Little awesome zippy car!

published

The car handles well since it's quite small. It can be agile when there are not many passengers, but you can easily feel the extra weight when you go to accelerate if you have 3 or more people in the car. Nonetheless I've had no issues with this model so far.

Perfect small car.

published

Purchased second hand my Mazda 2 is incredibly cheap on petrol and runs smoothly. One of the quietest cars I've driven and also the easiest to drive and park. It may look small from the outside but is actually quite spacious inside. It does hit potholes quite hard though but I try to avoid them anyway.

Perfect for my needs

published

Purchased a used 2013 Mazda 2 to replace my previously crashed old car, and it has been great. No issues so far, runs smoothly and looks pretty. I haven't used the boot or the back seats much though, so unable to comment. From what I can tell, it has decent fuel mileage but haven't counted exactly.

My 2011 mazda 2 is an amazing car to drive and is amazing on fuel. I put 98 premium in and it costs $42 for a full tank of petrol. Is comfy car to drive and has everything i need. Is a great little car for someone just starting to drive.

Decent little city car

published

It's not going to see the world on fire in terms of driving experience but it's pretty good compared to Toyota Yaris and slightly older Toyota Echo I drove extensively in my uni days. Good interior and reliability but service costs were slightly higher than I was imagining after previous Toyota I had.

I am very unhappy that I only drive my car a few kms a week and only have 34,0000 kms. But I have a major steering problem and its out of warranty
The seats are comfortable but I would not buy another Mazdda they are costly to repair and unreliable

This new little Mazda is awesome!

published

Well I have bought a new 2015 Mazda 2 Hatch, traded the other one in.
Have had this for a few months now and Boy! I find it absolutely amazing in all aspects!
The ride is so smooth, the noise is minimal, the power is there (for a 1.5 Litre it's great).
The Petrol consumption is out of this world, with me getting nearly 800km to the 42 Litre tank.
Great 3 year warranty with extra three extra extended free as long as I service it with Mazda.
Comfort and interior is also great!
Push button start something new to me and I love it!
No bad things to say about this awesome car!

A lovely little Car

published

Bough a Second Hand 2010 Mazda 2 Neo three weeks ago with 62000km on the Clock,it is perfectly maintained and looks great!
I have already put another 1200 on her in the three weeks and it is going great.
get up to 620 km on a tank (42.Litre) not bad !
I have heard that these can easily give you up to about 300000km with good looking after and regular servicing!
Looked at the new Mazda 2 Neo but am not too sure on the new Stop/Start Button they use! Wonder if they will last!!??
Cheers

A fantastic wee car

published

I bought my 2011 Mazda2 auto here in NZ just 2 weeks ago. Due to unforseen circumstances I have already raked up way over 1,000kms in it since purchase. Verdict - a zippy and comfortable car which also took more luggage than I thought it would. I am getting 16 km/litre (bout 45 mpg in old figures). It looks smart and is smart. I am very, very happy with it.

Just did a top up this afternoon after my leisurely drive (95-100kph) from Nelson to Christchurch. Topped it to the very brim. Got 18.03 kms/litre. Outstanding economy for a 1.34 litre automatic car.

uses too much petrol i agree with you.

published

i don,t know where they get km petrol from these days, them so called reviews, mine mazda 2 uses way to much .i had a mazda 1.8 motor and it was much better on fuel than this 1.5 and a more powerful engine. the government should look in to it.and the new mazda 2 i don,t believe their results either.l

Great little car

published

Bought new in 8/2011 car now has 38000ks after 3 years. Around town fuel is 6 litres/100ks and on the open roads sitting on no more than 100kph my wife gets around the 5 litres /100 ks. We have only ever used premium fuel. Car is always serviced every 10 k not 15 k by the book. Would we buy another ... Hell yes !!

The best small car by far. Reliable, funky & smooth. Hard to fault. Better then Nissan, Mitsubshi or Hyundai offerings. A real car for the money

Solid as a rock. Easily get minimum 450 km per tank. Drove from Carrum to Maryborough and back with 2 adults 2 kids and overnight luggage on a single tank of fuel- JUST. Do the figures. Love it!

Still love it. Great little car. I'd like to correct myself from a previous answer. It has a timing belt. Not a chain. 100,000km change. I won't lose sleep over it.

mazda2

The Mazda2 is one of the best cars it owned, it has never let me down once in over 65,000 km. Generally I don't keep a car for more than 4 or 5 years, but this small Mazda2 is such fun to drive and it uses little petrol. I think I will keep it for a few ore years.
Joy to drive, even on long distances. Low on fuel.
If i had to choose one thing, the engine is a little noisy. at high revs.

What year did Mazda 2 start using soy based coating on wires?

3 answers
Cat
Cat

This was an interesting question as I was not aware of it. I have tried to contact the dealer who sold me the car who had no idea about it, and asked me to contact Mazda directly. I have sent Mazda an email on 1st Jan 2022, and is still waiting to hear back from them. I will update this once I get a reply.

RBM
RBM

Thank you! I also emailed Mazda and the reply was a "best guess" as the person did not work in the actual parts department, but to his knowledge Mazda uses only plastic not soy coatings on wires. I did ask a follow up to let me know if he got more accurate information. Funny thing was that person at Mazda had purchased a Honda that had soy and it cost him $2200 bucks in repairs from rodent damage. My mom's Honda..over $1200. To me this soy issue is as big as the takata airbag issue and it is industry wide. So far, the auto manufacturers have avoided taking responsibility inspite of numerous class action suits.

Cat
Cat

Yes, Agree. This could be the tip of the ice-berg.
In 2016, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Toyota claiming the company should cover this type of damage after a customer was forced to pay around $1,500 to fix the chewed wiring under warranty.

I also own a Mazda 2 2007. MAXX nothing but troubles, rattles rough idle at lights too.
Paid for 3 bloody engine mounts, sensor, air filter, had to dealer so sick of it now. Seems to be on a real low ratio when starting up to 40 after that it's ok in higher gears. Auto. Had engine cleans, starting to think it is a lemon.
Very disappointed.......any suggestions?

For those who are having fuel economy issues, im from NZ so we only have years no maxx sport or genki variants. So is there a certain year that has issues..1.5 or 1.3 cvt or auto?
After a wee car like this but it will do a 200km round trip to our closest city 1 x a week, then of course small trips around our small town.
Fuel prices are going up..want economy without having to go to a hybrid. Looking at 2nd hand mazda 2 or demio 2009-2011
So any recommendation/advise would be appreciated
