Cordless pump
For someone like me who is a first time mum, this product is very easy to use and clean. It's cordless and touch screen therefore i'm able to multitask at the same time when i have my medela bra making it hands-free. I produce a fair amount while expressing something like 350ml in 10minutes and that's at a suction strength L4. If you want a stronger suction then you can just up the strength easily on the product. There's also a timer on this product for convenience. This pump is really compact and I'm able to bring it with me anywhere or wherever i need to. I honestly really love this pump and would recommend it to any new mothers.

A great product for convenience!
I am a first time mum and I recently gave birth to my son. I bought the Medela Freestyle Flex and I absolutly love it. The device itself is small and compact. The touch screen and the different settings are easy to figure out without having to look in the instructions manul. s, it has a long battery life and I've been able to take it with me anywhere I go and pump without a worry. It uses a USB charge, so it is very convient and it doesn't take long to charge. I've been out and about, so I've been able to utilise the cooler bag, freezer pack and the tote that the pump came with. The cooler bag and freezer pack will allow 4 bottles which is plenty of room for a day trip and it keeps the temperture. The tote is the perfect size for me to just chuck everything in there without the bag being too bulky. Absolutly love this product!

Easy to pump it!
Easy, comfy, pumps well, light weight, quiet and easy to clean.
Negative - it is only capable to pump two breast at a time.
Stellar Product Testing Panel provided me with this pump.

The Freestyle Flex has been a god send!
I absolutely love my Freestyle Flex breast pump. It’s so compact and convenient to take anywhere & I love that the double breast pump gets more milk in a shorter amount of time! Highly recommend, it’s simply the best breast pump!

Great pump - terrible accessories
I want to start by saying I love this pump - but after using the symphony and attachments I have a massive issue with the freestyle flex attachments. You can not see when milk has stopped due to the enclosed head so you are purely reliant on time and hoping you are drained. The head also covers so much of the bottle that you cannot tell if the bottle is full. I have actually purchased the symphony attachments and use on it so I can actually see what is going on.
The pump itself is nice and gentle but absolutely zero love for the attachments

This pump is absolutely life changing!
I have been a loyal Medela user for years - I had the single Swing and now using the Freestyle Flex my life has changed so much! It is so efficient, quiet and HANDS FREE - which is so handy when you have a toddler too! I find that I can get so much more milk in much less time, the breast shields are incredible in their suction power and I can do a few days of pumping (2-3 times per day) without needing to charge it. This is hands down the best pump!

How comparable is the suction power of the freestyle flex versus the sonata? I have used the sonata on my last baby and I loved the suction power as it was literally like a hospital grade pump. However the sonata is bulky so I just purchased the freestyle flex however I’m concerned the suction will not be as good as the Sonata. Is the freestyle flex as powerful and comparable to hospital grade pump like Sonata?

Hi Trang,
Thank you for your email. Medela Australia does not actually stock the Sonata but we do have the new Freestyle Flex. The Freestyle Flex and the Sonata both use the same 2 Phase technology (Stimulation & Expression), they also have the newly designed breast shields which have the added benefit of improved comfort and also increases the volume of milk when double pumping by up to 11%.
The Sonata does have an extra pumping pattern as it was inspired by the Symphony professional-grade breast pump which you may have seen in many hospitals. This may impact output depending on the pattern used.
The vacuum levels are approximately the same (the difference is negligible). The Freestyle Flex is much more portable and is one of the lightest and quietest pumps on the market.
Please remember if you purchase your Sonata from outside of Australia your warranty is with the country of purchase.

Thank you very much for your question. There are quite a few differences with the new Medela Freestyle Flex. The suction of the pump is the same as very few mothers would use the pump at its maximum suction level.
The most noticeable is the new design of the pump and breast shields. The pump is very sleek, quiet and lightweight. It charges via USB, so you can charge anywhere from your desk to your car. You can also connect your Freestyle Flex with the free MyMedela app.
We also include two different sizes of our new softer "oval" shape breast shields. In designing these new shields it was found that 100% of mothers found them to be more comfortable and easier to fit the natural shape of the breast. There is also the added benefit of 11% more output of milk while using these shields because of the unique design. It is a pump that is very much designed for today's mothers' their busy lifestyles.
