks.
Hi
I don't usually do this, but after returning two rice cookers within a month I feel you have a real issue with your Krc5 / krc8
we bought a KRC8 from Kmart Halls head 6210. It lasted only one cook. It burnt out and would not got onto the warming setting.
It was extremely hot to touch.
We took it back to Kmart and were issued a replacement.
The replacement unit also failed Tuesday 03/05/16.
All up it cooked 8 times. We had it for about 4 weeks.
All dishes were 2 cup rice dishes- directions followed to the letter.

Terrible don't waste your money.
This is my second one in a matter on months, the first one I used twice and it stopped working. I returned it and got another one, this one has lasted 4 uses and has now stopped working, can't return this one because I have misplaced receipt, but I won't be buying another kambrook model. What a waste of money, can't even get half a dozen uses out of the machines!
I thought first time just bad luck this time I know now they are just junk, so do not buy review other models and pay a bit more this is a big inconvenience.

Bought 2 and both died within 5 months
At first I loved it, cooked rice well, etc. compact and simple. My first one lasted a month and bought a second one, I think a month after as it was sold out at Kmart and waited for it to come in. Tonight, in the middle of cooking, it died again. Don't waste your money as much as I did!

Not too great
Good price but u get what you pay for, not good with heavy use. Lasted 4 weeks and has just burnt out (3rd kambrook rice cooker to burn out). Other than that perfect rice every time, no burnt rice and easy to clean. The steAmer was a great addition to the package
Easy to use and clean
3rd rice cooker that has failed after a month

How long do you cook vegetables for in rice cooker? The booklet that came in box with cooker doesn't indicate the time for any vegetable to be cooked. Thanks, Carmel.

OfficialKambrook
Hi Carmel - you can find a cooking guide with suggested times on page 11 in the instruction booklet, see: http://www.kambrook.com.au/media/instruction_manuals/KRC8.pdf
Some tips for steaming vegetables using this rice cooker:
- smaller pieces will steam faster than larger ones
- best to cut vegetables to a similar size for even cooking
- ensure that not all steaming holes are covered by food (this prevents any overflow during steaming)
- fresh or frozen vegetables can be used (although there's no need to thaw frozen vegetables prior to steaming)
- avoid having water or stock touch the tray or food
- check the liquid level occasionally and add more hot water if further steaming is required
- always lift the lid away from you to avoid the spurt of steam escaping from under the lid
Hope this is helpful. For further assistance with this product, please contact the Kambrook customer care team on 1300 139 798 during business hours or e-mail [email protected].
