Not a good experience
We switched from Mate ADSL to Mate via NBN. The switch over was far from smooth. First try to link up to the NBN ended in us having to get a technician out to make the modem and router actually attach to the NBN. Then our home phone was disconnected. We were told it would be a couple of days before it would be working. After a week we contacted Mate to be told Telstra had cut us off rather than "port" our home number. Mate then offered to redirect calls to our home number to our mobile, but failed to tell us that we would be charged for every c...Read more
all redirected. After another 3 weeks we finally got our home number working again, but then got a bill for redirected calls totalling $72. Mate agreed to waive that amount but told us we were going to be billed $38 for setting up the redirection!!! Not impressed with Mate at this time! At least our internet speed is apparently better than before. I say apparently because we have not noticed any speed improvement with NBN, but a speed test says it is considerably faster???

We can confirm that you were advised incorrectly regarding charges for phone calls made during an Exchange Based Diversion (EBD) and we sincerely apologise for this. This was a mistake by our sales team and as such, we have refunded all costs for these calls due to the above mistake. We acknowledged that this was our issue and this has been rectified. Great service
The NBN connection has been faultless, no dropouts to date. Only issue was getting the NBN serviceman here, very tedious, but they were helpful as well, when they finally got here.
MATE communication with me throughout has been of high standard, cannot fault their customer service.

Great in communicating line problems and fixing times (not many issues anyway) huge $ savings compared to other companies. Always talk to a aussie when calling up and no long waiting periods either! I highly recommend using mate communicate.

Very good quality of service and internet
Like every Internet provider there was a few issues, it's expected some times, and they dealt with the problem immediately. They sent a technician on the next day to fix it for me. The service they provide is much better than big Internet providers in Australia. Very happy with that, I would give more than 5 stars.
In every company there are issues and a good company deals with them professionally. Good Job!

Great provider!
Connection is reliable, rarely have issues. I've had to call the support team twice - once with set-up issues and again with a modem problem. Mate offer a call-back service (meaning your not sat on hold going nuts), and the team are friendly, knowledgeable and really helpful. Can't fault the service I've received so far.

Mate are an excellent company with brilliant customer service. Darwin speeds are lacking
I have had wireless nbn & now fibre nbn with mate in Darwin. They were a great help in getting the wireless nbn connected at my residence as I was on the edge of the service envelope. The change from my wireless account was seamless. However The 12/1 download speed is only about 2 mbps in Darwin on a fibre connection.

Run of the mill internet but a wonderful customer service
Whilst we did have only the base package (and perhaps our connection may have been better with a more expensive package) there were some evenings when our connection could have been better. The odd email took some time to load and every now and again a netflix movie would stop to buffer.
The main attraction to Mate is their honesty and transparency. I would absolutely recommend mate, every time I called they were extremely patient, helpful and empathetic to helping find a solution to any problem I had.

Good customer service let down by their upstream provider.

Having just finished cancelling my service I must say Mate were very professional and their customer service was excellent.
Unfortunately their upstream provider was the root of the below issue which in the end was not resolvable.

Every day from 9pm to 11pm your connection will be borderline unusable.
I pinged www.google.com and was timing out for >24 seconds consistently.
I was unable to any voice communication programs (Skype, Discord) without the other party sounding robotic.
Loading gmail took more than 10 seconds to load.
This should not be happening on an NBN connection.

Non-Communicative Communications Company
The NBN was meant to be installed multiple times and it kept being delayed with multiple excuses.
Whilst I understood that it was not Mate's issue, the communication was lacking.
Now it is has been installed we have not had any issues with our service and the one time we had connection issues we had great support on the phone from Mate.

We are sorry to hear that your nbn technician appointment to connect the service was delayed. As you have stated, new nbn connections are managed by nbn directly using private contractors. This process is not something we or any other re-seller have any control over. In saying that, we do understand that any issues with connection are incredibly frustrating and reflect poorly on our own service, and we constantly raise these issues with nbn. With respect to our lack of communication, we can confirm that you received a phone call within 24 hours of the nbn appointment being missed due to adverse weather. We have reviewed your account and you also received a total of 10 emails and 7 SMS messages from the time you signed up with us until the time your nbn service was connected. Can you advise what other communication you expected? We are always looking at ways to improve our services and would value any more specific feedback. In the meantime, we are glad you found our Aussie customer service a positive experience and hope that we are able to exceed your expectations moving forward. You knew on the day that the nbn appointment was cancelled and then contacted a day after when we had already lost a day's work. You might as well have not contacted us at all at that rate and as stated there was not adverse weather that day, the NBN technician installed my friend's NBN less than 1km away. You did not follow up on this crap excuse. You did not advise us of issues until we contacted and had a go at you. You began to get us in the loop after we told you that your communication was poor. We asked for email or phone updates to be kept in the loop. We had to give you a kick up the bum to actually start communicating valid information and let us know where things were at. We demanded phone calls back. We asked for emails. So yes, count them if you may but some of these are simply order confirmation details and are automated. The valid emails (from a person) telling us what was going on were in fact less and only after we requested such updates. I would not even count those SMS messages as they were automated appointment reminders constantly telling us to press Y to confirm (often more than once for the same appointment and then only to be cancelled yet again or in one case had already been cancelled and we were sent a reminder for a non-existant appointment). There was no "person" in this - just a bot. That's not communication. That is buggy programming and automation and somewhere along the way, someone failing to update appointment times. You did not care for us as a customer and you did not really care about the financial impact it was having on us for having multiple cancelled appointments where we had to "be home" and miss work. It was an extremely upsetting and dis-satisfactory experience. Thankfully the support when we needed it was positive or quite bluntly, we would have swapped providers immediately. We were at the end of our tether. If you want to discuss this further and genuinely care about improving, you can contact me directly. You have my number. I will get into specifics with you. Just to clarify, we did not and most of the time do not know about the appointment cancellation on the day. This is communicated to us overnight via an update in the nbn portal. Unfortunately, in most cases, the customer finds about any delays before we do. We are unable to control this as it is an nbn process. In regards to appointment reminder SMS messages asking you to press Y to confirm, these are sent by nbn directly and is also not something we can control. We simply provide nbn with your details as part of the order, any communication directly from nbn or the technician does not come from MATE. Totally faultless Mate gets it right again.
Mate sorted out our mobile phones and ADSL debacle a couple of years ago. Not a single glitch since. Recently, we 'finally' got NBN FTH installed. Thanks NBN. Mates kept us totally informed at every step, on each glitch, until the job was done. Not a moment of difficulty as Mate simply got the accounts re-sorted and it all runs smoothly. So different to some of the comments on social media from 'non-mates' people. I recommend Mates to all of my friends and associates.
