What is the difference between the Food Processor attachment and the slicer/shredder attachment?

The food processor is better as you can do more with it. It chops veges or slice them. The slicer/shredder merely just slice some veges and grate cheese.

Hi, I have a KSM 150 with the metal bowl with handle. I've used it maybe around 15-20 times to make bread dough in 6 months since i bought it brand new. The bowl now doesn't fit in tightly anymore as the metal base is worn out. Is this normal? It's a bit disappointing that the base of the bowl gets worn out so fast. I always make sure the bowls are screwed in tightly when i use it with the fear of the bowl coming lose and damaging the whole mixer. That's exactly what happened the last time when i made bread dough and turned my back for 10 seconds. Do you offer replacements?

Hello! I have just opened my kitchen aid (model KSM160 in pink) and noticed that the 'dough/kneeding' attachment has two deep dints in it! I'm super excited to start baking, but I'm hoping to get a replacement attachment? Do I have to take the whole set back to the store, or would you be able to send me a replacement attachment? I live in Ashwood, Melbourne. Thanks for your help in advance! Tash x

Hi, yes it is. I believe the only difference between the two models is that the KSM170 comes with a glass bowl only. There may be slight mixture capacity differences but the wattage and most other details appear to be the same. I had the same question and did my own comparison.

Belle AKitchenAid

Hello, The main difference between the KSM160 and KSM170, is the paint finish and bowl accessories. The KSM170 has a platinum metallic finish, and a 4.7L glass bowl, where as the KSM160 has a 4.8L and 2.8L stainless steel bowl. All three bowls will fit both of the machines as well as a selection of other glass and ceramic bowls available. If you have any further questions we are happy to help. Stand Mixer

I purchased a KitchenAid Model 5KSM45AWH (Classic Stand Mixer) from The Good Guys who told me that the $AUS448 was a promotional price to introduce a new model to the range. Have yet to untape & unpack the box, but having searched for this model online, I cannot find it anywhere. I am now really suspicious and would appreciate some advice as to the authenticity of this advice and the 'newness' of this model.

I’ve seen Classic stand mixers in the UK but I don’t think they are a new model.

Nanirei

I expect they meant that your model is an older one, and they are clearing them out to bring in a newer model, not that yours is new.

Belle AKitchenAid

Hello, The KitchenAid Classic Stand Mixer is a new model to the Australian market, that may be why you have had trouble finding it online. It is available in white as an exclusive to The Good Guys, and black with other retailers. If you have any further questions about your Stand Mixer we are happy to help. The actual mixer units are identical, the KSM 160 comes with two stainless steel mixing bowls, and the KSM150 comes wioth one stainless steel mixing bowl.

To be honest the smaller bowl isn't that useful as it's too small for most things you will make. While a 4.8L bowl sounds enormous it's really not very large and you can even do small batches in it quite easily. I whipped three egg whites in the larger bowl just fine. With these mixers you need quite a bit of clearance between your ingredients and the top of the bowl otherwise it spills out.

Hi, I received my KSM 160 today. Is it normal for paint to flake off at that back of the pivot mechanism when the head is tilted up? It doesn't seem right that it would be normal to wear the paint during a standard use of the product.
Thanks Leanne

Enquiries190

Hi Leanne, if by "back of pivot mechanism" you mean the vertical piece of metal which moves through the actual stand and supports the mixer head, then my answer would be no it is not normal. The paint is a baked enamel and is quite hardie. Possibly a miss-alignment on assembly?? No enamel paint should be falling off your brand new machine.
Suggest you take this up with your retailer.

carlie83
carlie83

Hi Leanne, you definitely shouldn’t have paint flaking off a brand new stand mixer... I imagine if it’s starting to come off where the head tilts, it will get worse very quickly!

I don’t know what’s going on with Kitchen Aid but the hub on my brand new KSM 160 started to fall off after I’d had it for about 3 weeks, they did the dodgiest repair ever using glue and it came back scratched and looking like it was 10 years old with the hub still loose. After a lot of fighting and 4 weeks of constant phone calls I got it replaced with a brand new one that came out of the box chipped, scratched and dented. The third replacement had a huge dent in the drip ring and I gave up after that...

I’d suggest not going directly to Kitchen Aid for any sort of help - I emailed customer service to complain after the third KSM 160 was also damaged and they honestly took 13 days to write back and even then, they didn’t offer any solutions and asked for the serial number... I’m still not sure which of the 3 they meant though! So yeah, they obviously dont have enough staff to handle all the complaints and don’t care enough to hire more staff to try to sort out customer issues.

Hopefully you have better luck than I did and the next one isn’t damaged straight up!

Hi, I recently purchased a KSM160 online from David Jones, due for delivery this week. In the picture used on the David Jones website it shows only the 4.8L bowl with the stand mixer, but it doesn't show the 2.8L bowl. Also in the product description, no mention of the 2.8L bowl. I've noticed on other retailer websites that KSM160 has both bowls. Does David Jones have a different KSM160 product exclusive to them?

Belle AKitchenAid

Hi Johnny, The KSM160 comes with the second 2.8L bowl, a couple of the colours on the David Jones website do not have the second bowl displayed. If you purchased the KSM150 however, this only comes with the 4.8L bowl. If you have any further questions, we are happy to help. Kind Regards, The KitchenAid Team

Hello, The body of the KSM160 and KSM170 is the same, they are both full die cast metal, the only difference in the body is the finish. The KSM170 has a platinum double coat of paint which gives a metallic look, whereas the KSM160 has the standard KitchenAid colours. If you have any further questions we are happy to help.
