Excellent vehicle
We have had our diesel CX5 for a year now and very happy with purchase. Ride, handling, power all very good.
Ease of entry excellent (We both have back problems). No mechanical problems. Economy good but not as good as claimed.in the sales blurb. Only criticisms are the under size spare and the lack of instructions about updating the GPS when it suddenly disappears after a year or so.

Nice solid car. Suited for young families in the suburbs. Power is slightly below average. Fuel cons
Before I start, I need to disclose I am use to driving high powered sports cars (e.g. 370z, SS Commodore) and it took some time getting use to the significantly lower power of the Mazda CX-5.
For a young family, this is a well priced vehicle with adequate space and reasonable comfort. It is aesthetically pleasing and has a clean look without being packed with too much gadgets. The Maxx Sport model (Petrol version) was adequate for our needs as it was not worth getting the extras.
One of the small downsides is during moderate / low gradient ...Read more
hill climbs, the vehicle is under powered and the vehicle needs to rev high. Another issue is the actual fuel consumption - currently between 9.5 to 10 litres per 100km (mainly suburban driving with 2 passengers and no lead feet). To make matters worst, I am using 98 octane fuel from Shell. I have used 95 on other occasions and fuel consumption is noticeably higher. Whilst this is acceptable, this is clearly more than the advertised claimed 7.4 liters per 100km.

I love my CX5 Akera
I have owned this vehicle for 12 months and cannot fault it. I purchased it as my retirement vehicle, as we wanted something that we could step in and out of with ease. The added features of rear park assist camera and sensors make it a breeze to park. The heated seats have been very good for my lower back issues whether as a driver or passenger. The istop feature is great and easy to use, love the blind spot monitoring. All in all a lovely vehicle to own and drive.

Great car, bought second hand and love it. It now has 80 000klm on it and iIwould definitely recomme
Excellent car, love it. Average 7.1 litre per hundred. Keep service on time and limit small town runs and it won't be an issue. If you like small town driving the petrol motor would be suite you as it does not get the diesel in the oil issue. Great build inside and out. Highly recommended.

Best buy I ever made
I bought a CX-5 Maxx Sport Diesel in September 2014 and it has just clicked over 20,000Kms. I have never owned an SUV before and being honest, I was pretty sceptical about them, but the CX-5 really changed my view. Instead of driving like a small truck ( as with some other SUVs ) the CX-5 really does feel like a larger hatchback. Steering, handling and ride are all excellent
I know that there are stories around about rising oil levels in the diesel models and other related problems, but I am sure these are very rare in models from 2014 onwa...Read more
rds. I know at least 6 people who own these and none have had any issue at all. The diesel engine is a cracker. Smooth, quiet and powerful with fantastic performance. It just eats steep hills for breakfast, even with 4 adults aboard and overtaking on the highway is never any problem at all, just squeeze and go. My long term fuel use average is 7.3L/100KM and although I am no leadfoot, I don't drive like grandma either. Gripes are fairly minor. I am not a fan of the front on styling, the seats are too firm and the headlights on low beam are only just adequate. Servicing is also expensive and must be done twice yearly in my case and at $350-400 a time it isn't cheap. Plenty of other cars have 12 month service intervals and I don't see why Mazda cannot do the same. Also, the stereo is complete crap and sounds lifeless and muddy Reliability has been perfect with zero issues of any kindSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Mazda CX-5 maxx sport
Cannot fault this car. Great to drive on long trips, heaps of room. Fuel is 8.7 litres per 100kms, which my Mazda SP25 used exactly the same as the CX-5 and SP25 had same 2.5ltr motor. But after driving the 2 ltr motor there is no way I would buy this car without the 2.5ltr motor worth the money and extra cost of petrol. Other than that, very good car.

Feels Like A 4x4
Great boot space for little one's pram plus luggage and or shopping. It's a nice drive hasn't been any problems. I don't particularly like the passenger seat has no button to raise up or down only back forward and the back fully collapses but not a major disappointment. Air conditioning could be a bit better, takes ages in real hot summers and there's not much directed to the back seat but otherwise a good buy!

Very Mixed View
My car had the diesel in the oil problem. Fixed by the dealer. The headlights are atrocious on low beam. Very unsafe when used on open road with oncoming traffic. The beam only extends two car lengths. There is no option and the dealer checked the height and it is as per regulation. I feel it is dangerous on the open road. High beam is good.

Battery replacement costly...ouch...i-stop save petrol?
Got my new CX 5 FWD 2.0 at 2013.
It's a lovely car to drive. However, after almost 2.5 years, like other guys said, master warning light flash, i stop not working. I recharge the battery, top up the water level. In the past few weeks, it works sometimes.
Then I rang up the dealer, he said that battery only comes with 12 months warranty. To replace the battery, it will cost $600(battery design for i-stop). Ouch....
I got a friend to test it, he said it still pretty good, but not as good as before.
Although I enjoy the i-stop function, BU...Read more
T does it really save you much petrol to cover the COST to REPLACE the battery. In my own opinion, I don't think it's worth it, in compare to other normal battery like $100-200 and give you three years warranty. Although I love to replace with genuine battery, but cost more and only 12 months warranty. I will really think about it. Other brand, slightly cheaper $400+, but three years warranty.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

CX-5 AWD
I bought the cx-5 awd base model new in November 2013. It ticked all the right boxes for me. It is spacious for a family of 3 and fuel efficient . I did check out all the mid range models on offer including the subaru forrester and Toyota, but technology wise found the skyactive engine in the Mazda very good. Fuel efficiency is about 10.5 to 11.5 km/ltr under normal driving conditions.
The SUV is very sure footed and drives like a hatch. The fun is in driving on winding mountainous roads where you can throw the SUV around like a hatch. It is...Read more
very sure footed and is a drivers car. My wife and son love it . It is a very fun to drive vehicle and economical as well with the istop feature really standing out. The servicing option of 12 months or 10,000kms is very handy and costs $350 per service. The vehicle has been serviced 2 times and the dealer has done a good job of servicing the car which is capped price. I did not opt for the mid level and above as I felt I do not need them. The base model comes well equipped and I had to add only the reversing sensor and auto headlights. If Mazda had given the safety feature option with this model I would have taken it. That is the only negative that I can think of. Otherwise I am very happy with the SUV.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

VERY disappointed - Continual issues..
I brought the 1st generation of the CX5 and it has been nothing but trouble.. First it was the GPS system, took about 6 times back at Mazda to get fixed to working condition then... over the last year i have taken my car to Mazda 4 times with issues with the istop, the master warning light come on and the istop flashes.. My warranty is up at the end of the year and if i cold afford to sell it and buy another car I would. I had a Kia before my Mazda, it had a 7 year warranty and never missed a beat.. very sorry I sold it!

Great Car... as far as audio goes.. well
I love my CX-5 don't get me wrong, its a great car. I got mine in Jan 2014, and it is the previous model. The car has been reliable as all get up, the fuel economy is good but not as good as i was promised (i get around 11/100) and the car is such a pleasure to drive.
mechanically the car is sound, but you expect that from a Japan built car BUT..i have had nothing but issues with the audio system (a problem i think they gave up on when the replaced the stereo in the 2015 model with the M3 stereo)
1) iPod playback is terrible, always re-scans...Read more

Great car to drive
Purchased car new in 2012. It is the Grand Tourer Diesel model. The drive train is excellent and the diesel engine has loads of grunt. At approx. 20000km the turbo pressure sensor vale failed and was replaced with modified version under warranty and rental car provided free by dealer while my car was off the road. No problems in this regard since. At 27000km the iStop light started flashing together with the red triangle emergency light. This fault was spasmodic. Spoke with service adviser and he told me my battery was the problem. I wen...Read more
t to independent battery outlet and had battery tested with result that battery was fine although not at peak capacity. When I had car serviced at Port Macquarie Mazda I instructed the service manager to replace the battery (Cost $400+). Upon picking the vehicle up service manager told me battery was fine (so didn't replace battery). He told me that cause of iStop light flashing was because I did short running. Problem continued so I rang Mazda Australia and their rep was very helpful. He more or less agreed with what PM Mazda told me however before starting the vehicle to turn off the air conditioner and rear de mister and ensure the front wheels were straight ahead. Immediately after starting the vehicle I turn the air conditioner on if needed. This has stopped the iStop flashing at all. Battery is now over 3 years old so I am watching its condition carefully. PM Mazda told me to ensure battery replacement is the correct type and that they cost over $400.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Diesel in oil
bought my cx5 diesel in May 2014 new.The oil light is coming on and according to Mazda it needs more frequent service.Which is crazy because of the service cost.I am hoping that the dipstick Mod.and software upgrade will fix the problem. If not I could be in deep trouble ones the warranty period expires.
I am certainly not going to put up with this, what would be my best course of action.
What about consumer affairs.thank you Dietmar.

Good comfortable car but has a couple of glitches
Bought GT new in 2014 and done 10,000 km. Happy with the car as it is well built and drives very well. Fuel economy disappointing although dealer says 11.5l /100km is normal!. Satnav useless - has you on a different road telling you to turn onto the one you are already on! Apparently know navigation issue waiting on updates

A reliable, comfortable and economic car
I do 1,000 + km per week with 90% on highway and average speeds of 79 kph. Have had this car new since January 2014 as a change from my previous Mazda 6 diesel (same engine) which I put 165,000 Km on in 3 years. Have done 75,000 Km in the CX5 to date including some long hauls with 3 passengers. All comment on the quietness and smoothness of the drive (19" wheels). Fuel economy from log is 7.1 litres per 100 km compared to 5.7 litres per 100 km on my diesel Mazda 6 - same tripping. 1st tyres lasted 66,000km so replaced with same. Mtce, rego,...Read more
fuel, insurance costs to date are 17.25 cents per km. Serviced every 10,000 kms. Windscreen replacement cost can be expensive (not included in above figure as replaced under insurance) - shop around - 1st was $1,500 through major dealer - 2nd was $410. Love the car, its handling and comfort. Only gripe is iphone interface - takes too long to sync if you have a lot of contacts or music and is clunky and the Tom Tom navigation system is too out of date (even with paid updates) and too expensive to maintain update. subscription. Mazda service has been very professional and reasonable to date representing about 2.8 cents per km of the 17.25 cents per km mtce costs. Miss my Mazda 6 (My wife has it) but wanted to have a tow bar on the CX5 for occasional trailer towing - couldn't see myself putting a tow bar on the Mazda 6.1 comment

Great mid size SUV.
Brought the latest model update Grand touring auto, petrol 2.5 litre, AWD, Nov 2013 build date. The Skyactive is a bit of a pain at times with engine switching off when stopping. Easy to turn off this feature. Build quality is excellent, style is pleasing to the eye, the straight up & down auto gear shift is great. The interior looks great, controls are user friendly. Steering is a great feel, not loose. The 2.5 litre petrol engine is ok, maybe should have negotiated a bit and purchased the diesel for more responsive grunt. The 7.4 litre...Read more
per 100 kms is fantasy from Mazda. My average is around 10-11 litres per 100 kms urban driving.. For a good size SUV I'm not too unhappy. It is responsive when pushed. Ultra quiet on the road and handling is superior to any car I have previously owned. You feel very safe in all conditions, especially in the wet. The leather electric seats with 2 memories is a must if there is a height difference between you & your partner. Superior comfort & support. Plenty of cargo room & interior space. Build quality, style & drive. The Blue reflex mica colour looks awesome. Fuel economy. Diesel better option for grunt.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

I still love my CX-5 GT
I purchased a demo model in may 2012 and chose the CX-5 because it had a decent boot size, and have had no problems with the car, servicing and running costs have been a delight, with Mazda dropping me off at my door until.
The Master warning light stayed on with the istop flashing in brown, so I rang Mazda to find out what it meant, they said 'book it in as soon as possible', so I did . I found out that I will have to replace the istop battery roughly every 3 years, I also asked what would happen if I did not replace the battery since my husband hates the istop, they replied that the battery would get to low and the car would not start. It is costing approx. $560 to replace all up.
It's nice having all the perks but they are costly.

We love this car
We got this car in Oct last year. We love it. We have it in Diesel. It's economical, extremely comfortable, has lots of power and great features. The Bose sound system is great and the Aux, Bluetooth and USB ports make connecting to ipods very easy. The hands free phone is also very clear.

Nice to drive, no complaints but get the bigger motor
Owned for 8 months now, max sport front wheel drive, so the 2 litre motor. On the test drive around town felt ok, but once owned and I started driving it around the hills it struggles badly. It's still a lovely car to drive, I have no complaints but buy the 4wd with the 2.5 motor. Minor personal whinge- don't like I-stop, would like to turn it off permanently rather than every time I start the car. I'm getting 7-8 litres per hundred around town, not bad. Not much better on country run, but it does work hard on hills. Handles fine, no s...Read more
