Sorry to hear that. Have not had any issues during past 21 months. Sounds like it could possibly be a problem associated with off road use as ours has not been off sealed roads really.

I have not had any trouble with anything falling off my CX5.
My car has only ever been driven on sealed roads and once for about 30km (20 miles) on a well maintained dirt road.
I don't think Mazda or many other cars are built as well as they used to be and maybe all in the name of keeping costs down to remain competitive with other car manufacturers. Pity.

Unfortunately the CX5 is not really a off road SUV, I also have had two CX5s never had any problems, but pretty sure they are more for the bitumen only rather than the paddock.

Hi, 10.4-11.0L/100 consumption for urban running is normal depending on driving style and traffic. All vehicles including 3.6L V6 commodore do extremely well on freeway running, however drops significantly if you are stuck in traffic or on backroads. In my experience and opinion, this is normal. We have a Maxx Sport 2.0L Front wheel drive which averages 9.4L/100 in similar conditions. WE also have a T32 X-trail 2.5L 4WD model (similar comparable model to yours), which averages what you are experiencing. This is a common trade off of compact SUV. Which basically has a medium small -Medium sedan engine or a relatively heavier vehicle. They are nice to drive, comfortable, however not great on fuel economy. This was the "false economy" one would get caught up in. I used to drive a 3.0L Holden Commodore as part of company car. A great car and a good work horse. Our organization moved to Rav4 across the board thinking that they would delivery better value. It was anything but. In medium SUVs fuel tank in smaller (60L) vs a commodore 72L. So you would visit the pump often. They lack the power so you tend to accelerate more to take off. And they end up consuming almost the same amount of fuel no matter what. THe older CX9 is even worse. One of the worst in fuel consumption from what I hear from users. However the new CX9 apparently has improved. SUVs in general (medium compact to large) are not great on petrol in general. That seems a fact for the moment. However CX5 Maxx Sport 2.5 AWD is one of the best medium compact SUVs in the market. You would not have enjoyed the lower spec 2.0L under powered which may have saved slightly some fuel. I don't think there is anything wrong with your vehicle and there is not much the dealer can do. Your model is one of the best in class. So ignore the fuel economy and enjoy the ride. Petrol is at its relatively cheapest at the moment and it should not be a burden on your budget. Cheers

Thanks Echsee. No complaints about the car at all. It drives very well and l wanted a more powerful vehicle. Just thought it was a little strange it was averaging more fuel use than usual and curious to know what others were consuming.

I would be checking the fine print of the extended warranty contract.... maybe get legal advice, and also take it to another mazda dealer..... Don't take no for an answer. Good Luck

Have you owned the CX5 from new ? The evaporator is not really a wear and tear item and most tend to last around 8 years +. How many K's do you have on it ? The Evaporators are not expensive parts but because they are buried deep inside the dash its the labour cost which is the main part of the bill.

If the car has not been flooded or in an accident you should make contact with Mazda Australia and demand that it is resolved. Unless damaged, an ac evaporator should not fail in 4 years. Most leaks on the evaporator are caused by weld seams failing or in rare cases corrosion from the inside if you have had a lot of leaves and debris inside the intake.

The extended warranty that Mazda offers is not the same as the manufacturers warranty. in any case it should not be failing at this age.

It may be a good idea to take the car to an AC specialist for their opinion just in case your dealer is a stealer.....

Thanks for your advice. It has done 38k so far. I was told that the new operating unit will cost $500 and two days labour $1400 + cost of coolent etc. it has never been flooded or in accident. No leaves or debris etc. I will take another opinion from an AC specialist.

Hello - 2013 model is the first series of the CX5 - I have the Series 2 with Navtronics GPS which is built in to the Mazda system...... You would need to contact Mazda about updates. I had a hard time getting used to the new system because I love the Garmin GPS's. Also be aware of the software updates offered by Mazda for the whole entertainment system - does fix a lot of problems.When my warranty runs out I plan on getting Mazda to do Major services and go somewhere else for minor services to keep my costs under control. Hope this helps. PS You won't be disappointed with a CX5.

Hi, Unless you really had some bad luck that does not sound right. We have had our CX5 since end June 2015 and no scratches on the doors at all. [ Sonic Silver ] I did note that the paintwork is thin on the new Mazda's by a couple small stone chip on the wing but that's it. Normally in parking situations the plastic cladding on the bottom of the doors and sill protects from anyone opening the door and scratching the sides as they stick out more than the door paintwork if that makes sense. I guess that a larger 4WD or commercial vehicle could do more damage but after 5 weeks ? I don't think so.
Did you buy the car new or ex demo / used ? The only logical explanation would be that the doors have had work or been resprayed if there was any damage prior to being put up for sale if used or demo. In sunlight standing back say 10 feet from the car you would see a different shade where paintwork was blended in. Also drip marks and matt overspray inside door corners are the signs....
Another possibility is if you have a dog that gets excited to see you when you get home and starts to jump and put his paws on the car. I have seen scratches made this way.

Brand new, I find it to be strange, however when I went in to dealer, I was informed wear and tear from getting in and out of the car, (with rubber shoes)! I do not step on to get in and out, even if I did I would expect it not to damage and scratch right through the paint work! Disappointed!

Does not sound right at all on a new car and totally unacceptable excuse by the dealer. I would call Mazda Australia. They were very pro active when we had a service issue with our dealer that got resolved very quickly. You could always add the protective scuff plate set on the sills. Mazda have a set for the CX5. They are self adhesive. Supercheap do a universal set that's much cheaper. Like I said I think that the paintwork on the new Mazda's is very thin otherwise a great car.

But the best of my knowledge no problems with the istop so far.

Hi, I had a similar problem I think about 6 months ago (2012 Maxx Sport auto), there was a faulty stop light sensor "Switch Stop Lamp" part no BN7N66490. Can't guarantee you're having the same issue, but worth having them check this. Since replacing I've had no issues. Good luck

All I could suggest Crystal is that you put a bag of zeolite or activated carbon, or even baking soda in the car to absorb the smell. Masking won't work by adding some other chemical. You need to remove it, so hopefully the 3 options I've given you might help.

Judging by your symptoms this is likely to be a DPF regen cycle. Every 200 to 400 k's the engine will inject extra diesel into the combustion chamber which heats up the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) to clean out the trapped soot. This usually last about 10 to 20 minutes and is a normal process for any new diesel engines with a DPF.
During this cycle the engine note will change and an unusual odour from the tailpipe may be noticable. You may also notice increased fuel consumption and the engine is a bit rough at idle.
Next time it occurs switch your trip computer to current fuel consumption and you will notice much higher consumption.

DPF's (Diesel Particulate Filter) are now built into many Diesel Automatics, It's a replacement on the catalytic converter and is meant to remove diesel particles from the exhaust for health/environmental reasons. A car with a DPF will always need to regen/burn (clean), this only happens when the engine is hot and running at over 80kph for around 20mins.
I work in a workshop on Thursday Island and the DPF's are killing cars here, the speed limit is 40kph, and cars are presenting with FULL blockages which cannot be burnt out, DPF replacements can be in the vicinity of $4000-$8000. I strongly recommend if you purchase a new auto diesel it suits your driving life :)

The fill point is on the deepish side. You'd need a spout or nozzle from the can. May as well poor in into the oil sump. That's where all my diesel ends up.

Dave leather seats are not an option on the Maxx or Maxx sport. They are only available on the GT and the Akera

Dave, try Doyles in car. They were the supplier that fitted leather seats to my Maxx Sport when I bought it new from the dealer in 2013. The dealer charged me around $2000 but if you go direct you will probably get a better price. they have workshops in Qld, NSW and Vic. Cheers, Graham

Not a caravan but a boat of similar weight - around 1 tonne. Pulls without a problem - have taken it to NSW from Victoria and SA - no problem.

I have a petrol 2.5 litre AWD and have towed a small 14ft van. It handles it very well.

It used 3 tanks to do 1680km. We are now writing down when we fill up and making notes what range it says the range and what we get with notes on liters. We only fill up when the fuel light come's on.we only got the CX5 23/12/15 (DIESEL). ONLY GETTING JUST OVER 500K PER TANK

I'm not really clued up on the diesel fuel economy. I'm guessing you're getting fuel economy around 9.0 litres per 100k. This is what I was told I would get. Each time I fill up, I'm using my phone to take a video recording of the petrol bowser, the receipt and the speedo reading. I don't trust the dealer or Mazda Australia to do the right thing. Both of them have been unhelpful and totally non responsive to any of my requests. I have no more option but legal action. A solicitor suggested that once I lodge a claim with the courts, Mazda will most likely fix my problem before it gets to court, as the cost to them could be extreme if it is found they are falsifying the fuel economy. Will be e few months away, even 6 months. I'll post a review when I'm done.

If you look at the latest review you will see what issues I have had with diesel getting into the oil sump. If you are worried about this issue, DO NOT buy this car. If it affects you mazda will not do anything about it and you will be forced to service the vehicle more often than is required

We find ours a strange angle also. Though not bad enough to buy new ones so i havent looked into it

If the are adjustable it may be as easy as taking them out and turning them around.

Lenny, if driven for short trips regularly, the Diesel Particulate Filter will clog up causing the vehicle to go into a 'burn' cycle which will use approx. 9l/100km for 50km or so until filter has been burned clean. My friend's Mazda 6 diesel does this and it annoys the hell out of him but that was Mazda's explanation. Try driving it a bit harder, the diesel won't punish you like a petrol would.

Short answer jojo, don't know as it's a different model to the one I have. I used Auto genie to get my best price. For $50 they contact up to 3 different dealers for a price that meets your specification. The dealer then gives his best on the road price, you don't have to negotiate anything with them, if they want your business they know the price has to be as low as they can get. I took the cheapest price to my local Mazda dealer who reluctantly matched it. Highly recommend this hassle free way of purchasing a new vehicle. Regards.

I also bought a difference model - the Akera which was much more. Think I paid too much. Anyway, given the window tinting, cargo mat and the extra warranty comes to about $2K, sounds like an OK deal for the CX Maxx Sport, assuming it includes on-road costs.

I am guessing the "metal at the back of the seat" you mention is the rod that the cargo curtain rolls into? To take it out when required, first let the cargo curtain roll all the way into it. Then grasp the ends of the metal rod (where the plastic caps or covers are attached) and gently pull the rod up and inwards, the rod will lift out of its mounting brackets freeing up all the cargo space.

Hi Alex. People have different opinions about the power of CX5. Someone who is used to driving a Commodore or Falcon will think the CX5 lacks power. I don't drive either but I still think it lacks a little bit. LIke yourself I only do city driving but the 2.0L is sufficient to my daily driving. However if you want a bit more power and can afford to spend a bit more, I think the 2.5L might be nicer. Test drive both is the best way to tell. So far, my 2.0L FWD is avg around 7.7l /100kms which is slightly higher than my Corolla Conquest hatch at 7.6l. :/

My petrol model has not guts at all, But if you read my review above I would not buy a Mazda CX5 at all..

My choice was the 2.5 litre. Its still very economical and you never know when that bit of extra grunt will get you out of trouble. I tow a small aluminium boat and don't find it much different in power to the 3.0 litre Mazda Tribute that it replaced.
