Great car, dreadful electrics.
I bought a top of the line Mazda 3 Astina hatch in December 2017. Let me first say that it is a well built car, and great to drive. It handles well on the road, and deserves it's reputation as one of the best selling small cars in Australia.
But the electrics (at least on my car) have been nothing but problematic.
1.Since new, the blind spot monitor has given false indications on the driver's side (alarming, when there is no vehicle in the blind spot) The light often comes on for a couple of minutes. This makes the system a little use...Read more
less, because you are unable to trust it. After a couple of visits to the dealer, who couldn't find a fault, both modules (left and right) were replaced under warranty. But the problem still exists. On an empty road, the driver's side still alarms on regular occasions. 2. On occasions, the red 'brake immediately' light would come on, with nothing in front of the car. On the third visit back to the dealer, they found a fault in the forward facing camera, and replaced it under warranty. This seems to have fixed the problem, but it did take a couple of visits to recalibrate the camera. 3. The optional front parking sensors are problematic, in that they come on randomly, while stopped at traffic lights, or simple manoeuvring the car, with no obstacle in front. Mazda must recognise this as an issue, because on the factory installation, they provide a button to turn the front sensors off while driving. Why should you have to do this? In summary then, the car is great to drive, but I would not recommend purchasing the top model with all the electronics on board. The car has done 10000kms, and I am getting irritated by the need to keep taking it back to the dealership for more tests.1 comment

What a fantastic car
The 2.5 litre engine combined with the 6 speed automatic, sunroof, 18 inch alloys, 4 wheel disc brakes, BOSE surround sound speakers with a graphic equalizer makes this a very comfortable car to drive and spend time within. The only issue that I could fault this car is the "ISTOP" feature. This turns the engine off when you are sitting at traffic lights or stopped in traffic, to save you fuel apparently ? I just find it very annoying and a bit disconcerting, so EVERY time I get in the car I have to switch it OFF.
That said great car, saved a lot by buying a 2017 model.

Great car
I really enjoy driving this car. Performance from 2.5 litre engine is perfect and handles really well. Economical for a large engine. Really hate the fact that Mazda refuses to provide an update to MZD connect for Android auto and Apple play. Running costs are reasonable, service costs Could be lower

Manual Mazda 3 SP25 ASTINA
Guys please be careful if you buy the manual Mazda SP25 Astina, I got a brand new one last year and I was not happy with the transmission. Changing gears NOT smooth as a new car should be. To make matters worse, on the 3rd gear, the shifter vibrates heavily when I accelerate and you can hear the vibration which ruins the whole driving experience. Mazda confirms this is normal. I will get something in writing from them soon telling me this is normal, but they have confirmed on the phone that this vibration is normal for this car. Had I known this before buying the car I would have though twice as even though Mazda says this is normal, I do not have confidence in their answer.

Love it other than seat issues and night time reversing camera.
So easy to drive. Front seats comfortable other than the headrests which must be suited to someone over 6ft. Pushes my head forward even though I have the seat partially reclined. Love all the safety features though it took a while to get used to the different sounds of each warning. Had problems with original Sat Nav - never worked from when we first drove out of the showroom and took some 4weeks before they would look at - said they fixed but we had drove only 200 metres and it was obvious it didn’t work - then another few weeks for replaceme...Read more
nt unit to be fitted. No problems since. Disappointing that the top of the range does not have front sensors or electronic seat adjustment for front passenger. Reversing camera at night has a lot of reflection and can be difficult to see but daytime it is very clear. Overall we are happy with our purchase and feel very safe in this vehicleSimilar opinion? Impressive 2017 Mazda 3 SP25 Astina hatch
This is our first Mazda. I am impressed with the quality of the finish and the value for money, having purchased it on 'M' day, Sepetmber 2017. The handling is particularly impressive, whilst the lane-assist has been very usefull. I like using the fuel meter and usage display which helps to keep fuel economy at a impressive level. Performance seems good and I have had no issues with going up steep hills. With the cold weather the heated front seats are excellent whilst as the weather has started to warm up the aircon seems to be more than up to...Read more
the task. Whilst life in the back seat can seem a bit tight no adult that has been in the back seat has complained about lack of comfort or leg room. Although it is still a very new car I am very happy with our purchase and have not had any issues with it.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Hatchback Love
We are in love with our 2016 Mazda3 Sp25 Astina Bm, we've had it for almost a year now and it hasn't skipped a beat. It's fun to drive with all the added extras like sunroof, awesome sound system and adaptive cruise control which makes long road trips a breeze (wouldn't get a car without it now!).

Update as at 5/1/19.
en highway, with no traffic in sight. Mazda acknowledge that there is a problem with the system, and they are 'working on a fix'. In the meantime, the system is unreliable.Car has just received a 20000 km service, and most bugs have been ironed out, with the exception of the Blind Spot Monitoring System.
