Great Car. Comfortable and great to drive.
Purchased my Outlander 6 years ago and since then not a single problem with it. Comfortable, quiet and great to drive. 2.4 ltr engine that has plenty of power for me, my wife and son. Loads of room in the back, especially with rear seats folded flat. Good on fuel and an all round nice drive. Would recommend.

Perfect starter family car
I got the 2004 model, it’s really smooth to drive. I think on every thing I dislike is maybe the boot space, I reckon it needs a touch more space. I can fit my strider compact pram in there though and groceries so that’s alright. It costs roughly $80 to fill a tank, I feel like it goes through a lot of petrol quick though

Great Family Car
Very reliable, smooth to drive, plenty of room - only 4 stars as of its oxygen sensors issues...design of catalytic converter and manifold...2in 1. this affect the performance of the car and sometimes light up the engine light as well.
Great for off road and on sand driving. First car 4wd experience...really enjoyed it.

ZE XLS Outlander - Great Car, have owned since 2006 now with 153,000 kms
Black 2004 Mitsubishi XLS Outlander. with sunroof, Cruise control, automatic. Only problems I have had are:
Airconditioning seems a bit week - note Australian summer and a black car with sunroof
Sunroof got jammed last year - screw fell out (bit of work taking the roof lining apart but fixed within 1 hour)
Cruise control light stays on - works just that light is on when its not
Do my own servicing. No major problems to report, only usual servicing items and consumables, timing belt, filters, etc. Reliable, 10/11 ltrs to 100KM. Radiator ...Read more
developed a leak on top at plastic joints at about 145,000 klms which was cheap and quite easy repair and think justified after 10 years with that sort of mileage. Battery was replaced some years back (again lasted its life). Tows my small boat and trailer fine, if trailer is loaded with a large load (rocks or soil) I can feel her struggle but it is only a 4 cylinder engine and would expect that. Great for light off roading that I have done, driving on beach in soft sand, etc. Great for sleeping in the back. Seats fold down 60/40 or flat for camping over night in the car. Turning circle is quite large. Would definitely buy a Mitsubishi again. Comfortable and practical, reliable car. now has 2 x baby seats in the back, the boot is large enough for pram and groceries, stroller fits on the rear seat floor if needed. Boot has 12 volt power point which handy for camping.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great family car!
This is my first Outlander, which I've now owned for around 18 months. I'm not a real car person - as long as it gets me from A to B but I LOVE this car! It didn't cost a fortune, is reliable, economical and looks great. Ours is an electric blue - the only one in our area - so I love that it really stands out and is easy to spot!
I find it drives really well, great performance and handling, although can be a little noisy. The interior is great and clean looking, with plenty of leg room for the whole family. I haven't had any reliability or servicing problems with my Outlander and find it economical on fuel.
I would definitely recommend a Mitsubishi Outlander, especially as a reliable family car.

One of the best cars I have ever driven and owned
One of the best cars I have ever driven. Could not be happier with my 2006 model. It's quiet and has enough power to get you out of trouble. Purchased near new (20000 km) now has nearly 200000 km and still drives like new. My only wish is that it had a Bluetooth Audio System.
Smooth, Comfortable, Practical, Pleasure to Drive, Solid feel.
Poor reversing vision, blind spot on front window pillars when turning. After market spares and accessories are short in supply.

My First Love !! We are still together !!
Nothing fancy but we drive around regional areas and the hills. Very good handling and an "okay" fuel economy. Smooth gear shifts & reliable engine makes you feel more confident, decent AC and stylish/compact interior make it overall value for money. It never disappointed our family of two adults and a kid !!
Comfort. Smooth Gear change. Cruise control. Overall space.
The pram took all the boot space and it is just a normal pram :)

Wonderful Car but...
I loved my car and bought it second hand from a dealer. Being the VRX 05 model it came with a lot of great options and is wonderful to drive and a great car to own. So far have only had it for 20000 klms, bought it when it had 62000 on it. The only cripes I have with this car is the red duco paint on this fades easily and is known on this era model to do so. Mainly the red colour. Fuel economy is shocking for a four cylinder but it has power when you need it and drives well.
reliable, wonderful to drive. Great extras. Cheap enough to keep on the road.
Fuel economy is not great at all. The paint on the red 05 models, unless always garaged fades really quick making trade in time not worth it.

Happy as
Comfortable reliable and to my mind economical. We have been all over Australia towing a van and fuel use ranged between 10 and 13 l/100 km. Naturally this was at modest speeds (90 to 100). Around town we get about 11 l/100 km and on country trips around 9 l/100 km. At 165,000 km it is on its 2nd set of replacement tyres and at 8+ years old it is just as shiny as our new ASX but is better looking. It handles well on or off the bitumen and its performance is sufficient. It uses no oil between services (unlike a VW that I had) and its OE battery lasted 8 years.
Looks, comfort reliability and very good Mitsubishi dealership
Wheels should be bigger, ramp/departure angles too small, higher top gear

High mileage, but going strong.
I know this is a bit late in the day,as there have been two or more updates including three body changes, but I love this car. Brought new in 2004 for my wife, then when I needed a wagon for work brought her a mini, (thats another story) and moved into the outlander, Been driving it every day for work, which takes me up to Brisbane, over to Adelaide then down to Melbourne, currently sitting on 479,000 Kms and it starts every time first time. Ok, It's had two suspensions, they wore out, one pair of drive shafts, (Front) and one tail shaft. All b...Read more
ushing has been changed, they just wore out and two fuel pumps. Gotta say fuel consumption is poor, best 10.8 worst 14.9 per 100kms. but overall comfy. Just for a laugh, took it to my local dealer to update as part exchange and he offered me $600.00!. Just goes to show if you dont drive your car you'll get a better trade in, LoL!. Going to keep it now, till it either dies or fuel supplys finally run out. Comfort Fuel consumption1 comment

Good
Overall very happy. We bought a second hand Queensland Government fleet car, my husband was pretty much the only driver then he bought it at auction. He had no trouble with it while it was a fleet car and we've had no trouble since. It's a comfortably, reliable, roomy car. Not much in the way of beauty - all pretty functional - but fine by me.
Comfort. Smooth gearing up and down. Cruise control. Overall space. I live in a hot climate and love how you can open up the large back door and cool the car down in seconds. So far no R&M issues - had th...Read more

Good
Best car iv'e owned. its simple design and great looks make it a great packedge all round.would reccomend for familes and week enders its a great city car as well.
I love my out-lander. It has stacks of room in the back for the kids. the interior is very modern unlike it's rivals. The hand brake on the floor is such a space saver. Its a great ladies car the doors are light to close and open,Steering is easy and the air-con is great.
it has a poor turning circle and is a little gutless. It could do with a little more storage in the front. And stereo needs an upgrade.

Good
After having this car for a while now I am convinced that in this class and price bracket there is only one competitor and that is the X Trail, these two are ahead of the competition. However the style and finishes with this car is far superior to that of the X Trail and the only place that the X Trail trumps this car is in the Auto 4x4 option.
Overall a fantastic car that I am very happy both on and off road, it is far more capable than it looks when on the dirt tracks and great in town, only downside, it is a bit thirsty
Very Reliable

Bad
Overall I love my car but I just can't afford to be filling up as often as I do. I was going to trade it in (much to my dismay) on the weekend and was disapointed in the resale value. I would like to get something more economical but unfortunately The highest price anyone would give me for my 3 year old car was $13500 which is not enough to even pay out my loan. Not viable to run and not viable to own. I love driving it but I guess I'd better stop loving it so much!
Beautiful to drive and a comfy ride.
Fuel economy is not real flash. The 10.2-10.8 that the dealer sprouted was rubbish - It does more like 13-14/100km. Resale not good either.

My 2004 indicator lights both flash at the same time . They are half as bright on dash, but normal outside. I have removed cluster and checked and cleaned plugs etc with contact cleaner. Local instrument repairer doesn’t think it’s an instrument fault. Anyone had the same?

I have a2003 outlander can you put a 2005 mivec engine in it as l would think that the computer would be different to run the variable valve timing in it and if the computer is different could you use the computer out of the 2005 mivec car or would the wiring loom be totally different and if it is different is it a big job to put the mivec engine wiring loom into the 2003 non mivec car?
