Could be worth a try . . .
Decided to try Marley Spoon as we didn't want to go to the supermarket and there wasn't much stock available even if we did go. We bought 4 meals for four a week (ie 16 serves per week) and then made 2 serves most nights and 4 serves one night freezing the two we didn't eat. This way we can take a break every few weeks and go back to some of our regular meals and eat the Marley Spoon ones we froze from earlier weeks.
The produce we got the first week was excellent. Fresher than what we get at the local supermarkets. The produce the next two...Read more
weeks was still pretty good but not quite as good as the first week - sweet potatoes were smaller, we got half a stick less celery than the recipe called for, 2 tiny spring onions instead of one big one, etc. The chicken was excellent and the steaks quite good but they are different thicknesses and sizes so cooking time varies, the mince was not as good as we normally buy (it was a lot fattier we usually buy extra lean). The sauces, spices and condiments provided were all very good. I think I could buy the same amount of ingredients locally for about 50%-60% of the price normally. However, it is great that there is no waste as you get exactly what you need and the worms in our worm farm eat very well from all the vegetable trimmings as there is a good variety of vegetables if you choose your recipes carefully. Also, as it keeps you away from the supermarket you tend to buy less overall so we have actually saved money. It has made me decide to go back to meal planning and only buying what is needed for those meals. I entered our preferences for types of meals/ingredients on the website but the meals suggested were usually not the ones we preferred so I edited them each week. I found it disappointing that the only seafood available seems to be salmon as I prefer other fish like flathead, sardines, whiting, etc or shellfish like prawns, mussels, pipis, etc. We were also disappointed that you tend to get the same veges over and over eg sweet potatoes, carrots and cucumber. We also found most of the meals to be quite bland even though I tried to select the ones that sounded like they would be spicy. We would add our own chilli, ginger and garlic where possible. Deliveries have all been on time - usually within 30 minutes of the opening of the delivery window - the last one actually came 10 minutes early. You can edit meals up to a month ahead and you can skip a week up to about a week before it is due. You can also cancel your subscription if you want to. We found the recipes fairly easy to follow and most looked like the photo on the recipe card when finished but it usually takes the two of us working together about 1 hour to prepare each of the meals as each one is new. We found this very tiring and were really looking forward to the week where we took a break from Marley Spoon so we could go back to our regular 30 minute recipes. It is nice to try new things but I don't think I could do this fulltime. It does give us ideas of things we can do to change our regular meals and allows us to try things we otherwise wouldn't. For example, we made olive tapenade to go with the steaks one week and I liked it so much I now make it whenever we have steaks. I think we will go back to our normal meals now that the supermarkets are better stocked again and incorporate some of the Marley Spoon meals/sides we liked (you get to keep the recipe cards that come with the ingredients in your delivery). We might order Marley Spoon every now and then for a change and to get new ideas - probably in the weeks where they have several dishes we would like to try. We will also go back to weekly meal planning and only buying what we need to make those meals and will probably start doing click and collect from the supermarket to avoid impulse buying while walking around with the shopping trolley. Overall, I would recommend Marley Spoon but with a few provisos.

Quality food, great instructions and tasty
I have used Marley Spoon for about 6 weeks now. I have been consistently surprised with the freshness and quality of the food, the long use by dates, the excellent instructions and the variety to select from.
I order 3 meals a week and out of all the meals we have had there was probably two maybe three that I was just a little underwhelmed by. Initially I was just going to try Marley Spoon then try some of the competitors and then decide which to stay with - but I have been so happy with the service, quality and meals I have just stuck with them. Definitely would recommend.

Food is OK, when it arrives
I am happy with the quality of food and the recipes - but not very happy with how inconsistent deliveries are.
I was happy to support these guys but am getting sick of deliveries not turning up and turning up late.
Good then it works, frustrating when it doesn't.

First time, never again.
Ordered a box, delivery instructions not followed. Box not delivered. Offered a refund and $25 credit. Told that for my time slot drivers are instructed not to buzz or call, instructions clearly state to buzz. Box was left on the footpath of a busy road in front of apartment building. Told they can’t send a replacement box today as they don’t order excess, customer care don’t actually care they just give generic responses. No offer to speak to a manager or adequate compensation for their company policy which lead to the box being stolen. Will not be using again.

Very pricey to an automated recipe Without a Choice
Because of an automated subscription, which I did not get any notification of the cut-off date therefore did not get to review the meals for the specific week- I also get sent out and charged for meal kits I did not choose.
The price per box is costly which was debited automatically from my account. The only notification I received was that the delivery is on its way and was unable to do anything about it. Be very cautious about getting into this...you can get caught big time.

Dinner sorted!
We've been doing Marley Spoon for the last few months now. We both work full time and get home pretty late. Having meals already sorted takes the stress out and makes evenings so much more enjoyable. We had a couple hiccups with delivery but they sorted it out quick smart. Meals are great and recipes are easy to follow. Recommend 100%.

Saves our family from eating nothing but pasta
It's pricy, the vegetables aren't always the best quality, their fruit boxes are horrendous, but we will never stop getting Marley Spoon.
Without it, we would eat nothing but pasta. With a 2yo and a 4yo, I'm pretty burnt out when it comes to dinner. I don't want to think about it, and yet I have to do it every single night.
Marley Spoon gives us much needed variety, and exposes my kids to different food cultures and flavours that I just wouldn't have the energy, knowledge or ingredients to do otherwise.
Highly recommended for burnt out mums.

Great meals, super easy
Love Marley Spoon, makes it a whole lot easier to plan out the rest of the food shopping when 3+ dinners are already sorted. Have cooked food I probably wouldn't normally look at & it's been really good for me & my boyfriend. Food quality is great & I think it's a great idea to be able to cook for yourself.
Only complaint is without discounts it can be a bit pricey, so we will skip some weeks when the recipes aren't interesting.

Poor service, very average food quality, low value compared to other meal services
Poor customer service, difficult to gain any type of response, no phone available, tough low quality proteins, withered veg. Final communication with what seemed a robotic email reply service failed to even address noted issue that I went to trouble to send. No further time to waste, just wish to show others to avoid this terrible meal service

Can't live without it!
Best decision made was to order this home delivery. No wastage, great recipes and everything can be recycled. I thought I would try it for a month but it's so convenient and I am not wasting extra money with impulse buys at the supermarket. I was bored with cooking but this has given me back my spark.

I am totally understanding of the increased demand these guys are under but as a 3+ years customer I have just received the most ridiculous and patronising and crap email telling me why they can supply old meat and short measure.
I’m flabbergasted that I would ever receive a response to a valid complaint like I do today.

Rip off
We were offered a free trial pack as a gift from our daughter. Marley Spoon took our credit card details for the postage of $8.95 and the pack duly arrived. It was OK at best but certainly not value for money. Then to our amazement a further $76.45 was taken from our card for the next delivery - the day after the first delivery. We had not requested this delivery and in fact had not had time to cook and eat everything from the first delivery. When we requested a refund we got a lot a verbiage about the T&Cs but no refund. It's a rip off and sharp practice - avoid them

quality of the produce was very poor
I received my first box.
The vegetables that were part of the recipe were soggy and seemed to have been frozen and defrosted. The ginger was so soggy,I could squish it with my fingers. The cucumber was so soggy, it burst all in the brown paper bag.
the avocado was so green, it was not usable in the ingredients.
the fresh herbs were brown, soggy and were not fresh.

Foul food, crap service, small meals
This is the 3rd time I've been charged for food i do not wish to purchase. Marleyspoon should send a text message making people aware that there is an order being placed on there behalf, NOT just when the delivery has been sent and therefore already purchased. I tried marleyspoon and I was incredibly disappointed by the size and quality of food, especially compared to other companies providing the same services for cheaper. I have keep my account active for a backup in case, and each time suspended the account for the maximum amount of weeks. I...Read more
f customers do not even view the website or new menu and do not select their choices, they should be at least notified before hand that an order is going to be placed for them. The suspension time is also only a short period, hence customers should be made aware that the suspension has ended and subscription has been resumed with orders of randoms dishes, which you have no choice in paying for reguardless of how foul the choices are. These are obvious techniques to scam people out of their money, and has evidently left marleyspoon with countless customers believing the same thing, that this is terribly service. WHY do this? Scam people out of their money in a time where this amount can drastically effect their living arrangements.1 comment

Not bad Customer Service as some reviews say
I am not a fan of the chat bot but if you ask if you could speak to a Customer Service Representative, you might have to wait a bit, but someone alive (and nice) actually comes up to help you. I got refund on the spot for a missed delivery. Love your work, please keep it up, and I hope my next box arrives safely.

I love the convenience of getting food delivered to my door and not spending extra at the shops every time I go.

Great recipes and such a time saver
We love getting our Marley Spoon delivery every week. There’s heaps of recipes to choose from and we’ve never had one we haven’t liked. The noodle, rice and pasta dishes are often pretty big portions too so there’s enough to put away for lunch the next day. We never really properly cooked anything outside of a couple of dishes before so it has also taught us how easy it is to make healthy and delicious dinners.
The only con is that it is a little expensive but when you think about the time your saving by not going to the shops as much or thinking about what to have for dinner I’d say it’s worth it.

Just wondering when did Marley Spoon start charging delivery.
I don't need to do an order every week so it's been about a month since i had last ordered and was surprised when seeing that a higher amount than usual had been taken out of my account.
After checking was surprised to see there was a delivery fee included.

Hi Naomi,
Thanks for reaching out. We had a price re-structure come into play October 1st, 2022.
Since launching in Australia, 4years ago, the cost of fresh meat, vegetables, fruit and dairy have increased substantially. More recently, the harsh drought affecting our Australian farmers has meant that these costs have continued to climb to a point that is no longer sustainable for us to maintain our current pricing.
We are still wanting to live up to our values of working with Australia's best farmers and suppliers, which is why we adjusted prices.
Two weeks before this came into affect, there were 2 emails that were sent out to all our active/skipped customers to let them know what was happening. The second email was sent a few days later to those who hadn't opened the first email. I am happy to send those through, if you would like to view them. Please send through the best email if that is the case.
If you have any further questions or feedback, please feel welcome to reach out to our Customer Care team at [email protected]
Thank you,
