Great backpack child carrier
I love this backpack. We bought it 6 years ago to carry around our first child (9 months old) during an overseas trip. We still had our lightweight pram, but when access for pram is not possible eg footpath in Asia, places with a lot stairs or hills, or even boarding onto the plane, then he went into the backpack. It also allowed me to have two free hands. The backpack has generous sized pockets, allowing us to put the baby stuff eg bottles, nappies, spare clothes, etc without having to carry another baby bag.
Once we had our second child, t...Read more
hen one of them would go into the backpack while the other into the pram or walk if they're not tired. This allow me to look after two kids, while the mom can do/carry other stuff. The kids always love the ride, or The backpack is well built. I found the weight loading is well distributed around my body. I can carry our child for hours without feeling pains. I did try to carry our eldest who is now 20+kg, and I still can do it quite comfortably. I think the frame definitely helps you carrying heavy loads. Note that small built moms like my wife would probably find the backpack too big and heavy. Hence she doesn't use it. She is only around <50kg and around 145cm. The BabyBjorn or the ERGObaby styles suit them better. We have them as well. But IMO they're mainly for babies or young toddlers. good weight support, plenty storage, rugged design, has matching accessories eg sunshade and rain cover a bit on the heavy side for small built peopleSimilar opinion? Good
I love my backpack and use it almost everyday for the past 7mths to walk the dog along a bush track. I have taken it out for a 2 hour trek and my girl has fallen asleep (without the sleepy head) I bought this 2nd hand for $150 with the sombreo but I did see it on www.macpac.com.au for $175 new. I plan on taking this with me to Bali in 8 weeks time. I did have it when I went to Thailand but decided to take my Quinny Zapp stroller - I saw other parents with the Possum in Thailand and I wished I had bought mine especially to walk through markets...Read more
etc. My girl loves being in the backpack so much that she'll pull it out of the wardrobe and climb into it, so that's gotta say something! It gives me 2 free hands! It's comfty for me and I'm pretty sure it's comfty for my little girl (now 16mths), plenty of storage room, sturdy and am able to leave child in the seat on the floor without it toppling over Bulky when not in use

Excellent
We bought the Macpac Possum in preparation for overseas travel with our infant son. He's been VERY comfortable in there and even manages to sleep (with the help of the Macpac Sleepyhead). The storage space is just perfect for all the baby stuff we need to lug around with us.
It can be pretty expensive for what it is, but you do get good value out of it. The convenience it has given us is well worth it!
Comfortable for both the carrier and the passenger; perfect amount of storage space available; folds down small; very lightweight; hard-wearing fabric.
Can be a bit pricey.

Good
A great backpack, which we can still use with our 3 year old son and will use with our daughter once she gets older. Overall, a good investment, with good resale value on ebay if you choose to sell.
Nice and light with plenty of storage space, my husband and I starting using this with our son when he was around 6 months on longer hikes (basically when he was too big for the baby bjorn). He regularly fell asleep in it - which was cute. The sun cover is worth paying extra for as we used it a lot. You can fit all nappy change stuff, plus water...Read more

Is there any foot support for the child? Some other brands have stirrups to alow the child to ease their sitting position, i haven't noticed these on the Macpac
1 answer
Hi, no stirrups or foot support.
I don't know if I'd like stirrups actually - just another thing to adjust or get your child's feet into. I've used mine for 2 kids and 3rd is due soon and will being busting it out again - a good indication as to how much I value the pack

Our 17 months old daughter keeps sliding out of it sidewards. I don't know what we are doing wrong. Any suggestions for help? We have tried everything we could think of.

Umm I'm assuming you've probably tried what Im going to suggest but here goes ...extend the straps for the seat all the way out so she sits down as low as possible in the pack, tighten up both sides straps and you could buckle her in with the straps that go over the shoulder (I never used these straps with my 2 kids though) Make sure that the Wearer has the pack on snugly/tightly - not too tight that its uncomfortable though - this is the only time I've felt like my kid was slipping to the side and taking me with her or when they're moving around a bunch reaching for things - when I was wearing it loosely. I use both straps clipped in, chest height straps and waist straps. Hope it helps!

is it easy to clean? can you put fabric to washing machine?

To be honest I haven't cleaned it since getting it! (Don't judge me!) However that thought recently crossed my mind. The insert that holds the child I 'think' is removable otherwise it looks like you'd have to chuck it in the bath and hit it with a scrubbing brush. I tried to get rid of mine the other day but my husband almost cried. He's still using it weekly with my 2nd daughter who is 3.5yrs old.
Thanks for the answer.

rgotten the change mat, I can put the pack on the floor and lay him on top of it. (Side that would be on my back goes on the ground and he lays on the pocket/front side of it) Great investment but I see they're not making these anymore.
