Can a new battery be switched in fairly easily? If going on a long ride I would likely have to change battery at least once

The hardest part is getting the tank cover off, it requires a couple of allen keys. After that its a straight forward click and release set up.

NZ Maverick
NZ Maverick

Hi Jardog, as Richard pointed out fairly straight forward once tank cover removed. L/H tank cover is removal via the chrome hex/allen screws. R/H cover has internal screws, so don't force it off as a local E-bike shop did to mine and broke the threaded pedestal. Haven't had to remove my battery yet, however due to the frame around it it may not slide out backward. If so you may need to unscrew the battery base plate from the bike. Once you've got the tank cover off you'll get a better idea of what's required, when putting the cover back on take care not to pinch any of the wiring.

I have a 500w greaser and really like it. I have about 2500 km on the bike, but the headlamp has a slight issue. When I first turn it on, the light is regular brightness, but after about 2 minutes, the light suddenly dims down quite a bit. Any ideas?

Mine does the same.
It has since new and I think it may have something to do with the LED globe self regulating its output to control heat... although this is just a guess...

A couple of my powerful LED flashlights do a similar thing if I use them on their brightest setting. They tend to get quite hot very quickly.

i bought a replacement light bulb from ebay ($3.99! not $70), but it does a similar thing, and actually turns right off. I noticed today, that the original one now dims down after a few seconds. This kinda feels like something in the circuit is overloading. I'll be taking it apart this weekend and checking votages/connections, etc.. and will report then.
cheers

Harry
Harry

So when I turn on the headlight for the first time, voltage at the bulb reads "1". Weird. Then, within a couple of seconds, the light dims and the voltage reads ~8.8 volts. Since it's a 12 volt bulb, that makes sense that it's dim at only 8.8 volts.
The wires go to the display box and possibly into the tank. Will be taking the tank apart to see if anything jumps out at me.

would like to know if I can get the 500 watt motor to do only 20 MPH for riding on our local bike trail.
I won't want a bike that will ONLY do 20 - I must be able to do 30+ or I am not interested, HOWEVER, I also would like to be able to ride with my lady on the trails . Also, what is your price on the 500 watt Greaser e bike with the green frame ?
Also, I would like to know the price of an extra battery ( highest one that will not damage the motor or controller) .
Thanks for any help here

Hi Red, there could be a loose connection in the light assembly itself, i would suggest removing the globe and checking the connection at the bulb.

Have you joined our Michael Blast Crew yet? https://www.facebook.com/groups/michaelblastcrew

Horst Klever

Horst Kleverasked

Hello, I am Horst from Germany . Whats the meaning of ERROR 5 ? from my Greaser ???

2 answers
Michael Blast
Conrad L.Michael Blast

Hi Error 5 can be related to a bad electrical connection within the wiring harness, i suggest cleaning all electrical plugs with an electrical cleaner and applying some Dielectric grease on the plugs prior to reconnecting the plugs.

Ideally you should take it back to the place where you purchased it, if it is still under warranty the dealer should take care of it.

This product review site is for Australia only, any warranty related issues need to be handled by the country and dealer where your bike was purchased.

The Michael Blast dealer in Germany is independent to Michael Blast Australia therefore we do not handle any warranty issues that originate outside of Australia.

Hello, what is ERROR 10 (Greaser)?

1 answer

Hi this error can be related to a poor connection within the wiring harness due to ingress of Dirt or water.

Please clean all connectors with electrical cleaner prior to applying some dielectric grease on the connectors before you plug them all back together.

Hi, what are the trade offs when changing the level 5 speed to 32-36 kph?
Will the battery/ motor struggle more in one bar battery and a grade 5 hill in Sydney?
Currently the bike will do 8kph in such a terrain and low battery.
Great bike, one year down and loving every minute with it. Thanks and looking forward to your reply

Hi Jonathon, Increasing the assistance level and top speed will deplete the battery at a faster rate as it requires more energy to maintain that higher speed.

Hi Oscar, It sounds to me like there is a dirty electrical connection that is causing this error. But the dealer whom you purchased the bike from can give you a greater insight into the issue

Hi,
I have a 48V, 0.5kW Greaser and absolutely love it.
From new it always made a vibration sound when under load that seemed to be amplified by the tank panels. It was quite cool as it gave warning to other road users that I was approaching. I have now done just over 1000 kms and the vibration has recently increased significantly to a level where the noise is no longer cool. The the seat frame vibrates and if I clamp my legs against the tank panels it doesn't reduce at all. The vibration is generating from the rear wheel, it I lift it off the ground and spin the wheel by hand I can hear the vibration transmitting throughout the frame.
I don't think this normal for a Bafang hub drive bike, my wife has a different brand of bike with 48V, 0.5kW Bafang hub drive and it doesn't do it.
Would appreciate any thoughts.

Hi, you will need to contact the place where you purchased your bike, if your bike has never been serviced by the place of purchase we suggest that the spokes and hardware are checked for tightness, loose spokes can cause vibration issues.

Christophe D.asked

Hi,
I am in Montpellier in France. I would like to connect a rear light that is controlled at the same time as the front light. how do I proceed ?

cordially

1 answer
Michael Blast
Conrad L.Michael Blast

Hi Christophe,

Right now mate we have not developed a rear light yet. However I can make a suggestion that would work.

You would need to source an LED light that can handle 36-42+ Volts, the wires would run to the headlight and you could splice the positive and negative wires into the positive and negative wires that go to the headlight. So when you turn the headlight on the rear light turns on at the same time.

I hope this helps answer your question.

Ronny S

Ronny Sasked

Hi.
Ronny from Norway here. Just purchased my Greaser, and already in deep love with it.

1. Is it possible to put in a 48V battery in my Greaser? Is it space enough for it?
I'm thinking of a stronger motor, as the standard 250 w one I have now don't pull me up the hills to my house.
I'm a BIG old man.

2. Can I use the same controller with 48V battery and stronger motor?

3. We have cold winters where I live. Should I take the battery inside the house for the winter?

4. Is there a number on each bike? If so, where can I find it? I need it for the insurance. (If there is a number)

Regards

Conrad L.Michael Blast

Hi Ronny,

- You will need to update the Controller, Battery and motor if you want more power, you cannot just upgrade the battery
- I would advise you to keep your bike out of the weather where possible
- The Serial number is located on the Head tube and is stamped into the frame.

Cheers
