A pool cleaner with a premium price but also with its share of issues
I have now owned a Dolphin X40 Plus for eighteen months. Previously I had used a Polaris Sport 3900 which lasted for 8 years after a rebuild kit was required after two years into its use. After the rebuild and up till the 8 year mark, it proved to be a reliable cleaner. However, I was advised by the highly experienced person who helps maintain my pool equipment to buy the X40 over buying another Polaris, even though he did not sell them and thus had not ulterior motive for providing this advice. Thus I am comparing my experience with these ...Read more
two pool cleaners. I have a small pool and it does not normally get large amounts of leaves and debris and thus falls well within the supposed capabilities of the X40 Plus. Where the X40 Plus is superior to the 3900 Sport is its ability to filter and remove very fine particles due to its filtration system. However, when compared to the 3900, it is inferior in a few areas:- 1. Namely the size of the leaf capture container is a lot smaller than the bag on the Polaris meaning it has to be cleared out much more often, which can be an issue if you happen to go away for more than a week. Where the Polaris would suck up twigs and larger leaves without any issue, the X40 Plus is unable to, meaning they stay on the pool floor and require manual removal. 2. Lead Tangling - others have mentioned this issue and I concur. This occurs despite following the instruction manual and advice on how to detangle the lead on a regular basis. It is a very frustrating design flaw. 3. more it tends to avoid cleaning the corners of the pool despite reading the troubleshooting section in the manual to try and work out why. Overall, so far it has been a more labour intensive and frustrating experience to own this pool cleaner than the Polaris. The Polaris overall was a set and forget type cleaner which only required removal of debris from its bag once every couple of weeks.

Useless for large litter and cable tangle is unacceptable
The X40 Plus is good for fine particle cleaning but very poor with large leaves and is useless with larger pieces of bark and twigs which block the throat of the basket almost immediately. Chord tangle is terrible, requiring a lot of effort to fix at the end of every cleaning cycle. The manual is very poor with no clear explanation of what the diagrams are intended to mean and absolutely no explanation of the control panel functions. For the relatively high cost I'd advise against purchasing this cleaner, especially for those who get plenty of leaf litter blown into their pools.

ts size and it is recommended to remove these from the pool, where possible, prior to the robot being set to run. Cable maintenance is an important step in ensuring the life of the cable. Great if the cable didn't tangle
My experiences is pretty spot on as the previous review, the cleaner would be great if it didn't constantly tangle itself. For the first couple of months i had no issues, I followed the instruction where the manual indicates to regularly lay the cord out in the sun. But this seems to make no difference, agree with the other reviewer, very poorly engineered. Save your $$$$$ and consider other options.

Find out how Maytronics Dolphin X40 Plus compares to other Robotic Pool Cleaners
Know better, choose better.
Tangles constantly
When it works it’s great. However it only cleans half the pool. I’ve had it replaced. Same issue. The cleaner tangles itself up no matter what you do. Very poorly engineered. Ive done everything suggested - no difference. Sounds like many have the same problem.

Hi
Customer service responded very quickly to my issues. They are now replacing the lead and adding a swivel. Cleaner itself is fine. Was only the tangling issue. Well done guys.

Best investment I made for our pool
I was considering various pool, cleaners for a new pool wemjusncommisionec in our back yard. I was having trouble cleaning the walls and waterline. I dicusscused this with Poolwerx’s Somerton Park Adelaide and they recommended the Dolphin X30 or X40. Initially, I was put off by the price compared to traditional suction cleaners. After some deliberation, I thought the price compared to the investment we put into the pool justified buying one. We decided on the X40 as it had a caddy and bluetooth connectivity.
Having had this now for a few mon...Read more
ths, I can say it’s the best investment I have made. I could not get the pool,as clean as the:X40,can. Just drop iitmin the pool, switch it on and let let it do its thing. Fantastic results. My wife wa dubious but she has now christened it Jawsmas it climbs the wall, surface and the cleans the waterline. That leaves me with time to do other things knowing Jaws will leave my pool sparkling clean. Expensive but worth it. Also recommend Poolwerx Somerton Park for their no,pressure service and advice. My Russian Groomasked
A swivel cord question: I have been using a demo X40 plus from my local PoolWerks in Perth. I like the product but the tangling of the cord (as per product reviews) is going to put me off buying it. I have googled your M400 which has a swivel cord but am unable to find a supplier in Perth. Surely there is a simple solution. I am making my mind up in two days so I hope you reply quickly!

Hi! Poolwerx stores are able to upgrade the 18 metre blue cable on the Dolphin X40+ for a cost. We do also have several dealers in Perth that stock the Dolphin M400. If you would like the details of your closest dealer, please email your location and postcode to our Customer Care Team at [email protected], who will provide you with the details.

I bought the Dolphin X40 plus from your retailer Sydney in October 2018, still under warranty. While it can move around in the pool, the unit lost suction completely and failed to pick up any dirt. Please instruct me what I should do next to get it fixed.

Hi Dennis. In the instance whereby debris is not being filtered, it may be that the ultra-fine filter cartridges are dirty or clogged. If so, it may affect the robot’s ability to clean. Filter cartridges are able to be soaked in cartridge cleaner or a mild dish-washing detergent and warm water solution to assist in the removal of in-grained debris that may be difficult to shift when rinsing the filters under a tap. Please do not hesitate to our Customer Care Team via email to [email protected] or on 1300 693 657 option 2 for any further assistance.
Thanks for your advice. After cleaning the ultra-fine filter cartridges as suggested, the unit has been working fine.
