What grade of petrol should I use on a 2011 Mercedes Benz 180 B series non Turbo?

The Mercedes dealerships recommend the high grade fuel because of some compression issue. But since I distrust anything to do with Victorian dealerships, I have always used the mid level fuel, and so far none of the rip off repair shops have attributed repair breakdowns to particular petrol use.

service intervals and cost

Hello Michael,
Our 180B has 50,000kms on the clock and so far it has cost us $1700 to fix an oil leak. A foreign car repair place in Richmond, Victoria, claimed it needed 8 hours labour, which I find hard to believe but because they told us it was dangerous to drive we paid it. Two weeks later the thermostat broke down and that cost $1300 and we were told that it breaks down at about 40,000kms. A normal grease and oil is $600 if you go to the Mercedes shops. Be aware that you do not need to go to a Mercedes workshop even if your car is still under warranty. You can choose to have your car repaired anywhere you like and the warranty will still be valid.
Normally you would have a service every twelve months or at 30,000kms, but I would not recommend having the work done by any Mercedes repair shops as they just rip you off. The foreign car repair shop in Richmond was not much better, so if you intend to buy a Mercedes, you should see if you can line up a mechanic who knows the make and is also honest. We now have an honest repair shop on the Gold Coast where we have relocated, and I can only recommend that you be very careful if you intend to deal with any of the luxury car workshops, particularly the Fairfield and Richmond workshops in Victoria.

Can anyone tell me how the interior storage space with rear seats folded down, compares with that of the Honda Jazz?

This can be easily Googled and answers are readily available out there. However I can answer this rather quickly as I was looking at a Honda Jazz for a daily run about 2 years ago. Luggage space for the Jazz with the magic seat configuration etc is only 884 litres at its max, whereas the B-class is 1545 litres. Opening aperture of the boot of the B class is also larger as is the internal height which is important for big items.

I did Google but it seems my ability is limited.

Thank you dogbert for your answer.

b180 speed sensor in CVT needs replacing after only 65klms. I see that in the UK they also had problems at 37Kmiles and many of those have been repaired by Mercedes . Is or has there been a repair program or recall on this problem in Aust?

Has anyone had a tailgate issue, not locking?

Best you go to your car dealership to sort this out but this happened to our previous B class after someone rear ended the car and it had to be repaired. Guess the tailgate was removed but it couldn't be put back as good as when it came from the factory. I understand that other common causes would be parking on an incline, e.g. half the car on the footpath which causes body flex.

Hi I have a B180 2015, bought it as a demo. now it is 25,000ks and I hear the rattling coming from front right wheel every time I drive. my mechanic said it is sway bearing rubber has worn off. Is there anyone having the same problem?

Never had the issue myself to be honest. Assuming that you did nothing that would cause the wear problem, then it's best to get it fixed if it's still under warranty considering you bought a MY2015 car. However if you're out of warranty and assuming that you've always had your car serviced at MB, then I suggest you negotiate hard with the dealer.

Not me - and hopefully never will ! Sounds like the mechanic is correct. Poor demonstration of a 'so called ' marque such as Merc !! Certainly get on to the dealer and have it sorted AT NO CHARGE !! They should also throw in a courtesy car - TO SAY THE LEAST !

I have a 2008 Mercedes Benz B180 CDI. It is fine EXCEPT for the sunroof. I am totally frustrated. The sunroof malfunctioned although I did not use it very often. It is the fold back "Venetian Blind" style. Mercedes Benz service dept Adelaide told me they were a terrible installation and design. When it malfunctioned they just obfuscated and stood around wringing their hands. The best they could offer was too replace the unit at the "special" price of $5000AUD. I obviously rejected this kind offer and took it to another service place who discovered a small broken piece of plastic was causing the trouble. This small part is apparently unobtainable - which I find remarkable. The roof whistles when driving at about 100 k/hr and is intolerable. Has anyone suffered the same problem and could anyone tell me the actual manufacturer of this disastrous roof? I am also told it was also fitted to a Renault model. I am unsure of that.

Have you tried to get the part on ebay or from a wrecker perhaps?

I'm now looking on ebay and other sources for a compatible stickon wind deflector. Sadly that too is hard to find apparently. I'll keep trying.

I bought a B180. It came standard with the sunroof. On the open road with the roof closed at 100km/h there seems to be a lot of wind noise over the car. More than normal. My daughter has a Holden Barina and it seems to be quieter at speed than the Merc which I find very frustrating. Has anyone else have similar issues?

We have a B 200 with a sunroof we don't have any noise at all the only thing I can suggest is that the sun roof is fully closed

No issues with my sunroof and I have had from Jan 2013 - so almost 3 years. I would ask the dealership to check the seals for you if it was a factory sunroof.
