Recently bought Anko air fryer but it has a very strong plastic smell when being used. Is this normal and how hot should the outside area get???

May be the 1st couple of times you get the plastic smell and should go away . If not there is an issue with the air flyer. Also ensure on the outside there is enough ventilation for the air to circulate as hot air do have to escape from the back. Generally I found the air outside do get hotter while the air flyer is running as the fan circulates hot air to quickly cook food in the basket from the outside in .

the smell from mine didn't go away but it wasn't noticeable while it was cooking, only when I wasn't using it. I live in a small space and the smell was awful so I would have to put it outside when it wasn't being used. The smell comes from the plastic casing on the top of the unit. Eventually returned it to Kmart. I loved the air fryer and would replace it in a heartbeat if I could get one odour free. I was also concerned about the toxicity of the odour. Shame. :(

BTW I've been sniffing the units at Kmart and it appears the larger model does not smell the same as the 3.2 however I don't want a big one and I think the controls were different.

Can I cook cakes in silicon in my airfryer

1 answer

yes, silicon tray can be used in oven and air flyer as they could withstand high heat.
Plus cooking in air flyer I never use oil and turns out better. Never add any oil for any food as the oil come from the food itself.

Can I cook a cake in the outer tray without using the basket with handle

No, you need the inner tray to close the air flyer. The cake will need to put on cake tray(butter or oil the cake tray) and fill with the cake mixture then placed on the inner tray. Then set to cake option. I try cup cakes and it turns out beautifully.

If you cook on the outer tray basket is behave like a conventional oven is like baking in the air flyer.
An air fryer is a lot like a counter top convection oven. It’s a small electric appliance with a heating element and a fan that blows air around in a cooking chamber. However, in an air fryer, the air is swirled very quickly in a circular fashion so it does a better job of reaching all of the surfaces of the food and creating a crisp crust. Plus, the food itself sits in a perforated basket which increases its contact with the hot moving air. Another thing that makes a big difference? The fact that there’s not much space between the walls of the chamber, and the basket intensifies the heat so it cook much faster than a oven .

If it doesn't say in the back of the instruction booklet, google it or take it back to Kmart. Further down this blog there are quite a few saying the same thing.

I had trouble at first too. As you push the button just lift the handle directly upwards. The whole handle slides out of the base. The button doesn’t need to be pressed too hard, and there is no real trick. I think I was overthinking the process. Maybe you are too? Good luck!
