Check the back of your manual, it has a list of error codes. If the code is the same as in our manual, you need to call a technician, but try turning it off at the power meter then back on. If the error comes on again, you have a problem.

Check that the LED light next to the on/off button is on. If this light
is not lit, then the system is not operating.

It does however it does not keep the time and you have to re-do your time settings.

We have had our midea 170l for two years now, running on hybrid. Over the last few months we have found the hot water isn't hot enough. Only need hot tap on to shower. I have changed to temp to 65 and then 70 but no change. Any ideas?

HI,id try economy mode set temp to 65(or what ever) and Don't set the timer just have the unit turned on.Hope this workes

NeilKC
NeilKC

I would check that your tempering valve.
This valve automatically adds cold water when the hot water exceeds a set temp.
From the manual
"As heat pump water heaters can generate water temperatures in excess of 50°C, regulations require that a tempering valve be fitted to
the heater to prevent water temperatures going to the home exceeding a pre-set safe maximum. A tempering valve must be connected
to the hot water outlet line from the water heater."
If this valve goes faulty you will see the issue you have described.

Thank you for your answer. In this case what did you have to do, aside from letting it drip? Is your hot water is very hot? mind is. Any suggestions?

Peter

Hi, I think you’ll find some of the water is expansion from the water heating up and realising the pressure from the tank and some is condensation from the compressor all of which is normal for this type of system. Sorry for the late reply and rest easy it’s all good

Being a 'newbie', I really can't advise one way or the other John. The best bet would be to access the Chromogen website. There is really helpful information there regarding the pump. I am sure you will be able to find what you are looking for there.

Hi,
I have a 170L Midea unit. I have set it at 50C and to come on at 10.30am until 4.30pm in economy mode. Does the disinfectant mode still function and if so, at what time of the day? Thanks.

Dave hi ......... am not really the right person to be asking ..... have only had the unit for 5 days so am still learning about it. Perhaps someone else can assist you?

Hi Dave, I have no idea what the disinfected mode is as the installer didn't explain much to me at all but I do know that setting it at 50 is too low, it must be set at 60 which will disinfect itself but also it should only allow hot water out at 50 even though it is set at 60.

Only had solar panels put on the roof last Wednesday so still very new to it. Tried to look up on the internet but have not been successful.
I don't know if you require battery storage to do; we are on tank water so it could be different for you. I am not very helpful, perhaps someone else can offer a solution??

what setting is the most efficient for one person? Should I set the clock to only heat between certain hours? what is the difference between Economy and Hybrid? I have a RSJ-15/190rdn3-e

I'd suggest having it run during the warmest part of the day, so perhaps set it to run from 9.00 AM through to 6.00PM. Economy mode means the system will only run on the heat pump. Hybrid mode allows the system to change between the heat pump and the back up electric element. With only one person using the system, you're better off just leaving the system on "economy" mode.

Mike
Mike

I don't put any time restriction on mine, I do run it on economy though as that is the cheapest setting. I was running mine on 50 degrees but because we were always running out of hot water I have increased it to 55 which has been a little better. I also was told we were buying a 170 lt heater but on it it says 190lt. No matter what it is we cant get 2 showers out of ours where our old unit did it easy.

lizzy
lizzy

Judy G; agree with Jamie ...... I usually set it to run between 10am and 6.00pm and if you have solar panels, you get hot water for free! Economy is the most efficient mode in which the system runs. Other than that, study up on the manual and make up your own mind.

My 170 ltr system seems to be continually running, it doesn't matter what time of day or night, I go out the back and it's running. It must turn off at time's I know. An example, I walked in from work today at 3.33 pm, I walked out the back for a smoke and yep it's running, it is now 4.10 pm and still going. The temp is reading 57 and the digital clock reads 2.02. I don't understand. Any ideas?

You'll find in colder weather the system will take longer to heat, so it'll run longer. However, unlike a normal water heater that's drawing 3600 watts of power per hour, your heat pump is only drawing 700 watts, so it won't be costing much to run. In the warmer months it'll run a lot less. As a general rule of thumb, the system will use around 65% less electricity than a standard water heater.

TF
TF

Mine is the same. Winter it runs more but It's waaaay cheaper than a normal HWS.

NeilKC
NeilKC

The clock is 24 hours. 00:00 is Midnight and 23:59 is 1 minute before midnight;
if you walked out at 3:33pm the clock should read 15:33 or 14:33 (depending on daylight saving).
If you did not set the timer then the unit will run when it needs too.
Take the time to read the manual

How so I get into "set temp" mode?

It depends on how your installer set it up. Best to call customer service or your installer.

NeilKC
NeilKC

You could try reading the manual.
To check the set temperature
1. unlock the unit by pressing the unlock button for three seconds
2. simply press the up or down button to check (or set) the set temperature.
After 30 seconds of inactivity the panel will lock itself

For manuals go to:

and select your manual (170L or 280L).

I think you can until the hot water in the tank runs out. It will not commence reheating until you reset the settings after your power is back on.

Hi Nathan. Have you found out the answer to your question? If not, we also had this error and it relates to one of the sensors malfunctioning. We had to have it replaced as did our friends who also purchased this product not long after us. Cost of parts and labour $180. The units were just over a year old. See question and answer further down.

Hi guys, I am planning to replace my gas hot water tank with Chromagen Midea 280L. I have a 3-car garage, where my gas hot water tank located. The garage is north facing with a large west-facing window. It traps a lot of heat in summer as well as winter. Should I place the Chromagen 280L in my garage or outside in west-facing open air? Thanks for any advice.

Hi guys, we are about to move to a new (well new to us) property which has two electric storage units, one under five years old the other a little older I think, in SA, no gas connected. We would like to look at replacing both units with a 170ltr Midea heat pump, curious if the rebated price is available for multiple units at the same premises if all the required boxes are ticked?

You're able to claim up to 2 systems on your property. If you purchase directly from Chromagen, you'll pay as little as $99.00 installed, for each unit.

If you push the Mode button, you can select either "hybrid" or "E Heater" mode. If you want a quick boost, simply select E Heater. There is an easy start guide on the Chromagen website.

Thanks Snakeman for your reply, thinking you live in Victoria as the Govt there are offering great Rebates as well as STC's you lucky guys! I probably got ripped off but I was desperate at the time as I had no hot water. I went with the $1800 supply & install including Qld Govt incentive of STC's $900. For people living in QLD Bunnings sell the 170L for $1799

Hi I have 280l heat pump Midea. The heater seems to be turned on for more than three hours at night, even if we don’t use the hot water. Is it normal. I am afraid about the electricity bill next month as we moved in to the new house only 3 months. We have solar installed. Is there any way I could run the machine during the day, so that we can utilise the solar electricity.

1 answer
Jamie
Jamie

The system should be set to run through the day. The beauty of these systems, is they can utilize solar electricity as it's being generated. If your system has been connected to an "off peak" type tariff, get an electrician to wire it directly to your switchboard. The unit has a timer that can set to run when you like. I'd suggest from 9.00AM to 4.00PM to maximize solar power contribution.
