I have a an 18’6” tandem axel poptop caravan and would like to know how the vehicle will perform when towing and approx lt per 100ks
1 answer
I’d be more concerned about the weights the Sorrento is rated as towing a max of 2000kg with a 100kg towball weight. Most vans would be close to or over this. We don’t tow with ours so I can’t comment on fuel usage sorry

Hi, I am seriously considering a Sorento. It was mentioned previously that it has a DPF. I understand that the Santa Fe with an identical drive train does not have a DPF. Would someone please clear this up for me please? Furthermore, does any one know if the Hyundai Tucson has a DPF?

The rear diff failed on MY2012 Sorento - I am told uneven tyre wear is the cause and they will not repair on warranty. They replaced the front one last year and I have consistently told the dealer about noises coming from it for over a year. It was serviced 1 week before it failed catastrophically. Is their tyre wear reason nonsense or not ?

For sure. I bet they sore the bill and don't want to double up on that. It's total crap if you ask me.
I asked Kia if they look at these things when they service the vehicle and they replied that "no they can't unless they get in there and pull it apart" which is something they don't do.
If you have been complaining about noises and have it in writing, then you should take it further
Thanks Geoff... I took it further... they are now fixing the car under warranty!

2010 Sorento has this UK car got a DPF?
1 answer
Jeremy T, mine is a Australian delivered vehicle and it does have a DPF. From what I understand they self generate...clean themselves as long as you take them for 15 minute runs min per day.
I never had to have mine cleaned at the 73,000 kms mark. Still going well. There is a warning light but its never been an issue for me.

I keep hearing about serious diff issues in the santa fe but none whatsever in the sorento. Don't both of them share the same drivetrain? I'm referring to model post 2012
1 answer
Apparently there were diff issues with the Sorento prior to the 2015 update when Kia engaged some Aussie engineers to change the suspension to our conditions. Since then it's been fine, hence one of the many reasons they now back it with the 7 year warranty.

I have a Kia Sorento 2010, the light has been on in my car and the clock belt needs to be replaces. Is this a part of the recall for the Kia Sorento clock belts?
1 answer
I assume you mean the airbag light. We have a 2010 Sorento platinum and our airbag light came on . (It was the clockspring) One repairer quoted hundreds of dollars. Took It to a Kia dealership and they fixed it straight away for nothing. We are in Perth.

I have a 2018 sorento limited edition and I’m thinking of getting a caravan. Can I get some feedback on anything I need to know before I get going. For example, it’s an auto so how will I do with fuel consumption, do I need to upgrade the springs etc.
Really appreciate any help I can get. Thanks

Forget it. I have a 2018 GT line and although it has a 2000kg tow capacity, it only has a 100kg limit on the tow ball which means you can pull a box trailer or a jet ski. The only camper in all of the Jayco range that you can legally tow is the JPod. VERY disappointed with this aspect of the car.

I have Kia Sorento 2010 turbo diesel does it need timing belt to be changed on 200.000 km?
1 answer
Hi Hadi. I'm pretty sure they run a timing chain not belt.
See link below.

Thanks Dan. To your review, do you have a 2014 XM or 2015 UM? The reason for asking is the XM has a higher tow rating.
What were you towing? I currently tow an unbraked camper trailer that weighs in at under 750kgs but want the ability to tow a Jayco Swan that weighs 1134kgs unladen, about 1500kgs on the road.
What do you mean when you said your car is no longer AWD? Was the repair not done right?
Thanks in advance.

Ours is the 2015 model . Auto with 2 ton towing capacity. We rarely tow and nothing over 1000kg. We bought it new because we live on a farm out of town and do around 50k km per year so 7 year unlimited km warranty sounded good. Disappointed that we had this problem so soon but from what I've heard it's not so uncommon.
I guess because we travel on some dirt roads we use the AWD a bit more than if it was just on bitumen but the spline from front to rwd is very fine.and easily damaged. Nothing like a proper 4wd.

Looking for feedback on the Kia Sorento XM with 2.2 Diesel Motor and automatic transmission; particularly vehicles used to tow.
How many kilometres has your vehicle done and have you encountered any problems that additional maintenance may have been able to prevent?
I have a 2014 with 60K on the clock and need to make sure I get 10 years and 200K of reliable motoring. I am concerned the service program covers the bare minimum. The vehicle was purchased new and is still under warranty.

Wouldn't recommend it for towing. They seem to have a very weak link between the transfer case and transmission. Ours chewed out the spline at around 100K km and we do very little towing. I have heard it is not uncommon on both the Sorento and Hyundai Sante Fe which has the same running gear.
KIA covered it under warranty but were very slow to act and only supplied the Dealer with parts to repair rather than a complete unit so repairs took some time.
Car runs fine now but we really lost confidence with both the vehicle and manufacturer. They are fine for city or soft country driving but nothing too hard. Will probably look at new Pajero or similar in the future. Hope this helps. Cheers.
I have to agree with Dan. My story is a bit disappointing at 150K on the clock. I thought I had an SUV for good value, until the timing chain snapped. Owned several diesel engine suv's and utes and this is the first time this has happened to me. New Sorentos seemed to go up in flames too...I saw SOME news reports already on some newer.

It was a plastic chain guide. With 12 mm socket you can do Al the work. You don't have to dismantle anything else to perform this task. I have the sorento 2008 crdi 163hp 120 kw

I wish to know if the 6 speed auto is strong enough for towing a 1500kg Gvm Caravan. Is the factory transmission cooler good enough or does it require an aftermarket add on? thanks, Dave.

Hi mate. I haven't yet towed anything yet, don't have a tow-bar. But so far whatever the specs say on caradvice and other car reviews online, Sorrento that I have has matched it in real life.
Cooler ia pretty ok I suppose. I drove through QLD in 40C days for 3 weeks, it flew like a kite. No issues with anything.
Thanks for answering Sam.
