Mazda2 Genki issue
Good little car, though I just took it to get a blue slip (roadworthy) and it failed! Due to a bad oil leak and a ticking noise which turned out to be electric sparks flying in the engine. It's in to get fixed with Mazda but they were unable to give me a replacement car which is really inconvenient considering I bought it brand new to avoid this sort of thing.
Easy to park, good on fuel.

It's a 2011 model, running very well now. Seems to have been a one off issue.

I use to have Toyota aurion and traded it in for this one.

The car feels solid and well made. As a not very tall person I found the seat adjustment on the driver's seat excellent and can see out very well. Three adults can fit in the back with plenty of headroom for 6 foot plus guys. The petrol tank is listed as fitting 45 litres, but I have never put in more than 35 litres when flashing empty and this has lasted me about 500 Km. Great power going up hills for a small car!
Very economical and zippy to drive. Lots of room inside and driver's seat adjusts for height.
Clutch can be a bit touchy if you are not used to it.

I love my little car. I know a few people who own one and they are all very happy with their purchase too. I would certainly recommend this car for someone who doesn't need or want a large family sedan.
Just about everything, especially the price! It's bigger than it looks. At first I thought it was a bit small, but then I sat in it and found it quite roomy. Then I drove one and I was sold. I like that it's quite high - certainly improves visibility when driving. I actually like driving this car. It's great for driving around town but there are no problems with 110 km on the highway either.
I don't like the red back light at night - I find it difficult to adjust to. Yellow or blue would be a lot clearer at night.

I bought my Mazda2 just over two years ago. I am still really happy with the car. It is great on fuel. I have had it serviced at my Mazda dealer every 6 months so far. The cost has ranged between $150 - $190. They have been really helpful and checked out any little problems I may have been experiencing. I needed to get a new electronic window switch and they replaced it absolutely free of charge as it was under warranty. They always wash my car too when I take it in.
Stylish, well built, great post-purchase customer service

I very much like the Mazda 2 and recommend it as a reliable, stylish, small car. Because it has a reasonable boot size, and space in the back seat, it is a practical car for trips, grocery shopping and for having passengers.
My new Mazda has been going well. I love it's styling and it's funky green colour. It's quiet and has a reasonable boot considering it's size. The gears are closer to the dash than normal and I think this is one of the best features. I find it very comfortable to use the gears. Good stereo system as standard. As a shorter p...Read more

Heavy on the gas
Great car bright green, but the high pitched noise when you get up to 100km,when you take your foot of the gas it stops then when you put your foot on the gas it starts up again. You get quite a headache by the time you drive for a bit. Anybody else have this trouble
Reliable, inexpensive, feels lovely to drive, high seats, easy to get out of and into.
High pitched noise. glove box it weird.

I love love love my Mazda. It has required very little maintenance and performs well under all circumstances. Even though the inside is quite small, it doesn't feel that way. It feels roomy inside even in the back.
I love everything about my Mazda 2. It is stylish, pretty, and wonderful to drive. It is excellent on fuel, has enough grunt to get up hills with ease and corners really well. It over achieved if anything.
I really don't dislike anything about my Mazda 2. There has not been a situation that I've found that the Mazda could not handle itself.

I have never really been a big fan of the Mazda until recently. Since 2004, Mazda has changed and improved to a new level of competitions. The main reason I believe is its new elegant design and powerful engine at such a great price. I had a Mazda 3 hatchback. It wasn't the best car but it was definitely a great car to drive. The Mazda 2 sedan is similar but more affordable and easy to get around. Excellent city car.
Beautiful and stylish design. Good on fuel. Nice and fun to drive. Easy to park.
Can be a little bit noisy at times.

By far the best I've owned, great features. Was comparing to the Honda City decided to go with due to the better features i.e ESP, alloy wheels, 6 CDs stacks and most importantly price! Cannot the Madza 2 sedan you will not be disappointed.
Fuel efficient, massive boot room, safety, excellent drive. Great value for money.
High rear definitely need the rear parking sensors. Only get one remote key.

Amazing value for money.
The deign of this car is perfection inside and out. Outside the lights are so well styled you think you're driving a sports car.
A small rubber button opens the boot with ease to two different heights, while the hydraulic system makes it feel like you're not lifting a thing.
The back doors in the 4 door version also open to two different lengths so there's no worry about banging into other cars when you're parked.
The interior dash has a very sporty speedometer etc. with glowing blue and red lights. Very nice fo...Read more

As for the lights on the gear shifts - You have to rely on the screen embeded in the dashboard to realise if you are on D,R,P,N. You will get used to it! but it would have been great to have lights there! it's odd !
Otherwise, i found the M2 a really good buy. It's quiet, good handling and pretty good looks. Go slow on the humps though! I bought the M2 NEO,Auto w/o safety pack, Black for $19750 (after $150 rebate from the dealer) driveaway.
Hope this helped.

Drove the current model Yaris before this. The Mazda 2 is like the devil in comparisson. It looks amazing and has a much better driving feel and really makes you think less rationally. It really is a stunning car for its class and with the metallic green paint it turns a lot of heads (all female though). This is a girl's car that I'm happy to be seen in.
Sadly, it only has 1 storage compartment (the glove box) which itself cannot be locked so there is no where to protect your valuables. This is a critical flaw in an otherwise amazing package...Read more
. Also, the middle and rear pillars are serious blind spots and you'll find your head twisting and turning at near break-neck angles before you'll be confident that there are no objects to your sides and closer to the rear. Still, these issues are worth it for what I believe is one of the coolest and most drivable cars in its class. Stunning metallic green paint. Sporty look and feel for a budget light car. Fun to drive. Pathetic number of storage compartments and drink holders. Auto guzzles fuel. Many blind spots in cabin.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Love the 2
I found this car (2007 Genki) searching for any late-model small car to replace my 1997 Hyundai Excel sprint that was dying a slow death piece by piece. I have to admit it was the metallic green paint that first caught my attention.
Four months later and I am very happy with the 2. It has a great little engine - for a 1.5 litre 4-pot rated at 76 kilowatts - it is very, very good. The fuel economy (depending on how I drive it) ranges from 6.9 to 7.5 litres per 100 kilometres around town. On a couple of runs so far in the country it retur...Read more
ned about 5.8 l/100k. My car has excellent handling in corners - actually very sporty - lots of fun. Gear changing is fairly short throw. The clutch is very firm and responsive. Very firm ride - great car if you like to feel all the bumps - such an improvement on the hyundai excel that wallowed through corners like a whale on a bed of helium. Steering is nice - little input and heaps of response. And then there's the looks - it turns heads and gets nice comments from many people. I am now known in certain circles as the `green flash' and `green hornet'. Hilarious. performance, economy, good looks, handling, ride2 comments

I absolutely love my Mazda 2 NEO. I am 40 and acquired my licence in March 2009 and decided to buy myself a brand new car. This car was always on top of my list and it reigned supreme in it's class. I chose the Aluminium Mettalic and it looks really cool. I feel safe in this vehicle, have not discovered any black spots when driving, the dashboard looks stunning in the night time, air con is brilliant and the 3 Door is not a problem, esp if you have no children. By the way, the boot is very roomy. I love my car.

Beautiful car car to drive, comfortable, economical, well built and stylish. It deserves to have better quality trim, a proper glovebox, and more spaces to store things. A better automatic transmission would make a world of difference but overall we are very happy with it, and if it is like every Mazda we've owned, I've no doubt that it will be reliable and a pleasure to own.

This is a great car to zip around town in. With a good turning circle overall design it is easy to get in and out of spaces. Comes in a variety of stunning colours. My biggest issue with this vehicle however is the high price paid for a base model and very little interior features. The car is very basic inside and does not really offer any more than the previous model. It is only suited to a smaller driver as there is not much leg room. The seats are also not the most comfortable. A nice car externaly but disapointing inside
A flash little design with good fuel economy
Quite a high price for very little features

The new mazda 2 has come a long way from the previous models and I could not be happier with my car. It its spacious, looks great and travels smoothly. It has a lot of power for a little car and I have had no dramas with it at all. The green is what attracted me to it from the start and I haven't stopped loving it.
Mazda 2 comes in a huge variety of different colours, including the lovely metallic green. They are fuel efficient and come with loads of great features, such as 6 stacker cd player, roomy and power windows. The Maxx and Genki come with mags and nicer seat coverings also.
The fuel tank is small so while it is extremely efficient, I only get around 550 out of a tank before filling up.

In the six months that I have had the car it has been faultless. Which is more than I can say for my other car a 2005 Honda Accord V6. The Mazda2 is an outstanding small car. Optioned the car with the safety pack and automatic transmission. When driving around town it is hard to believe it is only a 1.5l engine. Ended up buying the key-less central locking after the first service and installed it myself - very easy to follow instructions. I found using the key almost ended up damaging the paint as I fiddled to find the key hole. The key-less sy...Read more
stem pays for itself by protecting the paint. The car has what appears to be a differential whine at approximately 60 ks. Has anyone else found the same thing? The main reason for purchase was the brands reputation from past experience and and the fact that Mazda is still Made in Japan. Intend to dump the overrated Honda for a new Mazda6 when the new model comes out next year. Very roomy. Automatic very zippy around town. Fantastic fuel economy. Very impressive headlights - especially low beam. Build quality. Very easy to get in and out of. Three adults can sit in the back seat easily with head room to boot. Fold down and slide seat system easy to use and practical. Glove box a little too small - no where to put a full size street directory. High roof makes washing difficult even if you are 180 cm tall.1 comment

What year did Mazda 2 start using soy based coating on wires?
3 answers
This was an interesting question as I was not aware of it. I have tried to contact the dealer who sold me the car who had no idea about it, and asked me to contact Mazda directly. I have sent Mazda an email on 1st Jan 2022, and is still waiting to hear back from them. I will update this once I get a reply.
Thank you! I also emailed Mazda and the reply was a "best guess" as the person did not work in the actual parts department, but to his knowledge Mazda uses only plastic not soy coatings on wires. I did ask a follow up to let me know if he got more accurate information. Funny thing was that person at Mazda had purchased a Honda that had soy and it cost him $2200 bucks in repairs from rodent damage. My mom's Honda..over $1200. To me this soy issue is as big as the takata airbag issue and it is industry wide. So far, the auto manufacturers have avoided taking responsibility inspite of numerous class action suits.
Yes, Agree. This could be the tip of the ice-berg.
In 2016, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Toyota claiming the company should cover this type of damage after a customer was forced to pay around $1,500 to fix the chewed wiring under warranty.

I also own a Mazda 2 2007. MAXX nothing but troubles, rattles rough idle at lights too.
Paid for 3 bloody engine mounts, sensor, air filter, had to dealer so sick of it now. Seems to be on a real low ratio when starting up to 40 after that it's ok in higher gears. Auto. Had engine cleans, starting to think it is a lemon.
Very disappointed.......any suggestions?
it is dirty fuel injectors which can be cleaned
Spark plugs? Engine mount, are you RPM low? Drivebelt,DriveShalf,CV's
Ide might need adjusting

For those who are having fuel economy issues, im from NZ so we only have years no maxx sport or genki variants. So is there a certain year that has issues..1.5 or 1.3 cvt or auto?
After a wee car like this but it will do a 200km round trip to our closest city 1 x a week, then of course small trips around our small town.
Fuel prices are going up..want economy without having to go to a hybrid. Looking at 2nd hand mazda 2 or demio 2009-2011
So any recommendation/advise would be appreciated
