Turbochargers
Have been a Land Rover owner for twenty years. Currently own, since new, a 2012 model with 108000 kms. Serviced as required, Great car to travel in, comfortable. However have recently had to have both turbochargers replaced. On speaking with Land Rover Customer Relationships Executive (twice) I was informed that before Land Rover would consider any action the vehicle would have to looked at by a Land Rover dealership. Both executives agreed turbocharger problems with this model are reasonably common. As I explained to the Executive I am ...Read more
some 500km from the nearest dealership, the vehicle is not driveable, and the cost of getting the vehicle to a Land Rover dealer would be from $800 to $1000. Adding this to the cost of repairs and no compensation from Land Rover I have had the repairs carried out by the local RACV service centre. I am deeply disappointed with the performance of this vehicle, but even more so with the dismissive attitude of Land Rover Australia. I am fully aware the the vehicle is out of any warranty claims, but as Land Rover admitted there is a problem with turbochargers with this model, perhaps there should be a factory recall or at least a more sympathetic approach to any customer complaints.Purchased in February 2021.

Fault with EPB
The EPB or electronic Park Brake is not a serviceable part but after 4 years the motor or actuator that controls the hand brake seized making the vehicle immobile and the part needed to be replaced at a cost of $1590 plus minimum 4 hours labour so over $2000 to repair a park brake

My Land Rover Discovery 2016
I’ve had my 2016 Land Rover Discovery 4 for 18 months now, and unfortunately believe the purchase was floored, and I should have stuck by replacing my 22-year-old 80 series Toyota Land Cruiser with a 200 series. While I liked the idea of a British Marque, the decision was my mistake, as I didn’t do enough research.
I did consider waiting for your newer model, but judging by the delays, uncertainty and no indication price or options, my instincts said No, which proved correct.
I took delivery of my 2016 Discovery, which was a run out vehic...Read more
le, in September 2016. In hindsight it lacked the options that I would now not accept for a modern vehicle. This is particularly the case with the GPS, which could not locate a street in Perth that had been gazetted more than five years earlier, and this is the market the vehicle was being sold into-very frustrating. Furthermore, where I live, I have totally given up on its reliability and nearly always use Google maps via Wi-Fi or my TOM TOM GO 5100 as the information is live and up to date. Furthermore, it doesn’t cost the earth, and it has lifetime maps for the whole world. (I appreciate there are updates now, but the hardware is hardly cutting edge, so lacking in any real usefulness) I don’t wish to dwell on my lack of judgement but we have holidayed in Europe recent years, and hired a standard VW Passat, and a Renault Kadjar. Each of these vehicles had All the top end features, including GPS Data, which constantly let one know whether we were speeding, including adaptive cruise control, which should be basic tools. And these vehicles are less than half the price of the Discovery, so why is this? Do their profits need to so high or your overheads so owner us. The Land Rover Discovery 2016 is a box on wheels, and the current vehicle looks like someone has set off a hand grenade and blown it out on all sides. But then the new local dealer in Bunbury said that you get used to it, and it grows on you.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Most versatile vehicle on the market. Air suspension makes sure of it.
Air suspension is a game changer in this market, once you have it, you won't buy another 4x4 without it.
Parts are expensive in Perth, although if you are within warranty you can relax knowing you have the best warranty service by far. Land Rover assist will go above and beyond if you ever need help(I never have).
Once out of warranty or fixed price service, you'll want to be ordering parts(bushes wear out after ten years or so), directly from the U.K from places like Advanced Factors(just get a part # from your mechanic, delivery takes 3 d...Read more
ays). Things to love: Comfort while on corrugated tracks like Gibb RIver Road, Tanami, GCR. The hardest thing to do is have restraint on the throttle as you'll feel like you're on the highway with the correct tyre pressure. Brakes that work- there's a reason why those 18" wheels are on it, because 3.5t doesn't stop quickly with anything less! Air Suspension- Not having to put 2 or 4 inch lift in which you will do to every other 4x4 once you bottom out a few times. Access height allows easy entry for pets & grandparents.Similar opinion? Great SUV and Family Car
This is a great versatile family SUV. Has all the luxury trimmings you would need. Driving performance is great - very low noise especially for a diesel.
7 seater flexibility can fit the extended family - very spacious inside. High riding height ensures great visibility for the driver and passengers all around.
Dislikes - as an older model - misses out on some of the latest gadgetry - ie. blindspot monitoring etc.

Nothing but the BEST
Owned a 2008 Freelander 2 which took me around the country including Cape York. I liked it so much I bought a 2012 Disco 4. Disco is quiet at any speed, very comfortable, spacious and practical, ride very well, smooth easy power at all speeds. Tried Victoria high country with ease. Love the unique exterior design and Discovery 2017 is not for me.

LEMON - AND LANDROVER ARE HORRENDOUS TO DEAL WITH
LEMON! This vehicle has so much potential, but if you don't like constant safety issues and major repairs, don't go near Land Rover. Not only did our Discovery 4 break down on a motorway just 6 km off the showroom floor, Land Rover refused to replace it with a new car, and instead kept it for 14 days and replaced the blown gear box, which had failed after 6 km. The trauma wasn't so much that our brand new car broke down on a main road during peak hour and I had to direct B Double trucks around our car stuck in the right lane of a major Sydne...Read more
y arterial, but the way in which we have been treated since. Land Rover took weeks to respond to our request for a new vehicle (far be it for the consumer to insist on a new vehicle when they just paid for exactly that 30 minutes prior to the major failure causing this brand new car to be towed) and Head Office not only refused to replace the car, but their insistence that it has been 'returned to manufacturers specifications' has failed over and over again. We have had the following issues: 1. Major gearbox failure at 6km requiring new gearbox. 2. Steering arm loose - major safety concern. 3. Continual oil leaks from where the gearbox was replaced (it has been removed twice so far and continues to leak) 4. Major steering vibration on the motorway so the car now sits idle in the driveway, unable to be driven far and at speed above 60km/h. If Land Rover had any customer service skills whatsoever, this would have been rectified long ago. They treat customers with disdain and, although they offered an extended 2 year warranty, this car has been in and out of the repair shop so many times it is simply a lemon. Latest request to have it repaired now falls on deaf ears at the local Land Rover franchise. They want to wipe their hands of it (they say our car being repaired under warranty will mean they are out of pocket!) and won't respond to emails, won't return phone calls. The most stressful experience ever, when your dream car, full of potential, sits idle on the driveway. The way we have been treated has caused so much stress, I cannot warn you enough not to buy a Landrover. Save yourself the grief. Now onto Fair Trading.......Similar opinion? Love my car
I love this car. I have one baby and a second on the way and it's got some much room for everything you need to lug around with 2 kids. This car is a heavy vehicle which I didn't like at first but since driving it for nearly a year I can't stand driving any of those cheaper light vehicles. They just feel so unsafe. Also being a diesel it did take a while to wear it in as it was a bit touchy for a a few months but now it's smooth sailing.

D4 - much more than a 4x4
After 150,000km I say more than enough power to make pulling a 2.2 tonne caravan all over Australia a pleasure. Powerful acceleration if needed. Handles like a well- bred car and has brakes that are superb. Excellent vision, excellent wipers and outstanding headlights. Low to moderate road and engine noise, little wind noise.
Interior: especially seat options including full-foldown centre and rear seats give outstanding cargo space; 3rd row seats are adult size with easy access. Extensive storage areas including twin glove boxes. Air bag susp...Read more

Best car Ive ever owned
Ignore the Nay Sayers these cars are brilliant. Ok so they are on the big side but they are surprisingly agile and easy to park. Weve done many miles in our Disco on all sorts of roads and tracks, towed trailers and carted stuff up and down the countryside. The disco has never let us down. Ive owned equivalent 4x4s like Toyota and Nissan but they dont come close to the driving experience of my Disco. The 7 seats and space, combined comfort and overall ease of driving make long journeys a pleasure. If you keep the servicing up and drive it luck the type of vehile it is you will get years of function snd pleasure out of your Disco. Trust me. Drive one and you will be converted

This is my 4th Landrover Discovery 4
Reliability is great. I have just recently upgraded from a TDV6 to an SDV6 (single turbo diesel to twin turbo diesel) the power difference and torque is very noticeable not that the TDV6 was under powered at all. I upgraded because you can never have enough torque or HP. The fuel consumption has however shown some impact with the upgrade, not exactly sure if it's due to more power or the way I've been driving! The 7 seats is a full 7 seats, very comfortable and spacious unlike its competitors where the 7 seats feel like an after thought and jus...Read more
t cramped. In summary, it's a luxurious workhorse that handles beautifully like a sedan than a tank. I have been driving this car for almost 3 1/2 years and it still smells new, the leather has held up under intense conditions (2 kids, multiple camping trips). I've taken it on sand dunes and mild 4 x 4 tracks and it performs beautifully. I'm so sad that this is the last model of its kind. I don't think I'll get the Disco 5 as it is not as aesthetically pleasing and I think its lost the balance between luxury and a workhorse. Hopefully Land Rover will come to its senses and return the design to its original Ethos.Purchased in November 2021 for $94,000.00.

Very pleased, performance, reliability, comfort and fuel economy
The car is a pleasure to drive for my wife and myself, we tow a 19'6" van with it without any problems at all, to a point of not really knowing it is there. The interior is comfortable with good leg room all round, the sound system is a pleasure to listen to with road noise being monimal.
Operating costs after 3 years has been low, the first service was performed by the dealer but very expensive, the second service 12 months later was performed by a local mechanic and was approximately 25% of the cost and using the same oils etc. Service can't be recorded in the Land Rover computer system, but I don't care about that. Next service is almost due but will use the same mechanic.

Bit different
First new car for 16 years, so is a big change, change from manual, wind the windows to all auto. So far so good, interior plastic is a little disappointing, the expensive interior protection did not cover the plastic, so out with the Armorall.
Pain work is fair, not the best coat of paint I have seen, it has a few blemishes.
The Disco is great to drive and cannot wait to hitch the van and go for a long drive.

30,000ks disco towing dream
Over 30,000ks most of it towing our Coromal lifestyle 635xe, in the first year. Queensland to Victoria across the Murry to Mildura. Oodnadatta track, Jabiru, then the Kimberlies, el Questro on the Gib river road, west coast, Nullabor and home. 16.5 litres per 100ks average whilst towing, 9-11litres around town and not towing. The tow assist is fantastic, tdv6 diesel so powerful and the padels for gear changes great for down hills and off road. Most comfortable 4wd we have ever had. Meridian sound fantastic. Rear camera even focuses on the tow-ball when hitching the van. Great drive Disco Dream.

A Pleasure To Own The Discovery 4'
I wanted to try a Biggish Diesel 4WD Wagon. We owned quite a few new cars in the last 30 years, from a Gemini, Corolla, 2 Commodore V8's, a HSV Monaro,Subaru Impreza - very thirsty'+Nissan X-Trail & Murano Ti's. Never had a bad time with any really & I thought the Murano was special as it was luxurious & virtually maintenance free until we took the Land Rover SDV6 on in 2014 optioned with Sat Nav, Premium sound & Tech Pack. It's big and looks a bit daunting but the cabin is so well designed you feel at ease right away & once on the road it's re...Read more
markably easy & comfortable to drive. The paint and upholstery finish is superb. The rear seats will all lay flat, it's huge in the back you could sleep in it no problems. The engine & transmission are sweet' heaps of power. You wouldn't know there's a V6 diesel under the hood it runs extremely quiet & only at idle you can here the distinctive diesel rattle. I like to use the paddle shift when slowing on hills especially to save the brakes pads a little. However it does throw a lot of brake dust on to the alloy wheels which is annoying and the standard tyres are all but down to the wear mark indicators, we have only traveled 32000 klm's, it averages only 9.0-11L/100ks. We tow a 1500k boat & it just shines towing. The car really is great and the best vehicle we've owned, it's mainly used as a town car & my wife just loves it. Not cheap but the value is there. Drive & price up some upmarket Toyotas and you will see what I mean. Was keen on a Prado Kakadu but found it way to under powered and harsh at 70-100kph & $95000? Prado drivetrain is to outdated for the money. Have since updated to a new 2016 HSE. The Steering &Suspension have been Refined. So has the Engine Management ..Smoother and More Responsive .The New Car has Vastly improved Sat Nav & Cameras + Lane change Monitors in the mirrors.Took a while to get used to these but they work a treat. A trip to Surfers from Wollongong returned 7.9L/100. My boat Trailer Lights are not working when plugged to this car so there's an issue there as they work of my mates Ranger. And some Fallout spots were on the cars duco from new which wasn't good for an expensive Car. Found them the next day as I didn't expect to look for that on a new car at the dealership.. Got to be on your toes these days no matter what you buy. Trailer lights turned out to be a blown fuse .We just returned from a trip out to Junee-Mildura-Broken Hill-Cobar-Dubbo-Mudgee-Lithgow and home to Shellharbour .4 Adults & Luggage. Fuel Average was 9.4L P/100. 2,650klm's all up.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Amazing car
Purchased a discovery 2015 sdv6 in February 2015. Have done around 10,000ks with absolutely no issues.
Amazing car to drive, oodles of torque, stacks of appeal on the road and great interior space. Great family car. Surprisingly economical to run given size.
Only complaint is aircon defaults to "fresh" every time you stop the engine, so need to hit recirc every time you start.
First land rover and I am a convert now!
Will upgrade to new disco hopefully in 2020.

Smooth and Hassle Free
Purchased 2012 SE new. Never had an issue, taken it bush, never missed a beat. The 4WD system is superb. Very happy and currently looking to change over to a new 2015 model but this time with Read Diff option for a bit more peace of mind off road. Excellent family car, surprisingly nimble around town. I've sat in the back with a mate on a road trip with both of us nudging 100kg and over 180cm and it was surprising comfortable, not cramped and plenty of headroom. A genuine 7 seater.

I'd only change one thing...
Puchased a new SV4 (turbo diesel) delivered in Jan 2014. The car has been reliable and has lived up to every expectation.
I have 19" tyres and the car has done pretty full-on off road forays and it hasn't missed a beat. The off road modes are brilliant. Deep, soft sand that is common in WA are no problem (with tyres deflated). The car certainly can keep up with the best in class.
We tow a near 3.5 tonne boat and it makes our V8 petrol Landcruiser look under powered. We get 15.5 l/100km versus Landcruisers 26l!! This in the hilly section Norse...Read more

Love my Discovery
I love this car. This is our 6th disco and every one has been better than the previous model. We tow a 26 foot van and it will still accelerate up hills if needed. The power from the motor continues to impress, but the torque this motor produces combined with the 6 speed gearbox makes it phenomenal. At 100kph, when towing, the motor sits on 1600 revs. Can't wait to get the new model with the 8 speed gearbox. Land Rover has a reputation for reliability issues but I can honestly say I've never had an issue that concerned me with the 6 discos I've had.
power, ride, turning circle, towing ability and the gearbox.
bought the s model and it doesn't have an outside temp gauge.
