Serviceable
Does it's job and makes a lot of rice, enough for at least five people in one go. Very light. Easy to wash and use. The steamer stand included is not very practical, because it may not fit in the pot when there is a lot of rice. Otherwise great value for money.

Excellent value
Bought this rice cooker about 10 years ago and it has been used almost every day. We cannot fault it! The bowl is losing a little of the non-stick coating now which makes it slightly harder to clean, but a little oil or butter added to the bowl before cooking helps to lessen this (common) problem. There are so many rice varieties and they require different rice to water ratios, but the ratios are generally shown on the rice packaging and then you fine-tune it to suit your preference for wetter or drier cooked rice. For the price and reliability I will happily buy another Kambrook KRC5 if ever the present one dies.

NOT Happy JanBrisbane
Teflon coating on cooker bowl: a bit cooks off each meal...
Flakes of the teflon coating on the inner surface of the rice bowl peel off each meal, ending up in the rice! The bowl is only ever cleaned by soaking overnight with water & dish washing liquid.
Then the overcooked, stuck-to-the-bowl rice ( about half a serving) is gently brushed out with copious amounts of water, more suds and a soft brush.
NOT Happy, Jan! Date purchased? 1 April, ~~

Broken within 5 mins. Avoid.
Broken within 5 minutes. Lights went out. Strong burning plastic smell. I mean I know it's cheap, so I had super low expectations for it, thought would have lasted for 6 months? Would have been happy, didn't think I still got disappointed with such low expectations. To anyone thinking of buying this to try, don't bother. Save yourself some trouble and time.

Cheap and reliable.
I purchased my 5 cup version 4 years ago and it's still going strong. It's a cheap no frills version compared to other options on the market. I've been mine on an almost daily basis and it's been fantastic for the price. I mainly use it to cook rice but I've even used it as a improvised Hobo Hotpot - you simply fill the rice bowl with water/stock (I fill mine until about half full) and throw in your choice of meat/vegetables once the water/stock starts boiling.
I certainly wasn't expecting my unit to last anywhere as long as it has but I'm pleasantly surprised and will be sad when it finally carks it. Great value and does what it says, no bells & whistles but you can't complain for the price.

Didn't even get to use it
Bought this from Harvey Norman and I opened it up. Read the manual, ect. Put the rice in etc, and I went to change it from warm to cook. The lever was broken !! No wonder it was the cheapest one there. Don't waste your money,
I won't be bothering with Kambrook again

Does the job
I've had my Kambrook rice cooker for years and l think it does a pretty good job. Yes the rice sticks a little at the bottom especially if you use stock rather than water but you can minimise that by stirring the rice and serving it as soon as possible when you hear the switch trip to keep warm. What l also do is squirt some dishwashing liquid into the bottom of the bowl, fill it with hot water and let it sit while you have dinner. Then l wash it with a sponge not a scourer. Stuck rice comes off super easy and its gentle on the non stick coating. For the price I paid I'm really happy with it.

Burned out after 6 weeks
Bought this from big w 6 weeks ago. Used maybe 6 times, cooking 4 cups of white rice tonight terrible burning electrical smell and unit switched off no lights no power. Half cooked rice. Also the most basic measurements in the instructions are wrong. Says 1 cup uncooked rice and 1 cup water results in Raw crunchy rice. How did they manage to get that wrong?

I am looking for information. I have not used it yet.
I asked if you can cook one cup of rice effectively when there is no timing one can set. i was given a number to ring, which I assume is in Australia. I live in New Zealand. Can you tell me about cooking only one cup of rice - how much water - do you add boiling water or cold. I could ring the number if I could be sure of getting a person, but this usually does not happen for ten minutes or so when ringing a help line. I have not used the cooker yet.

Perfect.
I have been using the rice cooker for 3 years and I never had any problem. This not completed to use at all. Just one click and it's done . Easier to use and Engery saving too. The non sticky container also still looking great as new. However, I have noticed few different black spot at the back of container but I don't think it's a issue as long as the cooker is still usable and of course I used this for 3 years already.

Perfect for anyone
It Does exactly what it claims to do. It Cooks rice so easy and efficiently without fuss and cooks quinoa awesome too. Its easy to clean up too, hot water and a bit of detergent and you simply wipe it out, sometime it needs to be soaked for a minjte but then it will come off.

Great for the price
We've had the 5-cup for 7 years - bought it for a year or two and never needed to change. We cook rice 2-3 times a week; white and brown so we've had 700-800 Uses and only now it's coming to end of life which is fantastic. Cooks decent rice after you've experimented with water ratio a few times.

Pathetically bad
The equal worst small (5 cup) rice cooker I have used. The entire cooker is too lightweight - slides on bench when stirring gently part way through. Water tends to bubble up & over during cooking. Despite turning it off as soon as cooked, the rice has always stuck to the thin, coated insert. These rice cookers are much cheaper than they used to be but the quality/usefulness is not there any more. This will be donated to Charity as the last one was!

Perfect when automated with an external timer switch
I have a power switched electronic countdown timer ($13 from Bunnings) which I use to time and automatically switch off this great robust Kambrook cooker.
Because I use the same rice brand and type of rice, and always1 Kambrook cup of rice and 2 and a half Kambrook cups of water, with timer set to 26 minutes, I have used the cooker hundreds of times to make perfect rice every single time. The automatic switch off ensues that undercooking or overcooking never occurs. The cooking surface is perfect after years of use.
Before this setup I...Read more
had always made a mess of cooking rice, but with the above setup its always perfect. In fact not even expensive automatic rice cooks can produce rice so perfectly uniformly cooked and without sticking. Because overheating can never occur because I've set a fixed time period to automatically switch off power before sticking can occur, I believe this machine will never fail as its operating well within its limits.Similar opinion? Great while it lasted
Recieved as a gift at Christmas.
Good Size for a family and i love the added feature of being able to use the steamer for vegatables in the same pot. One evening in May I plugged it in and all the power went out in the house. It had become dangerous for no known reason. Having only used it about 20-30 times, I was very disappointed as the box brags how it is "The Smarter Choice" and has been tested for 600 Hours and basically Guaranteeing 12months and 7,500 cups of Fried Rice??????. Believing that this item would last a while and being a ...Read more

Cheap, Cheap, Cheap
I've wanted a rice cooker for quite some time, and today, in a bid to shut me up (I'm sure), my parents bought me one as a gift. At a price of only $17, I'm certain they considered it quite a steal. Not the rice cooker I'd have picked, nor one I'd had my eye one, but for the price who can complain?
As it turns out, I can!
Mum suggested we have rice for dinner tonight (along with salmon & veggies). What better way to test it out. Following the instructions for brown rice to the letter (almost). With all the water absorbed I assumed the "keep w...Read more

Ok, but not great.
I have only used my rice cooker a handful of times. Up until now, it worked perfectly & my rice was 10/10 every time. Today I noticed a horrible burning smell coming from the cooker & also noticed the cooking light was no longer on. I am assuming it has blown up? Admittedly, I was cheap, but I was hoping it would have lasted a bit longer than a handful of uses. Bit disappointed. Will definately buy another one, but might try a different brand next time.

Never missed a beat
I have read all of the reviews below saying their cookers have died, but I can't say I have had a bad experience? Cooks well, easy to clean up, cheap and cheerful. I don't like how much steam it pumps out into the shelf above, but that just requires me to shift it out when cooking

Made for this throw away society - not me
A long time ago I had this same cooker, which stopped working before Xmas '15. My son bought me a new one which lasted a dozen uses. This time when I switched in on to cook and after a few seconds All the power went OFF, Dangerous Item causing the Safety Switch to Trigger which blew up my computer speaker system and possibly other items. CHEAP & NASTY bad for so many reasons. Waste of money. Profiteering on selling Landfill.

Hi Allan,
I'm not a rice cooker guru but "they" keep asking me to comment every time there is a rice cooker question. For what it is worth I believe the standard rice cooker cup is 180ml. Through my patchy experience with rice cookers I think I have 3 different rice cooker cups in my plastics drawer - they are slightly different shapes but having checked them I can confirm they are consistently the same volume, so go with 180ml. Cheers, Seppo
Thanks very much l will go with that Allan

I just got a 10 cup rice cooker and steamer and following the rice/water ratio instructions, I cooked two cups of rice for the first time. It spluttered out fluid from around the edge of the lid to about 30-40, making a mess. Is this normally what they do.
Diane

Hi Diane,
I've been asked to comment on your problem because I've submitted on the subject before but I'm not a guru on the subject. My current rice cooker has a max capacity of 8 cups and I'm reluctant to do less than 3 cups in it because the results can be patchy if your ratios are not spot on at the lower levels. To get used to it try doing 3 or 4 cups and either have leftovers or feed a hungry teenager. I use level rice cup measures for the rice and then don my glasses to get the water level spot on on the scale on the inside of the cooker container. It's not unusual to get a little bit of bubble blowing around the edge of the lid about two thirds of the way through the cooking but it should not be landing on the benchtop and making a mess. My suspicion is that you may have had a bit too much water in the mix and some of the excess came over the edge before there was time for it to be absorbed by the rice. Stick with it as rice cookers are a reliable way to get consistent cooked rice. Cheers, Seppo
