Temperamental and unreliable
I am writing this at 4am after this pump, yet again, has decided not to work. This is one of the worst products I have ever purchased and has caused me and my husband endless frustration. The price is in no way justified. The component parts are so temperamental, that either one or both sides of the pump decided not to work at any given time and for no apparent reason (we are drying the parts constantly to ensure no water is in the system, and have even resorted to using a hairdryer to ensure no water remains in the pump system but to no avail)...Read more
. It is fortunate that that I have not been able to exclusively breastfeed because this pump is fundamentally unreliable. I am extremely disappointed in this product and will likely be forced to purchase another pump. Rest assured it will not be Medela.

Love this with the pumping bra quick and efficient
Easy to use portable if you pair it with the pumping bra can still do work etc
I use it with the tommee tippee express and go bags with adapter and it has just taken this pump to another level.
I have used many pumps over 5 kids and this current set up the freestyle plus tommee tippee express and go kit I wish it was around 9 years ago!

Great product all round
Exactly what you need in a breast pump. Efficient, comfortable, easy to use and does the job. It wasnt too loud either which is great when you have a sleeping baby next to you. I also liked that it was portable!
The only negative would have to be the fact that milk would spill out when i would lean forward too much (eg. to pick up baby), but that was a fault of my own (would be great is the design did allow for this though).

Efficient pump, like the colour
I got the double Madela Freestyle at a Sydney baby expo. It was the best looking one I can find while I was shopping around. The pump is on the expensive side but it does a great job. I also brought the pumping bra and it’s great that I get to walk around while pumping. Although it’s hard to avoid milk getting onto the bra when I take the pump away. So it’s recommended to invest two of those bra but they are not cheap.

Worst product ever!!!
I'm very disappointed with the medela products. Any by PRODUCTS, what I mean is that I've use two different products of medela and found both useless. 1st I bought medela swing which lost its suction in a month so I had to contact the customer service where they took forever to respond and I was getting mad because my newborn is having only breast milk no formula and he doesnt latch on so im a exclusive pumper and it's very difficult to expressed by hand once you get used to of pumping.

Do not waste your money for medela freestyle
If i can i would give 0 star for medela freestyle, expensive and useless it is not powerful even you use for single pump and worse when you use for double pump. Don’t waste your money!! I end up buy new pump which it cheaper and much better recommend for spectra s1 and if you want smaller size Breast pump go for unimom minuet. I am so regret that i bought medela freestyle from the first place.

Horrible, absolute joke of a pump
I purchased this pump online brand new from nursing angel. Within a week it began to play up and have similar problems as someone listed below. Constantly needing to pull apart and put parts back together and they continue to not work properly. I'm beyond tired sitting up late at night pumping and pumping on my breaks at work are a nightmare as i end up having to hold this "handsfree pump". I end up having to use it as a single pump while holding it in a specific way and it'll sometimes work, usually not. Beyond sick of dealing with this. Repla...Read more

Great pump
My daughter was born at 32 Weeks so I was pumping every 3 hours from home and whilst at the hospital. I found that I loved the ease of double electric pumping but I would recommend buying a pumping br as well to maximize your ability to complete other chores whilst pumping.
The suction was good and although I had an oversupply it still pulled out so much milk. Only pump I’ve ever owned so can’t comment against others.

Not worth the money
This week I purchased the medela freestyle as I was in need of a double pump. It works great......as a single pump! As a double it is absolutely shocking. I have gone through all the trouble shooting, pulled apart and put back together, tried running on battery or mains but there is barely any suction on one side. It doesn't even suck strong enough to get a single drop out of one side, yet is perfectly fine on the other? I wish I had read the reviews and purchased another brand as it seems I'm not the only one with this problem and not one person has had it resolved so that they can effectively use it as a double, just a ridiculously overpriced single

Good in theory, not in practice- overall disappointed
Purchased the Medela freestyle as I needed a double pump to exclusively bottle feed using breastmilk as my newborn has an overbite and can’t latch properly (confirmed by the paediatrician, paediatric dental surgeon and lactation consultant at the hospital).
So from 4 days old it was pump, pump, pump 8x per day.
So I needed something reliable and went straight to the top of the range at baby bunting, directly from the hospital.
Since the beginning it frequently needs to be stopped, connections and seals reckecked (taken apart and put back...Read more
together) multiple times during each pumping session, and then restarted, as the suction is suddenly lost, or doesn’t quite get there after the initial 2 minute ‘massaging’ stage. I can see it’s not correctly aligned as I can see the rubber yellow seal either moves unevenly, doesn’t move at all, or moves very minimally (proving the loss of suction is due to the poor quality connectors). This means double pumping for 20 minutes takes 50-60 minutes. So I’ve been using single pump setting, not both, in an attempt to reduce the number of times I have to do this and it means in doing 20 minutes on each breast separately rather than together (as the product is intended), together with stopping, disassembling and reassembling multiple times, I still spend around 50-60 minutes pumping. This means less time spent cuddling and caring for my baby which is very distressing.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Perfect!
I love this breast pump!! I previously bought the spectra S2 which didn't work for me at all as it wouldn't drain my breasts, so I purchased the Medela freestyle from baby bunting and it has been able to empty my breasts so much better and quicker.
I love that it has a rechargeable battery, I love that if I need spare parts then I can just pop down to my local chemist and I love how easy it is to use. The only downside is the price as it is quite expensive so I would suggest trying to wait for a sale before purchasing.

A worthwhile investment
I did a fair bit of research prior to purchasing this breast pump and although it is expensive, it is worth every cent and many friends with the same one agree. The quality is high and the pumping power is great, especially being a double. I recommend getting the bra that goes with it so you can be hands free. The one I purchased came with bottles, a carry bag and some milk storage bags so everything I needed was there from day one.

Horrible double pump - strongly do not recommend
I strongly do not recommend this as a double pump. I have twin girls and purchased this for the sole purpose of double pumping. It can pump one fine, but double has no suction. I replaced mine under warranty thinking it was faulty, as I have heard nothing but good reviews about this pump. It was a very lengthy, and draining process to get them to replace this pump. In the end it was replaced after being tested multiple times with “nothing wrong with it”. Testing is completed on a single pumping mode, so the effectiveness of double pumping is no...Read more
t shown. After mentioning consumer laws and an ombudsman my pump was replaced. The replacement pump is the same, a product which can not do what it states which is “double pumping”. I’d hire a hospital grade
Being a first time mum when I purchased this, I didn’t really know what I was doing. My son had taken to bottles when I had an operation but I was determined to breast feed. I had used a medela hospital grad pump and was amazed by how easy they were so I purchased the home version thinking it would do the same job. The medela hand pump by the way is great and actually provided more such than this electric pump so I used it frequently as well, the only reason I used the electric over the hand in when I did was just for the ease of having both boobs done ... but when I really wanted to stimulate supply I had to hand express at the end and I used the hand pump more to boost.1 comment

Awesome pump
I find the Medela freestyle very easy to use. Double pumping ensures I get more milk compared to single. It’s easy to disassemble and clean and the programmable function is very helpful. I use this daily up to 2/3 times and the battery lasts a considerable time before needing to be recharged.

Pretty good most of the time
I found it quite comfortable to use the freestyle. The double pumping ability saves so much time! The reason we chose this pump over the swing was the ability to recharge the battery and the memory function. I typically use the prodigy for about 15 minutes at a time and can use it for at least 10 sessions before I need to recharge.

Love it, but something stop working in 2 weeks
I purchased these item from baby bunting Hoppers Crossing a few month ago to be used once i delivered my baby. Ive delivered my baby at the end of last month and used the medela from the hospital. When i returned home and use my freestyle, it works okay and I rely on these to feed my newborn. I use the 2 pumps and most of the time just 1 pump. I realize the suction is less when I use just 1 pump. It says that we have to insert the unused short tubing into the tubing holder. And when you turn the device on, theres seems to have some air escaping...Read more

Good pump, shameful customer service
I have newborn twins and my pump wouldnt connect to the charger at midnight on a Saturday night. I tried googling, calling and emailing customer service but had no luck. On Sunday morning I asked a family member to buy a new pump at 7am when the pharmacy opened so I would be able to continue to feed. After buying a new pump and charger, I discovered it was in fact the old charger that wasn’t working and the old pump was fine. I received a response to Saturday’s email on Monday afternoon. They said they could send me a new pump or charger if I h...Read more
ad a receipt for my original pump. I responded by confirming that it was the charger, but that I did not have the receipt. I explained that I had also purchased a new pump and asked if there was anything that could be done. I was informed that they would not help, and that I should have driven to a shop to test my pump on a charger instead of buying a new pump. I was horrified. Having explained already my TWINS were being bottle fed only, obviously this was urgent and I found the unsolicited advice to drive around testing my pump completly impractical and grossly insulting. It is not surprising that with newborn twins, and a c section, I would be unable to go driving around testing out my pump with my screaming hungry babies in the car. Not to mention the damage this would have done to my supply. I sensibly took steps to mitigate my losses when I purchased the new pump, and when I was asked if they would take back the new pump my request was flatly denied on the basis that it was no longer be and new. I am astounded that a company could be so disconnected from the industry it is in and that it’s emloyees could be so unprofessional in demeanour. I will never purchase anything from Medela again, and will happily spread the word to other mums. Shameful.4 comments

Questions & Answers
Chrisasked
Can this be used as one pump at a time or does both have to be used together?
3 answers
Yes, I think so. Use plastic wrap between shield and breastshield connector. Then you can transfer Freestyle to a single pump
Yes, it can be used either one pump or two pumps.
Medela A.Medela
Hi Chris, yes the Freestyle can easily be converted from a double to a single pump and back again simply by unplugging the tubing from one of the pump connectors and plugging it into the square shaped adaptor in the centre of the tubing. This needs to be done to regulate the vacuum otherwise it will be lost out of the side not being used. Thank you Medela Australia.
