Very Disappointed
I previously owned a very old sunbeam mixer and was renown for my cakes, especially my cupcake mixture. However I find that this model does not mix/cream butter or sugar well at all and I have got to the stage where I am just not baking as a result. I have adjusted the bowl etc and it does not make any difference. I still have a mixture that is not at all well mixed/creamed except for certain parts and a lot of mixture stuck in the bottom and on the sides. I am really disappointed. I don't have a guard so mixtures flicks out everywhere however ...Read more
I would be happy to purchase one if I wasn't so unhappy with the mixer. In an attempt to yet again bake a cake for my daughter's birthday I tried again today hence the google search to see if anyone else had this problem and came up with this site.

A great purchase
I bought this for my wife last year and she has loved using it. It has made baking a lot easier for her as it can mix any kind of batter, especially bread dough and pizza dough. At first we weren't sure if the bowl size was big enough but after using it for making cookie, bread, cake, pizza, we are convinced that it is definitely big enough.

Mixer okay, can't say the same about the customer service provided
Purchased new, had to have the mixer repaired after 2 months. Had to send it back again but this time kitchenaid wouldn't cover it under warranty as they only fix this part once (gear worm).
Said it was "probably" due to user error so would not be covered.
Whilst I'm not satisfied with kitchenaid Australia's explanation what is more frustrating is the lack of understanding and unprofessionalism shown by their representives.
I was advised that my concerns would be escalated and a supervisor would get back to me "today or tomorrow" t...Read more
hat was last Thursday and I am still waiting for the supervisor to call. The mixer is pretty good but there are better out there for the money that you spend. But I think the folks at Kitchenaid need to understand that you may have a great product but if your service is lacking you will lose customers in the long run. Still waiting for my call.....at least the repair centre was efficient and friendly.1 comment

Great to use
So far after owning it for around half a year, have made several cakes, and the mixing, beating and whipping functions are really good.
It's been reliable and fairly simple to use, though i haven't started using the other components like the dough hook. that's mostly due to my lack of experience cooking

I use my mixer every day!
I love this mixer. My husband and spent hours researching mixers before settling on this one. It is not the cheapest (or the most expensive) and I love it for every day use. My husband fond a Youtube who pulled a brand new KitchenAid apart to see how well it was made. It was that video that made my husband a convert and me a new KitchenAid owner :)

Doesn't live up to the hype
I was looking to upgrade my 10 year old Breville cheapie and was tossing up between a Kitchenaid and a Kenwood. The Kitchenaid had so many great reviews I had to go with that. Two months later and I've decided to sell it. Here are my reasons:
- the beater doesn't scrape the bowl unless you spend an extra $70+ to buy a special beater. This really should be included.
- there is not enough room to manually scrape down the sides of the bowl without tilting the top of the machine open (something I could do in my old machine).
- to remove th...Read more

Still making up my mind
Motor performance extremely good. Unit is sturdy and sits well on my bench. Mine came with bonus icecream bowl, and I've used it once - worked extremely well, but attachment quite tricky to put together. The beater that came with the unit is not anywhere near as good as my previous one, and I purchased a flex beater (@$70.00 extra)- it should be a standard inclusion. Made my best pav. ever using this machine, and am looking forward to many happy years together. Agree with other comments that despite the promotion blurb, you do need to scrape th...Read more
e bowl down. I miss having a timer on the unit and now have to use the oven timer. And I also miss the speed use guide on the machine that my previous two mixers had and now I find I am constantly checking the book to see which speed to use. Didn't come with a recipe book, which surprised me, given the promotional blurb @ how much more efficient this machine is to use. Overall, very happy with the machine, but not without it's niggles.1 comment

o see some of your recipe creations! Keep a look out leading up to Christmas on our website for any upcoming promotions on our attachments. In regards to speeds used when mixing, we recommend not using a higher speed than 2 for any bread dough or pasta mixtures. For flour, sugar mixtures (cakes) we suggest starting on a low speed for example, 2-3 to combine ingredients and then gradually increase speed up to 10. As ingredients are incorporated. If making meringue, we would recommend to start on a low speed such as 3-4 and increase speed to 10. Happy Baking! Kind Regards, The KitchenAid TeamSimilar opinion? Performed better than I could have hoped and it's very quiet.
Very satisfied with the performance and the motor is surprisingly quiet for the size of the machine. It included a flat beater, a wire whisk, a dough hook, a bonus FlexEdge beater,a pouring shield and two stainless steel bowls, one larger than the other. So far I've only used the flat beater which needs a bit of adjustment but you're told how to do this in the manual. It's not difficult.

Job Done Easy
I've only been able to use my Kitchen Aid a couple of times, however in the few times used it has made my cooking time so quick.
I bought mine during a mothers day promotion and it came with the spiral curler attachment.
So I was making lots of different vegetable spaghetti for a few nights in a row. Amazingly quick, easy and most of all healthy!
As for baking... and again only a couple of uses its been great.
I did have a little trouble not knowing which attachment head to use for mixing up my soft cream cheese to make my cheese cake, but once I tried both out I now know for next time.
Beautiful machine and when it comes to play I do have fun using it.

Beyond Disappointment!
Bought Artisan KitchenAid in October 2015. The whisk attachment and paddle work well when making cakes and batters however the machine is simply not up to making dough. I had less than 800g of ingredients in bowl and the dough hook jammed up and broke the turning mechanism. I took the machine back to David Jones where it was purchased only to be told to take it to the service provider - then I spoke to KitchenAid representative who told me that it would be fixed this time but only as a goodwill gesture AND should the same problem occur again...Read more
it would not be fixed again as they say this is not a manufacturing problem. For any that are interested - this machine has strict requirements when making dough - do not turn motor higher than 2 and do not fill the bowl with a weight heavier than 1kg. My advice is dont make dough at all with this machine. You have to take this very heavy machine to be repaired and you have to pick it up as well. That's 4 hours of driving for me - this is of no concern to the manufacturer - have a great day! PS: I cannot provide a proof of purchase as the service people have it!Similar opinion? Worthless warranty and no customer service
Steer clear they don't make them like they used to! It's overpriced rubbish. 2 breakdowns on one month. Dough climbs up the hook regardless the consistency. All the whipped egg gets stuck inside the whisk. The freezer must run 5 hrs continuously after placing the ice cream bowl with mixture or will be icy.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this machine
Got a great deal buying this with my Qantas FF points & have never looked back. I have absolutely flogged this machine lately making cakes for weddings and it has never faulted. Yere its a bit of a pain having to scrape around the bowl occasionally but I can live with that.

Awesome machine, wish it was a little more powerful
Just bought the KSM160 last week after dreaming of one for years. So far so good. Made some bread today and definitely the easiest, least messy home made batch I've ever done. Machine worked perfectly and was very easy to use and clean. The only thing i noticed was that even at speed level 4 (out of 10 speeds available) the machine was shaking visibly like it was finding the load hard to cope with. My friend has the kpm5 model which is slightly more powerful at 315W (this one is 300) and when she made exact same recipe her machine was a fair bi...Read more
t quieter and didn't shake at all. This made me wonder if i should have spent the extra couple hundred for the lift model. Other than that, extremely impressed. Also was very happy to see that it took less space than i imagined on my benchtop. Just ordered some accessories online, so will write an update once I've used some of those.Similar opinion? KitchenAid is a very heavy duty kitchen appliances and the motor runs at a very smooth speed and not noisy. I find it very simple to use as the attachments are easy to fix and remove. I love it very much. It is a great product for people who love baking.

A very good accomplace in the kitchen!
A fantastic aid from making a simple sponge cake to complex bakes. Various attachments for different uses such as dough, or buttercreams.
I would recommend this product to any baker from amateur to advanced.
We have never come across a problem with this product, and purchased it solely upon the basis of great reviews.

Oh for a Kenwood!
I am extremely disappointed with my KitchenAid mixer. When creaming fat and sugar it leaves far too much mix on the side of the bowl, and also in the bottom of the bowl. I have to keep stopping the machine and scraping the mix off manually so as to get the ingredients mixed properly. It makes cake making such hard work. The mixing paddle provided is not fit for the purpose and you are required to purchase an additional one (which should be provided anyway so that it mixes properly in the first place, as with Kenwood.) I think the design s...Read more

Much love gear.
I looked at tons of other stand mixers but nothing beats the KitchenAid. I remember my mother as a kid getting up and using her mixer many years ago to make dough, cakes and so much more. It's still going strong today 14 years on.
I love mine from using it to slice veggies for salad's and stir fry's to grinding and mincing meat for meat loaves and burgers and making snags to throw on the BQQ! This is a well loved investiment in my kitchen. I have used it for even doing Pizza dough it hasn't skipped a beat yet!

Cant believe I've lived with out it!
So i have been wanting a Kitchen Aid stand mixer since i was 20, a good 14 years now. And I said what the heck, go for it.
Now the pricing is insane here in Australia, compared to Canada/States, but none the less, it's been worth every cent. Making brownies, to mashed potatoes, and received the meat grinder as a free gift and purchased the ice cream bowl/maker as well, and while thats in the freezer, trying to find a great recipe!
It's every bit as sturdy and heavy as i remember as a kid. Die cast, and everything feel as though it's made ...Read more
from a solid block of granite. Clean up couldn't be easier, throw the bowls and attachments in the dishwasher, and they come out sparkling! it's truly a machine that could make everything. Cannot wait to make a Semifreddo, Butter, Whipped cream and so much more. Yes it was pricey, but with seeing that people have had theirs 30 years or more, I feel it's an investment, and will have it for some time. I originally ordered the typical Empire Red colour, but it came as the Ice colour, which totally grew on me, and loving the pale, pastel blue that is so retro.Similar opinion? garbage
Can't make 1kg of pizza dough. Noisy, unbalanced when mixing and covers you in dust when adding drygoods to the mix. These products are nothing more than plastic on the inside and these reviews are clearly written by company employees. Utter garbage. Do not buy, you will be utterly dissatisfied.

Speed Controller; Hello, can the speed control lever be used as "infinitely variable" or must it be clicked into the preset speeds ie 1 - 10. Thanks.
1 answer
The mixer speed is adjustable between the increments provided. Please note speed increases by units of 2 from 0 to 1 then 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10. Please note there is only limited speed adjustment between each of above speed divisions as at each of the above steps it clicks into the marked speed position.
