Is this available for installation in the southern highlands? We sometimes have problems getting tradies to come here. Also is this system still efficient in cold winter temperatures where the temp drops below zero?

Hi Kaz,

I hope you're well, we (Chromagen) can arrange both a plumber and electrician for you so you don't have to worry about it.

This unit does still operate very efficiently even during the colder months of the year. You will find it only draws 700watts of power where as the standard electric hot water units draw 3,600 watts.

You are welcome to call me on 0417 222 825 if you have any questions.

We installed 170 litre heat pump 3 months ago, have friends staying for weekend and hot water temp has dropped right off after several showers in a row. Do we wait for it to heat up and any ideas on avoiding this happening again?
Thank you

Not surprising in the winter. 170 litres is a fairly small hot water system. Giving time between the showers will help the system recover the temperature.

you can also use your boost cycle but be aware this is a very expensive way for recovering hot water,as previously stated leave a little time between showers for the unit to recoup, longer time required in winter and night time

Yes would be fine

Yes it will do. You only need to make ha hole in your wall with a diameter of 16 cm. In the sommer you will connect this with the intake of air and let the outlet blow in the garage and in the winter you switch it so the cold air goes out.

Hi
I have a couple of questions...
1. Is this a storage HWS, or does it need to be attached to solar?
2. How loud is the compressor?
3. Are there STCs available with this unit if it's not on solar?
4. Does it have to be on a timer, or is there an over ride switch to start it up if necessary?
5. Is there an adjustable thermostat?
6. We're on tank water, our water pump has awesome internal pressure, would this affect operation of the unit?
7. What would be an approximate cost and install of the unit?
8. If we install solar panels at a later date, is it onerous to add this unit to them?

It looks like our Dux is on the way out (came with the house) and we're looking to replace it with a more Eco-friendly, energy and cost efficient HWS such as this or the Standen.

Thanks all for the help.

I have installed heaps over the last five or so years and no complaints as yet, i have prob put in about 150. I DONT WORK FOR CHROMAGEN.
they are a storage system and come in two sizes . they do not need to connect to a solar system . they are very energy efficient . The timer is built in on the front very easy to use. it is the same as a conventioal water heater to install with the same footprint. it is a heatpump the same as a dux but designed totally differently . it would be fine on tank water as the heating part is wrapped around the tank not i it. they are more efficient than dux . they get stc credits. make sure you get the right size unit (170ltr or 280ltr). they are very very quiet .

How long does it take to heat up if you use all 170 litres and does it heat up at any time day or night?

1 answer

David S.Chromagen

Hi Adam,
The 170 Litre unit if heated from cold will take approx 5 hours to heat the full tank. Having said this the system is designed to operate at all hours of the day and night as required, so as hot water is drawn off and more cold water enters the system (which will start to incrementally drop the water temperature within the tank, as the hot and cold water mixes), the unit will start up to bring this water back up to the set temperature. This recovery time will vary depending on how much water is consumed at any one time. In regards to the consumption let me put to you a scenario that might assist in how one might consume the all the hot water of a 170 Litre unit. Assuming the tank temperature is set at 60 degrees, and someone has a shower at 38 degrees, you will in fact have on hand approx 268 litres of hot water (at the 38 degree temp). Now lets say the shower head operates at 9 litres per minute (which is fairly high for today's standards), one would need to shower for approx 30 mins to consume all the hot water.
I hope this answers your question.

Chromagen

The unit can switch on when you are using it but it doesn't run like a gas instant heater. The unit will run on the heat pump up to a temperature then switch to electrical operation. They are very good and cheaper to run.

Is there any rebate for installing this unit in WA? (replacing a 10 yo unit)

David S.Chromagen

Hi Brian,
Yes there are Government incentives for installing these Midea heat pumps in WA. These units qualify for the Federal Government incentive scheme which come in the form of Small Scale Technology Certificates (STCs for Short) which can reduce the cost of the unit by approx $1,000.

Unit needed to fitted under stair well under house is there enough ventilation?

1 answer
Chromagen
David S.Chromagen

Hi Hass,
Thank you for your question. The 170L unit requires a minimum 15 cubic metres of space to effectively operate (e.g. an area that is 3 metres wide x 2 metres long and a height of 2.5 metres). The larger 280L unit is ideal for internal applications, as this has provisions for connecting additional ducts that can be run to an external wall / roof for suitable air intake and air exhaust. When ducted the space required only needs to be suitable for installing and servicing the unit.

If you speak with our team on 1300 367 565, and explain your situation, they will be able to assist you further in determining the ideal system to suit your needs and application.

What is the cost plus installation for the 170L?

No cost if you are replaceing an existing heater less than 5 years old.

Chromagen
David S.Chromagen

Hi Shara,
As Bryan has indicated, the current promotion is for the supply and installation of a 170L Heat Pump unit for no cost due to the available Government incentives.
Please note to qualify for the no cost promotion there are some specific conditions that apply, including the following:
- Must be replacing an external electric storage unit to a residential property in Victorian or South Australia. (Internal units can be changed over, but there is an additional surcharge).
- Owner of the property must assign all Government incentive certificates to Chromagen Australia Pty Ltd (this is what offsets the cost)

Please also note, if the system being replaced is older than five years there is an additional cost of $149 for new valves to ensure this appliance is installed in accordance with Australian Standards
Should you wish to discuss this further please contact our team on 1300 367 565.

Kind Regards,
Chromagen.

Hi, I have just bought a house with a 190 L Midea Water Heater, only the Temperature is sitting on 60C, anyone know how to drop the Temperature Please?

1 answer
Chromagen
David S.Chromagen

Hi Lithgowflash,
Congratulations on the new home. In regards to the temperature setting, it is highly recommended to keep the setting at 60C, to ensure that the body of water kills off all bacteria and prevents the growth of legionella. With that said your system should have been installed with a tempering valve that will restrict the water coming into your home to a maximum of 50C as required by law.

Should you have any further concerns, please contact our service team on 1300 367 565.

Kind Regards,
Chromagen.
