Pajero Sport QE (2015-2020)

Has anyone one had problems with the auto transmission. Mine has played up since day 1. Bought as dealer demo with 1800kms on clock. It seems to slip in 3rd and especially 4th gear in normal auto mode. Plus large clunk in driveline after sitting at the lights for 10-20 seconds, First time it happened I thought someone had bumped into me from behind. Been told that the heavy bump is gearbox still kicking down into 1st gear and is ‘characteristic of the vehicle’, I doubt the MItsubishi engineers designed it that way. The slipping in 4th is getting annoying but Mitsubishi have said they don’t know what it is.

The question of transmission at traffic lights - depending on the length of time you are sitting there the electronic shift the gearing into an equivalent mode of being in neutral even though the actual shift visually doesn’t change from Drive, this is to conserve fuel and stress on the transmission. It does not effect starting off as picks up drive instantly.

Hi Everyone, my wife and I have purchased a 2018 Pajero Sport. Not long after picking up the car I have noticed it takes an unusually long amount of time to start - up to 12 seconds, even if the car is still warm. Is this normal? This seems highly unusual?

I have a 2022 but it starts first thing. Best advice is to pop over to Facebook and get onto the Mitsubishi Pajero sport Australia group and someone there will
Certainly help you out

My 2017 Pajero Sport GLS has never had a problem starting as you have subscribed. I would be contacting your local Mitsubishi dealer and tell them of you problem. From there this problem should be fixed as it is not normal.

Ryan G.
Ryan G.

Should not have that problem. It only happened to me once when I accidentally left the interior rear lights on and it drained the battery. After that I was not able to start the car and have to call service. Check your battery maybe it's somewhat low charge else pop to your Mitsi dealer as that is not normal

Just purchased a Pajero Sport MY16. I find when stopped at a traffic light with my foot on the brake, it feels like the car is shifting a gear after a few seconds while stationary, like a mild judder. Is this normal or is this a transmission problem (See updated comment below Jan 2020)

Have the same issue dealer told me it's been reported by 90% of owners, Mitsubishi are looking into it but appears to be an electronic glitch, I noticed it does not happen if you shift to neutral and back to drive.

Ryan G.

noticed that too on my MY18 PS Exceed when just from a full stop on a traffic light. I didn't mind at first since it's just a mild shrudder. Sometimes it's noticeable but most of the time it isn't. I would not mistake it from SUA though (Sudden Unintended Acceleration) which plaque the Montero Sport or Challenger.

Spoke to a service rep at Chadstone Mitsubishi, as I described the issue to him, he interjected and finished my sentence by saying ... "a jolt!" . He says its normal. Sometimes the vehicle stops in third or 2nd gear and the transmission shifts it to a lower gear after a period of time. Said he has had 3 Pajero's as company cars and they all do it! I hope he is right. I will ask another dealership shortly as the car is due for its next service!

Mine doesnt vibrate at all. Check your tyre pressures and perhaps you may need one or more tyres balanced. I had mine wheel aligned soon after purchase at dealers expense (steering wheel wasnt straight).

Is any one else having issues with the adaptive cruise control? Quite frequently in adaptive cruise when the adaptive part is working keeping you a safe distance from the slower moving vehicle in front, there will be a beep and the adaptive cruise will lose its tracking lock and accelerate. I have captured this on video once when it was happening very frequently. I have taken it back to the dealer twice now, once leaving it with them for a week and they couldn't find any issues. As the adaptive cruise was a major reason why I chose this vehicle, I will be looking to trade soon. My wife's two year older Subaru Outback has adaptive cruise and has been flawless.

No issues mate. You just have to learn howto use the distance setting (one two or three cars). And obviously it's not an artificial intelligence thing so in complicated situations it might miss judge the other cars. But if you are following a car on a straight line and it loses track of it then it's a problem.

Doug M.
Doug M.

Thanks, this was the same advice as Mitsubishi. Unfortunately, yes, it happens when following along in a straight line. I have used other vehicles such as Mercedes Benz and Volvo with no problems. And my Subaru Outback is flawless unless there is heavy rain and then it quits. I wish the Mitsubishi would err to quoting instead of accelerating into the back of a vehicle about a car length ahead.

Hello - have 2022 GLS - the only time my adaptive cruise control flutters is if i pick up a car in the left lane on a dual carriage way and I am too close to the white line, but other than that it works perfectly - I leave a good distance from the car in front to allow plenty of room for the lane switchers and other behaviour. I would never get closer than 4-5 car lengths at 100 kl hr (I dont tailgate) - I tested it down on a car that pulled up and it slowed and then braked the car well before i would have hit it - has worked fine - used one in Europe last year in a VW golf which worked very well and this is just as good or better. On highways and freeways it works very well. no complaints.

Pajero Sport QE (2015-2020)

Driving down the road and put my foot on accelerator and there was no response initially, about three seconds later the engine almost conked out before very slowly and with much spluttering engine reved up to 2500rpm and car accelerated away. It drove normally then for about 5 minutes when it did it again. No lights at all on dash. Ended up getting car towed home. When I drove it to MM it did the same thing again but now MM say they can’t fault the car and cannot find any fault codes when they download the data from ECU. I have checked the fuel and air filters, all good. No fuel contamination. Has anyone had trouble with the transmission control unit in there car? Wondering if the ecu and tcu are not talking properly? Anyone got the same or similar issues? Any help greatly appreciated.

I am new to the Pajero Sport and learning how it operates... I noticed the other day when cruise control is set to a certain speed ( a Red and white circle appears with a speed limit number), and you try and accelerate beyond this speed nothing happens... Is this perhaps what you experienced. I assume this is some kind of governor that prevents you going over the speed-limit. A bit dangerous in my opinion in the event you need power to get away from a dangerous situation

Mike F.
Mike F.

Mark, there is a separate feature (different to normal cruise control) which you can pre set a desired speed - turn it off and problem solved (instruction in book if can’t work out on steering wheel).

Pajero Sport QE (2015-2020)

I have a 2017 Pajero Sport GLS. When I stop at the lights after 10secinds or so there is a Jolt sensation. I took it to Mitsubishi did a road test with a tech and he felt the jolt and said he would look into it. When I returned to pick up the Pajero Sport they claimed they could not find a problem. Months later I still have the issue and will be taking it back to Mitsubishi. I recently read the small print on my last mitsubishi inspection report and they nothed down they could not find a fault. However, they said there was modification being a diff breather....! I bought thr car new for my wife and have never modified the car and dont even know what a diff breather is! Can anyone help me with identifying the jolt and provide advice on how to have the "modification of a Diff breather removed from my cars record with Mitsubishi. I assume Mitsubishi knows what the problem is and made up a story that there is " Diff Breather thingy" attached to the car as to void any warranty claim.....

Hi,
I have the same problem went to Mitsubishi and told me if engine falls for one reason or another the transmission control unit will enter a fail safe mode to prevent the engine from stalling. This fail safe is more evident when engine is in D or R from stationary when the vehicle does not creep or a shock is experienced on take off.
They scanned it and said nothing is wrong with it but we can’t work it out cause something has to be wrong for it to do it.

Mick D.
Mick D.

I am not sure of this in your case but some new cars automatically apply a form of brake when parked at lights so you cant creep into car infront or roll back. It feels weird when disengaging like removing the handbrake when you start to accellerate.

Bee
Bee

It is not a form of brake.. An independant mechanic test drove my car and believes It is an issue with the gearbox or diff.
I have driven many pajero sports at my workplace and none of them have this issue. I have had the car with Mitsubishi for 3 week and they came up with the an excuse as to not fix the problem.. Complaint has been lodged with fair trading as head office will not call me back..

My 2016 Pajero sport is having air conditioning problems. The passenger side blows warm air. I’ve taken it back to the dealer 3 times - 2 times they’ve re-gassed it and put dye in it to look for leaks. Latest visit they said they have no idea what the problem is and they’ll check the Mitsubishi database. That was a week ago...

I was not at all impressed with our Pajero Sport I only bought it to please the wife, performance poor, motor to small didn’t like the 8 speed gearbox. Automatic mirror closing when you turn power off means a problem buying towing mirrors. Both suspension people I went to to upgrade springs etc told me I was wasting my time and money.
I would look at other vehicles for towing your van.

Hi I have a 2016 Pajero Sports Gls only had it four months September 2017; it is a dealer demo with only 190 ks on the clock when purchased. Did recent trip involved using M1. After about an hour driving got a couple of jolts when backing off power and then applying power this happened on and off the whole trip there and back, also when stopping at light or in traffic when stopped for a few seconds can either be a slight jot or quite hard.
Had to the dealers checked over but couldn’t fault, drove out of the yard first set of traffic lights a far jolt next lights not as bad, nothing till the next day the another slight.
Just wondering if anyone else has had this type of experience ?. Ducko45.

Hi Ducko45! Quick question for you. I'm deciding between a Pajero Sport and an MU-X, leaning towards the MUX except that it doesn't have rear anchor points for car seats. You like your MUX much better? Thanks!
