I just got a 10 cup rice cooker and steamer and following the rice/water ratio instructions, I cooked two cups of rice for the first time. It spluttered out fluid from around the edge of the lid to about 30-40, making a mess. Is this normally what they do.
Diane
Hi Diane,
I've been asked to comment on your problem because I've submitted on the subject before but I'm not a guru on the subject. My current rice cooker has a max capacity of 8 cups and I'm reluct...

I think the thermostat or equivalent has died. If it is still under warranty take it back to the shop and get a replacement. If it is out of warranty save yourself some grief and buy another brand. ...
Read more My original KRC5 lasted a few years but then 3 later versions have died in the same way as yours after less than 10 uses, so the more recent production has not been built to the original standard. I could have had another warranty replacement the last time but decided life was too short to spend carting KRC5s back and forth from the shop. I bought another brand in a slightly less convenient 8 cup size.

How long does it take to cook one cup of rice? Do you not set a time at all - it is supposed to just know?
Also, there is no instructions on using the steamer rack with the booklet. What is it used for?

How long do you cook vegetables for in rice cooker? The booklet that came in box with cooker doesn't indicate the time for any vegetable to be cooked. Thanks, Carmel.
Hi Carmel - you can find a cooking guide with suggested times on page 11 in the instruction booklet, see: http://www.kambrook.com.au/media/instruction_manuals/KRC8.pdf
Some tips for steaming vegetables using this rice cooker: ...
Read more - smaller pieces will steam faster than larger ones - best to cut vegetables to a similar size for even cooking - ensure that not all steaming holes are covered by food (this prevents any overflow during steaming) - fresh or frozen vegetables can be used (although there's no need to thaw frozen vegetables prior to steaming) - avoid having water or stock touch the tray or food - check the liquid level occasionally and add more hot water if further steaming is required - always lift the lid away from you to avoid the spurt of steam escaping from under the lid Hope this is helpful. The rack is meant to sit at the bottom, feet down so the water does not reach the rack. Place vegetables on the rack and begin to steam. If vegetables are below the water level then you will boil and not steam the vegetables.

Read morering the cooking period to loosen the rice from the bottom of the bowl and then it's perfect.I can't see anywhere in the Rice Express 8 booklet how long the rice takes to cook for set quantities. I haven't used it yet but it would be good to know so I don't have to guess. What are the general cooking times for 2 cup white rice and 2 cup brown rice? Thanks.
Kambrook would recommend 15 minutes for two cups of white rice and 20 minutes for two cups of brown rice. Hope that helps.
