Robust and well engineered but not as versatile as I had hoped
Living on a corner block there is a lot of nature strip and footpath for me to look after - especially with three trees outside the property (which thankfully only drop small to medium sized leaves). I bought this sweeper in the hope of dramatically reducing the amount of labour required to keep the footpaths and driveway clean as well as sweep up all the dirt that congregates along the kerb edges of the street.
So far as keeping the footpaths and driveway clean, I give this unit top marks. It really does work extremely well in these circumsta...Read more
nces and reduces my labour by a factor of around 4 to 5. That is purely in terms of time. In terms of physical effort versus manual sweeping, the advantage could almost be said to be priceless - at least to me. The way it handles these concrete surfaces is easily good enough for me to make this unit my "default" garden tool for their maintenance - both after lawn and nature strip mowing and for general week to week cleaning. Even better, the unit has a sufficiently wide "reach" such that for a typical council footpath, you only need to make two passes - one in each direction covering half the total width of the path during each pass. Sadly, however, the unit proved to be a complete and utter failure when it came to cleaning the dirt and dust out from the edges of the road. I honestly thought this task would be a no-brainer for this particular unit, but it turns out that unless the surface you are sweeping is anything other than dead flat (at least under the operating area of the unit at any given time), it simply will not work - at least not for me! So in the case of the kerb edges, even the small amount of camber on the road is more than enough to prevent the rotating edge sweepers from even contacting the ground at the very edge, let alone being able to sweep anything up. And this was very disappointing for me, though I suppose I prefer that it can't do the road side edges versus it not being able to do the footpaths. So I certainly can't throw away my manual broom (not that I really thought I could anyway). I should just clarify in the relation to the above, it will quite happily sweep up or down a slight slope (with the limitation being your ability to push it) but if that slope has any curvature along it (but in particular camber changes where the surface under the middle of the unit is higher than the surface at the edges), you may find the unit becomes anything from slightly challenged to completely incapable of performing the task at hand. All that said, in my opinion the actual engineering of this unit is executed to a very high level in terms of design, utility, build quality and materials quality (even despite the functional flaw mentioned above). It is very rare that I buy something these days where I can truly see the value for money from a point of view of quality materials and design, but in this case I do have to say the unit scores particularly well in this category in my opinion. My only reservation relates to the service life of the brushes and the drive belts, especially here in Victoria where road surfaces in particular are incredibly abrasive. I am not sure how easy it is for an owner to purchase the the drive belts in particular as spare parts but I certainly hope when the time comes they are readily available and that I will be allowed to purchase them myself (versus being forced to take it to a dealer for servicing). As for the brushes themselves, I'm not even sure they will last more than a year or two here in Victoria thanks to the incredibly abrasive surfaces. Overall though, I am still quite happy with this purchase and the price I paid ($289). I am certainly disappointed that it proved completely incapable of sweeping up the dirt around the edges of the roadside but on the other hand, it sweeps flat surfaces more adeptly than I expected it to - it even has very little trouble with the leaves, though as I mentioned at the outset we are not talking large leaves in my case. So long as spare parts are readily available directly to owners, I will forgive this unit it's unfortunate flaws.Purchased in June 2021 at Total Tools Online store for $289.00.

Rubbish. Don’t bother
Brought this item for $280 from total tool. I was told it’s good to clean up leaves & small debris.
Can’t even collect leaves & fills in a matter of 2 good sweeps. Leaves a trail of crushed up leaves behind you & your forever having to empty the bin. Okay for very small debits like dirt
